Whats the best place to live out of: Florida, Nevada, Oregon, and California?

I am thinking of moving to the US, I have looked at these options: Florida, California, Nevada and Oregon.

Florida seems a bit too hot, I like the sun but if it's 90 degrees all the time and humid it may get a bit too much. The advantage is the property is quite cheap. There is also bit of a buzz about it because of the tourism which I like and it has the coast which is fun.

California has a great climate sunny but not too hot, a great buzz and many attractions etc and could be ideal. The disadvantage is the price of real estate seems very high.

Nevada has Las Vegas, which is fun, and the real estate is cheap . The disadvantage is the climate might be too hot and there is no coast.

Oregon seems to have a nice climate and is on the West Coast, like California. The the real estate is cheaper and better value than California so it could be a good alternative. However there does not seem to be the buzz and range of attractions that Florida , Nevada and California possess. It appears a bit duller.

What are your experiences ,which would you say is the best place to live in the US ? Have you lived in these states what are your views both positive and negative about them?

Florida is great during the winter months but can be brutal in the summer with the heat and humidity. I can't speak for any of the other states.

One other thing you might want to consider is the state income tax which is on top of federal income tax if you're planning on working here. Florida and Nevada do not have this tax, but California and Oregon do. However, Oregon doesn't have a state sales tax on goods.

Thanks for your reply garovich , certainly state taxes is something I will have consider,as well as health Insurance. I heard there is no state tax in Nevada because of they revenue they get from gambling, which is useful! The humidity in the summer in Florida could be a problem .

I like Las Vegas. My complaint is the heat in the summer. But, the other 6 months, the weather is great.

Even in a bad economy, there's so much opportunity here. And if you're into IM, you aren't dependant on the local economy, so the finacial hard times are actually an asset to those of us that don't "work" here. Rent/housing prices are dropping, the casinos are dropping prices on food, etc. Plus, so many people come to LV that it's a great place to network.

Everything here is so new and modern. LV has the best shopping, golf, restaurants, etc.

But the thing I like most about LV is the 24 hour lifestyle. I don't go out much, but I am a night person. If I'm up at 3 am here, I can look out my window and see plenty of houses/apts with lights on. Other cities, everything goes dark at 10 PM. Here, I'm not a "freak". If you go get something to eat at a coffee shop at 3 am, it's fulll of "normal" people, not drunks and tweakers.

And talk about "buzz"...There's an excitement on the Strip you just won't find any where else...Drive 3/4 of a mile off the Strip, and you're in a town like any other major US city in the SW.

There's plenty of cheap flights to almost anywhere and it's only a 4 hour drive to LA if you want to go to the beach or enjoy S California.

Thanks for that detailed response kurt. Las Vegas is certainly a possibility. Living in London which is also a 24 hour city with plenty of buzz, but one I would suggest a bit more leery, with more drunks around and bit more danger at night than Las Vegas. After London I am a bit wary of moving to very staid, quiet city but want somewhere with some life and Vegas certainly has that.

Another attraction is the large amount of trade exhibitions held there because of the excellent facilities. It is a good business center.

It's interesting what you say about Southern California being a reasonable drive away, four hours is very appealing!

Because of the attractions Las Vegas is also a great place for family an friends to come and visit. The fact that internet marketing can be done from anywhere is something I want to take advantage of and that's why I'm thinking of moving. I know that, that well known blogger Steve Pavlina is also in Las Vegas and he loves it.

I have heard that Henderson which is a short distance from Las Vegas is also a great place to live.

Once again kurt thanks for taking the time to give me your very insightful comments.

I don't know where the best place to live OUT of is - but for my money Oregon is the best place out of that list to live IN. It has many different climates depending on your preferences - you can live in dry climates or in rainforest - mountains, beaches, flatland.
Jobs, of course, aren't any better off than anywhere else, but the people are pretty friendly and eco minded.
For me it's a terrific place because of the rock and gem hunting opportunities.

Like this is a contest. Florida.

No earthquakes, no taxes, you can get pretty much anywhere in the state within 6 hours, 3 sides of water, the keys, weather that has the women in bikinis most of the year i mean come on, do you need any more reason than that?

    You do?

every major pro sports team that you could want, relatively cheap houses, depending on where you are at, outstanding hospitals

    did i mention the bikinis?

bike week, daytona racetrack (nascar) so much history its ridiculous. natural springs you can swim in all year round. If you cant find it in miami, jacksonville. Excellent colleges and

did i mention the hot girls and bikinis?

LOL...Like Vegas doesn't have pretty girls...And you forgot to mention hurricanes, humidity, that you have to speak spanish, and mosquitoes big enough to have sex with a turkey, flat-footed.

So in other words, you're saying every pretty girl in Vegas is a whore. Good one. But I'll bow to your expertise on renting girls.

And I'll admit that I do prefer the desert to the swamp.

No, in YOUR words every pretty girl in vegas is a whore. Reading comprehension is your friend. But on the plus side, with legalized prostitution, you have a better class of hookers out there..so ya got that going for ya.

Not much of a desert person myself. Everyday I pass over the ocean going to work, i'm within walking distance of water. if you're in st. pete, you're always within 15 mins of water any way you go. Vegas just looks like a tourist spot. I cant imagine why anyone would want to live there. That would be like living in disney land

You'd think if reading comprehension is YOUR friend, you'd be better at it. Logic is my friend. Try it some time.

Here is what you said: "Yeah, vegas has plenty of pretty girls. you can rent them by the hour."

This implies LOGICALLY that the pretty girls in Las Vegas are whores. Again, good one. Your attempted insult doesn't change the facts.

And while on the topic of facts. There is NO legalized prostitution in Las Vegas...Clark County to be more exact. And Clark County is bigger than a couple of the smaller US states.

The nearest legal brothel to LV is about a 50 minute drive away.

And like I said in an earlier post, drive 10 minutes off the Strip and LV is like any other city in the SW USA. Not only should you concentrate on comprehension and logic, retention is also your friend.

Done with trading juvenile insults, or do you want to keep going?

I think it all depends on your personality. I used to live in the Bay Area and that's one of my favorite places in the world. It's great if you like not-too-hot-not-too-cold weather. It's perpetually spring there.

Oregon is good if you're more laid back and want a country lifestyle.
