Food, Inc. (WARNING: THIS MOVIE WILL MAKE YOU LOSE SERIOUS WEIGHT!)

Also probably 80% of TedTalks and some other more famous ones,
but I attempted to pick some of the great ones that will appeal to a wide audience,
but aren't talked about as much anymore?

Documentaries often tend to lean toward propaganda, which is unfortunate.
While I believe we must most certainly study the mistakes of our past so that we can
avoid them, and become more aware of our current horrible actions so that we can stop
them, in truth my favorite are the ones that ponder human potential and accomplishment.

Watched this one tonight. I went on a Vegan diet last year for a couple weeks to give moral support to my ex gf while she went on a Lupus recovery diet which was vegan. After watching this documentary I just may go back on that diet for good. Very interesting and important documentary!

I find the downside with many documentaries is that they take an hour to impart ten minutes' worth of useful info. But the continuous advances in photography and filming techniques have made for some stunning wildlife docs and of those, anything with David Attenborough's input is usually worth a look.

I like just about every documentary about nature and wildlife. The info is interesting, but the photography/videography is often visually spectacular.

There's a couple of series that run from time to time here that are great...I think one is called Wild Russia and another is North America (narrated by Tom Selleck).

My No. 1 favorite, hands-down is:

The King of Kong - a Fistful of Quarters

Summary: A middle-school science teacher and a hot sauce mogul vie for the Guinness World Record on the arcade classic, Donkey Kong.

Metacritic: 83 (User Score 8.8)

In my opinion, you couldn't script a better plot, characters, or ending.

My second favorite:

Summary: Jerry Weintraub, the producer behind such films as Diner, The Karate Kid, and Ocean's Eleven, is profiled in this documentary supplemented with home videos and stories from various celebrities who have worked with him.

Available on HBO Go.

Jerry Weintraub was a remarkable man, with many fantastically entertaining stories to tell. I can listen to him tell them over and over again.

Glad you liked it! Some great stories in it and that one studio band could really play some great funky music!

Here's one I watched last night. World War 2 from space. Takes you all the way through the war from a unique perspective. I learned a few things too.

  Yeah, they were amazing, but even more amazing was how they would just gel with the artists. So much of that music seemed like it just wrote itself.
  
  I actually met Clarence Carter many years ago. There's a restaurant chain in the Atlanta area that he would frequent (probably still does). He was a guest many times in at least two of the locations I was in. Quiet guy and always very nice. Always smiling.

  I caught the tail end of that a few weeks back, I think on THC. Hope to see the entire thing sometime this week. THC and AHC have been all over the Hitler stuff for the past several weeks, which has been really interesting.

Some of my favorite documentaries are:

Modify
- A documentary about body modifications such as body piercing, tattoos, implants, etc.

Adolf Hitler: The Greatest Story Never Told
- A 2013 documentary about Adolf Hitler's childhood.

Night and Fog
- The history of Nazi Germany's death camps of the Final Solution and the hellish world of dehumanization.

Supersize Me
- An American documentary film examining the influence/effects of the fast food industry. This'll make you rethink on ordering Mc Donald's french fries.

Deep Web
- A feature documentary that explores the rise of a new Internet; decentralized encrypted, dangerous and beyond the law. This documentary is cool and creepy at the same time.
