Sure you didn't see this on NBC news last night? Lester Holt had a good report on it.

I stand corrected - and that one is funny.

The one Lester showed was in Durham, NC. Seems like if they can't raise the height of an old bridge - they could dig out the roadway to create a dip to provide a standard (modern) bridge height.

Or, they could expect anyone possessing a drivers license to read at a 2nd grade level.

      Cheers. - Frank

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

You'd think! In NC reporter said almost all the trucks that hit the bridge are rental trucks and a few campers. I could understand it happening as there are other bridges in the area and if you aren't accustomed to driving a vehicle with height, easy to assume all the bridges will "fit". I doubt the "foot/inch" warning about that bridge makes any sense to someone driving a rental truck.

They almost need a sensor farther back on the highway to trigger a red light warning for tall vehicles....like that would happen. More fun to just watch the videos of them hitting the bridges.

If the trucks are falling into a Dip, it would have to be Hidden Valley

The bridge sign clearly shows 11' 4" with flashing lights which means none of the truck drivers were paying attention to the signs.

Most dry van semi trailers are at least 13ft in height.

No doubt those drivers all have dings on their CSA scores. Good luck keeping a CDL license.

A few years ago I drove under that bridge. Once I got past it I heard a crash and looked back and saw a semi trailer stuck under it.

The truck driver and those other drivers weren't paying attention. I noticed the sign when I approached the bridge.

      Yukon -

Seriously? Surely there are other signs. Would you expect someone driving a truck at 35-40 mph to see that sign in time to think "wait, that's not high enough" and stop???

j/k - I'm sure there are warnings farther back, aren't there? IN the one TL posted the teeth might be a clue....

There's a flashing yellow light, plus being cautious is in the CDL manual. I know, $hit happens, but the flashing yellow light.

My guess is whoever owns that bridge isn't changing the height because they're too busy collecting insurance. It's a railroad bridge so the town probably doesn't own the bridge.

If the town cared they could install one of those max height bars like in fast food drive-thru lanes, that way the driver would hit a cheap height bar that doesn't do any real damage to the truck before even getting to the bridge. Even speed bumps would get a drivers attention.

The video below is the same bridge with a truck caught on a dash cam hitting the bridge. The video quality is bad but the flashing light is still there.

BTW, the speed limit is 25 MPH (slow).

LMAO, the driver just pulls on through after hitting the bridge. That's one tough bridge, it's like a giant can opener.

My ex-brother in law is a long term pro truck driver. He once hit a bridge and
took about two feet of the box truck. Another time he was helping Mom
move and backed into the side of the house.

My hotel parking lot is doable by fairly large trucks. It loops around restaurant next door.
Kay is right about people who are not used to driving larger vehicles. After a guest in a
Uhaul clipped the corner of the restaurant pretty hard, we try hard to discourage
inexperienced drivers from trying to drive through.
