Geeesh ... this looks like a sugar coma waiting to happen and looks pretty disgusting to eat, IMO, but I guess some people would eat this. Would you? See the whole collection at the link below.

New Yorkers are going crazy over these shakes - Business Insider

It seems like too much of that sugar stuff they put on crappy birthday cakes, not sure what it's called.

I like sweet things, but that doesn't look appealing at all.

Looks like a sugar coma waiting to happen - and in the state that tries to ban things like large sodas??? Look like they'd be fun to put together, though.

Give me a plain old chocolate milkshake and I'll be perfectly fine.

Agreed, but with a little bit of peanut butter.

Oh, and chocolate syrup. Some places only put chocolate ice cream in. You need the syrup too.

It was the NYC mayor Bloomberg that tried banning sodas, and I'll let you guess what got the ban hammer when it got to court.

Ah ... ok. Now I remember Bloomberg being involved in this and I think that I remember it was not successful. Gov telling people what and how much to eat and drink (other than alcohol and driving issues) is just way too much gov in our business.

So ... you actually think that thing looks good enough to eat? lol.

    a) "New Yorkers" go bonkers for any thing exclusive and/or in the know. Now that business insider put it out to the masses, the parvenu will descend on the place, keeping them going for a few years, but the "New Yorkers" who blew it ip in the first place are already off to the next exclusive thing.

    b) The whole point is to over pay for some artsy food thing just because you can. Eating it is really secondary. The sell boatloads of "edible arrangements" here... basically melons cut into flowery shapes, skewered, and make into a goofy edible bouquet. Why? because why eat a $2 melon, when you can get gourmet arrangement for $40, that's why. Because I'm rich bi***, that's why. lol

    c) Looks like the dominant flavor is sky blue. I don't know what that even is, so it doesn't really appeal to me.

    d) But a peanut butter banana one is probably pretty good. Once you toss the hard candy and all that moussy stuff on top. At which point why bother.

    e) DQ FTW.

    f) from what I've seen, Business Insider is about the poster child for the "you get what you asked for" end result of the "we don't want mainstream media with all their editors and professional journalists, we want blogs, we want the voice of the common idiots, um, I mean people". Go democracy. yay.

But business insider didn't invent the monstrosities. They only pointed to them, when no one else dared. lol.

They don't have just the blue ... check the link. There's a Christmas one, a Halloween one, a Mets one, a Smores one, a Caramel Apple one, a pink breast cancer awareness one ... and more, all equally crazy looking and way too much of everything.

        f) was "as an aside". these things are all over the internet. Which is to my point that business insider is really just a curator, not a content creator. I have yet to see a single original story show up on business insider.

That this story really is... is right on target for the internet marketing forum. Yet another over priced nyc burger bar figured out how to use instagram and facebook to turn themselves into a tourist must visit. That is the lesson of the day.

*IF* I had a few NYC (or south beach or santa monica) restaurants to run, I would hire some food art pastry chef or find some other weird gimmicky thing, and then I would tell my servers to casually talk to the customers about facebook or instagram... with a $50 bounty to any server who gets an identifiable picture shared with 100 likes.

Big thumbs up to them. To the $15 shakes, not so much. lol

I couldn't eat that if I wanted to. And I don't. Not only because I try to keep to organic health foods as much as possible..........but - that much sugar would make me royally sick to my stomach. A little cake - okay - a shake okay - but add all that other stuff (skip the peanut butter - I'm deadly allergic) would have me praying to the porcelain if I tried to eat it all. I like sweets, but not really, really sweet ones. I'll stick to white cake, sugar cookies, and cheesecake as my main tormentors.

                    • Howdy Suzanne! I shore am proud to be here and see yore smilin face again! We gonna have to go parkin down by the lake and swap some tabbacky again... ceptin, next time why don't you take that dadgum cigar out of yore mouth! I still have burn marks on my nose and cheeks!

Firstmost, I saw in another post you was makin that you had some howdy doody what wanted a refund of one of yore books he got free!!! I gotta tell ya that some folks just don't have a lick of sense! Sorta reminds me of ole Zedekiah!

I saw ole Zed the other day and he was ridin a brand new shiny motorscooter! Of course I asked him where he gots it from. He said, "Well Thad (see, folks call me that cause that's my name) I was walkin down the highway lookin for some vittles for supper and this young, purty gal rode up to me on her motorscooter! Why, next thing you know she had done jumped off that scooter and took off all her clothes until she was as buck nekkid as the day she was first born! She siddled on up to me and she asked me in her deep, husky voice, "Hey big boy, see anythin you be likin? Just feel free to take anythin what you is a wantin!" "So I done what any red-blooded fellar would do... I checked out her clothes and decided that they was too small for me so I took the motorscooter!!! That was probably the same fellar what asked you for a refund!!

By the by, since you is semi-retired (I don't know why you was drivin one a those big trucks anyway) you will have more time to come on down to the holler and sit with ole Thad on the porch! I done got some brand spankin new... ummm, sodie water, that we can sip on!

Well, I guess I had best go on out and slop them hogs! I like to keep them motorscooters Sloppy!

You take care now, you hear?

I'm pretty sure ol' Thad was around long before SPT.

Regarding Sock Puppet Terra, haven't seen her for a while, by the way. It scares me that she's just out there lurking in the shadows.

                        Ha!

Sumtimes, not even the coolest beauty products can stop you passin' for an androgynous mutant.

That is why I always pack a coupla burger buns an' some bottled wasps for makin' my lips all puffy.

It is a hassle tryin' to get noticed that way, but I figure it is infinitely preferable to wheelin' onea Claude's inflatable women out on a skateboard an' makin' with the ventriloquism from behind a wall.

Hmmm -- I am notin' a distinct absence of Whatto also.

Mebbe they are holed up together someplace -- along with alla the old Warriors gone missin' down the years -- huddled close, tryin' not to snigger.

Gonna throw on some infrared snoopo goggles an' check out my local abandoned aircraft hangar.

You know, Whatto and Sock Puppet Terra would make a perfect couple. At the very least, the unity might keep his sheets clean.

My kid's birthday is coming up in a couple weeks, and I thought it'd be fun to spend the day downtown and then cap the day with these crazy shakes.

So I swung by the place yesterday afternoon, just to see what the reservation situation was, and if they could accommodate the 10 of us (in-laws and all).

                          Yeah, right...

That's the line to get into the place - at 5PM on a Monday.

I thought there must be a show or performance going on next door. Nope. Those are all people willing to wait 3+ hours to get into this 20-seat restaurant, so they can get a picture of themselves eating one of those ridiculous shakes.

In NYC, having to wait on line outside a restaurant is a pretty rare thing. Clubs, bars... sure. But restaurants? Pretty rare.

These shakes are a friggin hit. Too bad I'll never know what one actually tastes like.
