what is going on with the warrior forum?

I have not spent a lot of time on this awesome Warrior Forum Community in the last few months.

But, in the past few days, I have been around here - engaging and stuff - and now I am noticing a lot of spammy threads!

Is this a regular thing with the Warrior Forum now?

what is going on? ...

I love the community here - I have never seen so many spammy threads here before.

I hope they take good care of that!!

Seem WF didn't have a good function to stop spammers

It could happen to more forums but the problem is how to solve and manage them.

It should be abundantly clear that the WF is being mass spammed at the moment and on weekends, the mods are not on duty as regularly as weekdays. It'll take time before someone gets to it.

    • Ahh I see!

Well, as I mentioned, I have not been very active in this forum in the last few months. I got more active just this week.

I see a lot of spam now!

Thank you for your reply! .. I guess the mods need to do something about it, right!

  • The thing that blows my mind about this type of forum spam is that I cannot understand why somebody would take the time and effort to do it.

It cannot work. I mean, even if the subject matter was relevant to the forum I doubt it would work.

Yet, I often think that if it doesn't work, why do people continue to engage in it?

I think it's hilarious when I log onto an IM forum and see these grammatically horrendous threads promoting things like a fortune telling service or a surefire way to become a "chick magnet."

Maybe I'm missing something here but I think this type of forum spamming is probably the most idiotic waste of time there is.

    • You're assuming that a human is spending time to publish each post.

  • We all should come forward to solve this kind of problem. Actually there is no Forum, where there is no SPAM. I know the Warrior Forum's authority is trying to reduce the problem. But it is not possible to vanish these Spam. They are also so clever. The Forum Authority will be able to reduce the problem. Thanks a lot.

    • Huh!?... Speaking of spam....

    • I have NO CLUE what you're talking about....Do YOU?

I've run many forums and there's always ways to decrease SPAM posters....vBulletin is a World Class forum software, and can be configured to restrict posters, block SPAM, along with many other features...

As a professional Network/Security Engineer in Silicon Valley during the Hi-Tech BOOM, I created solutions to BLOCK and Bit Bucket SPAM, SCAMMERS, and HACKERS on a daily basis....

You can "Block" Hacker's/Spammers by Country, IP Address, and by Stateful Inspection Firewalls and IDS's (Intrusion Detection Systems)...

You could also make the FORUM a paid forum, Scammers & Hackers want something for FREE, most will NOT pay to join....

If you wanted to get really anal, there are ways to have Mods approve ALL posts (that's a FT Job, but maybe that's what's needed here)...

Letting the Script Kiddies PLAY here daily is obviously getting to be a real issue....

      Just my .025 cents....

BTW, this post in another thread shows HOW this junk SPAM is affecting Warrior Forum in the eyes of Google:

  • They should hire people to over look the forum on the weekends. They can afford it.

    • Well, yes, I slept in.

I think I give spammers more of a pass on weekends - poor things have to go to "real" jobs during the week and don't have time to play with their bots till the weekend.

  • Not every thread is spammed! LOL it's okay because the helpful and serious thread really still do help out a lot of people - which is what most of us want. And of course most of us want to increase our income here too - but not by using a disrespectful tactic (like spamming).

    • Spam is just part of the internet.

They fire up their bots and target forums for niches.

It's not the warrior forum or the internet. I get junk mail at my home all the time too.

  • Spammers know that even 0.05% open or click on one link that they post, they make money. So this will always be a reality anywhere on the net.

  • I think I know why their are not that if any Mods on weekends!

It cost more in wages on the weekend in Australia I.E. 1x1.5 per hour and Double on Sundays so unless under a contract most IT ( 1st year) workers fall under the Work Place Contract
Hence I get a lot of people in business for our Managed Services program.

  • The recent bot-powered weekend spamming aside, what's interesting (or not) is the OP's observation is identical to points raised in years past.

Just do a search and it seems people seem to raise the same points of things 'not being the same as before.'

Nothing necessarily wrong with the OP's point but it does serve to remind us of one key fact of life:
Change is the only constant in life. Expect it. Embrace it. Be at peace with it.

The bots are sporadic. They come. They get deleted. All the regular day to day spam stays around unless ordinary users report it. The mods don't seem to read the forum and hunt for it. Link droppers are the worst. it is rampant. I can barely open a thread without reporting the link droppers and by then, I've completely lost interest in the topic.

    And then there's always this:

Users from the US have been leaving in droves, while popularity in India has been increasing, hence, a complete culture change, not to mention that many of the posts are barely intelligible with non English speaking posters.

  • Plus one man's rubbish is another's treasure, in that even though its rubbish spam to us, the non committal to clean it up could mean that pumped up figures on a dying forum possibly make it look better in the stats department than reality, lots of posts / people going, so it must be good. not the first time or last time this crap goes on. If it were not for spammers and link baiters some forums would move slower a crawl at best, but then you open this exiting new crap just to read blluisht.

I used to report most of it, but as a mod of a section it does pay to check all new posts or as many as you can to clean it up, but mods just seem not to care now so I suppose a few of us are caring less as well.
  • The Spam Post got beached in Off Topic
like a galleon of bountiful whores
    whose spreadeagled promiscuity
demanded 2 fingers, got all 4s.

C'mon Mods, I am helpin' you out here.

We are so glad u all make this happen but you gotta get wise to the schwangopulse on a weekend.

I wanna be open to the stuff goes on here, not convulsive c/o the indiscriminately propulsive.

Go weild your trapdoorial weapons like OT posters make with the Scrotal & Float yr Boatal...
