I'm Ready for the East Coast Blizzard. Bring it On!

Flashlights .... check
Even one that I can wear around my head like a miner

Dump Truck full of wood for wood stove in driveway .... check
Coleman stove ready to use if necessary .... check
Plenty of food ... check (no potatoes and just half a gallon of milk ... they were already gone at the grocery store when I got there yesterday).

Bathtub full of water... (When we don't have electricity, our well is useless because it has an electric pump, so we can flush toilets and clean stuff with bathtub water).

Many bottles of drinking and cooking water .... check.

So we're good and ready for the East Coast blizzard heading this way and the only thing that can happen that can't be prepared for is one of the many trees around the house can fall on the house and kill us. lol.

.... it has just begun here (the snow, that is).

Monster winter storm bears down on Washington D.C. area

Before the blizzard - wood pile covered with tarps

Why's your wood stove in the driveway?

      Dan you silly boy!

Suzanne - with the exception of the wood, sounds like the hurricane prep I did many times on the coast.

Enjoy the snow and stay warm! Sounds like maybe it's not going to be as bad as predicted yesterday.

It's sounding pretty bad here and the entire DC Metropolitan area right now. This is the nearest (20 minutes away) city that I live by.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Friday, the snowflakes began to come down on Charlottesville. And, according to records, it could be an historic snowfall when it's finally done. The National Weather Service office in Sterling predicts Charlottesville could see anywhere from 19 to 31 inches of snow on Friday and Saturday. The record, kept by the McCormick Observatory, for a major snow event is 24 inches, accumulated over two days in January 1922.

Dan; I'm not completely sure Suzanne meant that her wood stove is in her driveway.

I think she meant that the truck load of wood is in the driveway. That would make more sense.

What I mean is that the truck is in the driveway, and it contains the wood. That's probably the most likely scenario.

I hope ours doesn't turn to freezing rain. I'll take a ton of snow any day over a sheet of ice when trying to get out of here, and the power is much more likely to go off when the ice is all over the trees.

It's a full dump truck full. Normally we have 16 truck loads to get through the winter, but my brother, the person who cuts the wood is very sick, so this was emergency wood to get through the storm and beyond. Probably have to get more in February to make it all the way through.

My niece and sister live in the Stockton area of CA - and they are in a deluge right now. My niece has a lake sitting in the middle of her property. IF it was going to be there in summer, that'd be a nice touch since they don't pay for their own lake. But...........that stuff is just arriving here in Reno over the pass.

I'm so sick of driving on ice this winter I could just scream.

Not always true. Reno is north and these idiots hit each other on clear road. The small storm we had at Christmas (which was actually large 2,000 feet up the pass from us, resulted in a major highway being shut down due to a 20 car pile-up. I thought they were bad in central Oregon - but this place takes the cake for driving-while-stupid.

Well, true to form, my problem child (daughter) along with her daughter had a domestic problem ... I had to go out in this and it was a nightmare on the roads. Kept it in 4 wheel the whole way going 20 mph tops. The roads here have not been cleared until you reach a more major road. Brought them here and now they are here for the duration. I don't even know if I will be able to make it out again any time soon with the accumulations being called for.

Well, since you obviously want to turn a thread about the East Coast blizzard into one that supports your particular brand of politics, misinformation, half-baked theories and conspiracies, leading climatologists say: (I know ... it's just science ... not your cup of tea really)

I asked two of the country’s top climatologists, Michael Mann and Kevin Trenberth, to comment on the role climate change has on this latest superstorm, which is forecast to break records.
Via @pdouglasweather, ocean surf temps of 24.5C (76F!) 150 miles east of Norfolk VA. #FuelForTheFire pic.twitter.com/qldIUx3XC0
              — Michael E. Mann (@MichaelEMann) January 20, 2016
Mann, Director of Penn State’s Earth System Science Center, explained: “There is peer-reviewed science that now suggests that climate change will lead to more of these intense, blizzard-producing nor’easters, for precisely the reason we’re seeing this massive storm — unusually warm Atlantic ocean surface temperatures (temperatures are in the 70s off the coast of Virginia).”
When you mix extra moisture with “a cold Arctic outbreak (something we’ll continue to get even as global warming proceeds),” as Mann points out, “you get huge amounts of energy and moisture, and monster snowfalls, like we’re about to see here.”
              Mann’s bottom line:
While critics like to claim that these massive winter storms are evidence against climate change, they are actually favored by climate change.
Trenberth, former head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, agrees: “At present sea surface temperatures are more the 3F above normal over huge expanses (1000 miles) off the NE coast and water vapor in the atmosphere is about 10 to 15% higher as a result. Up to half of this can be attributed to climate change.”
So Superstorm Snowed-In is able to sweep in vastly more water vapor thanks to human-caused warming.

It's funny that you don't even know what the predictions are for global warming. This is EXACTLY what is being predicted...EXTREMES...hot/cold, wet/dry, more severe tornados, typhoons and hurricanes more often. If you're going to be a denier, at least know what you're denying.

Yeah, I'm sure they did. The carbon tax depends on it. It's okay - people only have 5 minute memories anymore anyhow. It's soooooo hard to look that stuff up, too. Good thing we got that corp'rate media workin' for us.

HEY THOM - you there? What's it doing in NY? They're talking a hella lot of flights canceled. You snowed in? Anyone else here in NY or close?

          Not even one snow flake.
In fact total snow accumulation in the yard for the whole winter so far is less then an inch.
We do have a chance of another rain storm this Tuesday though

Suzanne, have you folks had any Thunder Snow over there in the commonwealth of Virginia?

    We have!!

Thunder Snow is more dangerous than regular snow because it increases the chances of lightning hitting a power transformer or two in the process and knocking out folk's electricity.

Also, the ABC local is doing live broadcasts and one of their reporters was stuck in the snow for a couple of hours - trying to report. They are also actually sitting out there in the snowstorm giving us updates.

    Stay safe!!

We didn't get any thunder snow yet and right now the snow has stopped in Barboursville, but the weather reports call for it to continue on and off all day until this evening.

Did you see the situation in Kentucky? Thousands are stuck on a mountainous highway ... can't move an inch and have been there since 5:30 yesterday. They're trying to get water and food and gas to them.

I'm sure they did, but didn't heed the warnings. Problem is, it started with ice, so on a mountainous road, there's a sheet of ice under all that snow. A reporter is stuck there too and reporting as she sits in her car since yesterday.

I was wrong. It is still coming down hard here. I just couldn't tell whether it was fresh falling snow or blowing snow from all the wind we have here. Here's the wood pile now. By tonight, I wonder if I will be able to find it. lol.

Pretty cold here today too. Only going up to the low 50's.

Not to fear, will be back up closer to 60 tomorrow. And back to 70's by Tuesday.

Not as bad out there as I thought it would be, this morning. It's say an honest 4 to 6 inches with some 1 foot drifts. It stopped snowing a couple of hours, ago. I keep hearing it's going to snow continuously until 6 AM, tomorrow morning The winds are howling, though.

So far Honey has refused to venture outside. I' guess I'll be laying down the tarp for her to go on. :-)

I don't care how much snow we get, as long as the power stays on. I love working at my desk looking out over the snow-covered lake. No radio or TV. Just the sound of the wind. So peaceful.

Yeah ... my dogs are acting like big pussies. They get excited when they see the leash and then go whoa ... I'm not going out there when they see it.

I expected it to look worse, but it's still snowing and not calling for it to quit til 8:00 pm tonight.

This morning, Orlando. Late morning, Indialantic (very windy). Late afternoon, Merritt Island. This evening, back in Orlando.

Avoided all rain today. A bit choppy near the coast, but much more still back in Orlando.

                Moon rise was beautiful actually.

I asked two of the country's top climatologists, Michael Mann and Kevin Trenberth, to comment on the role climate change has on this latest superstorm, which is forecast to break records.
Via @pdouglasweather, ocean surf temps of 24.5C (76F!) 150 miles east of Norfolk VA. #FuelForTheFire pic.twitter.com/qldIUx3XC0
            -- Michael E. Mann (@MichaelEMann) January 20, 2016
Mann, Director of Penn State's Earth System Science Center, explained: "There is peer-reviewed science that now suggests that climate change will lead to more of these intense, blizzard-producing nor'easters, for precisely the reason we're seeing this massive storm -- unusually warm Atlantic ocean surface temperatures (temperatures are in the 70s off the coast of Virginia)."
When you mix extra moisture with "a cold Arctic outbreak (something we'll continue to get even as global warming proceeds)," as Mann points out, "you get huge amounts of energy and moisture, and monster snowfalls, like we're about to see here."
            Mann's bottom line:
While critics like to claim that these massive winter storms are evidence against climate change, they are actually favored by climate change.
Trenberth, former head of the Climate Analysis Section at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, agrees: "At present sea surface temperatures are more the 3F above normal over huge expanses (1000 miles) off the NE coast and water vapor in the atmosphere is about 10 to 15% higher as a result. Up to half of this can be attributed to climate change."
So Superstorm Snowed-In is able to sweep in vastly more water vapor thanks to human-caused warming.

Why Big Blizzards In Winter Don't Disprove Global Warming

Gee l mention palm trees in the Arctic, and this is what l get?

True, my silly ideas about getting electricity from the air, and the other one, is all crap, LOL?

Science,...l am all for it, and unlike some here, l will sway which ever way the intelligent research shows me!

So from what you have said, that means even if we have a mini ice age, the planet will still warm, and we are all headed for global disaster?

Ok, just wanted to get that straight!

PS l know that a lot of celebrates have been keeling over recently, but that shouldn't mean we all go on a troll bender!

This one is interesting. Nobody knows what's going on.

Yesterday, accuweather had it at 8" (for NYC), weather channel at 13" to 20".

This morning around 8am, ABC says there's 3-4" in the city and maybe 6" out at Jericho Long Island, but the storm is just now getting here and will blow all day so expect another 12".

I go out back (in NYC, Queens) around 9am and I have 10" already. If this continues it will be well over 20" by 7-8PM.

Our latest AccuWeater report is calling for 3 to 5 inches. There's barely that on the ground, now. I'm 30 miles from Wildwood and the coastal flooding there is quite extensive.

It's nice to see so many houses on stilts at the Jersey shore. It appears that some folks have learned their lesson after Sandy. I'm wondering if the insurance companies made this a mandatory requirement to rebuild and get insurance going forward.

Any how, it looks like we dodged a bullet in my area. Once, again.

Honey even made it outside to do her duty. :-)

Over the years building codes have evolved to account for the weather disasters that really shouldn't have been surprises. Hurricanes and floods mostly.

Then the federal flood insurance program drove adoption of codes in existing properties. (All flood insurance is now federal, no private insurers cover flood damage, I think they are actually prohibited by regulation).

After a flood claim, the rule is that in order to get flood insurance again, things have to be rebuild to modern codes, one of which is that the main floor has to be above the 100 year flood / storm surge level. And after every claim, they also redraw the 100 year flood maps.

So over time, any house that has been flooded and filed a claim, is either uninsurable, or has been raised / updated to current building codes.

I just measured the snow in our front yard. 7 inches where the snow hasn't blown with 20" snow drifts all around the house and elsewhere.

          Hi Suzanne!
Glad to hear you are prepared! Sorry you had to go out in it, but at least your daughter and granddaughter are safe with you!

Last month, we had 11 days straight of snow! The drifts were at least 3 1/2 foot deep, but the actual snow fall was around 2". So far living here, I have had to deal with 6' of snow, 3' came all at once! That's the day I learned how to drive our tractor! (My husband was out of state!). I plowed all the live long day, while it snowed! I was soaking wet, cold and the Baileys and coffee in my mug was cold...

All that work was to get my husband a clear path down our driveway! It's 2/10'ths of a mile long.. I knew I had it wide enough for our truck... hahhahahaha.. what I didn't expect was the trailer he was pulling had wheel wells.

I really had used up my space between the fences, so the snow was stacked really high! 14+ hours of driving for him to get to here from Eugene OR (should have been 8), and he gets stuck half way down the drive!

Thank goodness for our JD 4120. What a work horse! He pulled with the tractor, I drove the truck/trailer.

We never lost power that storm, but we lose power here every time there is a big wind storm! We did lose power last month with the 11 days of snow. It was just for two days, but having all the right stuff sure makes it easier!

          Stay safe and warm!

That's hilarious story. The unexpected things that can happen when you think you're doing it right.

You sure get a lot of snow there. Glad we don't. Just got an emergency message on my phone from our county saying to stay off the roads. The secondary roads, which are all that we have around here, have not been plowed and there are snow drifts on them and visibility is nothing. I'm taking their advice.

The funnier things were me trying to plow a path to the barn, a path for the horses to get to the fields and plowing my 80 yr. old neighbors place too! I started to get good at it, but at the end of our driveway, out by the street, I was trying to clear a path the snow was really piling up! It was getting heavy and my back tires were starting to spin a little (I didn't have chains on it).

My neighbor heard me yelling at the tractor! (I had my head phones in, listening to music, so I couldn't hear myself! I was probably at least an acre or so away from their house!). Anyhow, my plowing work around the barns quickly turned into an ice rink! I plowed too low! I had to spread horse poo around for the horses to actually be willing to walk on it! Thank goodness my neighbor has things for her shoes, they are called Moose Tracks. So she was safe from the ice!

That year, we still had piles of snow in late June! I think they reported that there was a final count of 8' in some areas!

Our snow now, is nothing! I'm happy to see it! Our creek is running like a river and we have the required snow pack! We had a drought last year!

Glad you seem to be through the worst of it! Keep warm!!!

That's why we call snow storms "heart checks" up here

I'm enjoying the heck out of this storm. Normally I'm getting hammered with a couple of feet of snow while you all get a dusting to nothing.
But then I've got friends out in western NY who would call the storm your getting flurries I was out there one winter and the daily lake effect storm rolled in, dumped 2 ft. of snow in an hour and left.
When I would fish for Steelheads in the Salmon River off lake Ontario storms would come in and be so bad I couldn't see the end of my pole, granted it's a 9 and 1/2 ft long noddle rod.

65 degrees and sunny here today. Tomorrow we will hit 70 degrees and wear shorts

    Unbelievable ....

A Good Samaritan was shot and killed in North Carolina Friday evening after he tried to help a motorist who was stuck in the snow, police said.
The scene unfolded in Catawba County, outside Charlotte, around 5 p.m. when the suspect's car slid off the road and got stuck in snow.
According to the county's sheriff, Coy Reid, some people who were passing by stopped to help the man.
Reid said that the group believed there was something wrong with the man, so they said they were going to call the police.
"He heard them say that," Reid said. "He jumps out of the car with a pistol."
The group then took off running, but the suspect allegedly opened fire.
"He shoots and hits one of them," Reid said, adding that the victim fell to the ground.
After that "he walks over and fires multiple shots into him," Reid added.
The victim was later pronounced dead.

Wow. I'm looking outside (Long Island), and it honestly doesn't look any different than any one of the big snow falls we get each and every year.

But they're shutting down all roads in NYC and Long Island at 2:30pm.

"New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said drivers of non-emergency vehicles would be subject to arrest if they violated the ban."

I guess it's a bigger deal than it looks to me.

I'm looking out my window and realize that yesterday was just a warm up. Today is the real deal. High winds and it's snowing like a bitch right now and has been for hours. The snow is not coming straight down. It's being blown sideways and it's purely white out conditions. I can only imagine what a nightmare it would be to attempt to drive somewhere. It's also accumulating much faster than it did yesterday.

Hooray. It has stopped here and in the almost completely gray sky, there are a couple of small patches of sky with no clouds. Tomorrow is supposed to be 40 degrees and sunny. 9" with 20+" drifts total. Not really too bad.

It's all done, here. Just a lot of blowing. Got about 6", tops with drifts around a foot high. Unfortunately, the street plow left a 3 ft high pile of snow in front of my driveway. Just had a guy dig me out to the street, brush off the car and run cat litter from my front tires to the street. Best $20 I've ever spent. lol

Life should be back to normal in the morning. Not that I'm planning on going anywhere. :-)

just cut through 20" inches with the snow blower, and it's still coming down hard.

I figured I better get the first cut before it's over the top of the blades.

Nonsense! Fourteen years of being pampered and only 72k very easy miles. The only thing I take better care of is my dog. That car has cost me $7 per month in actual repairs since I've owned it and that includes two batteries. I've had to replace the tires twice, which I didn't include in that calculation. They had plenty of tread, but began to dry-rot from old age, not unlike myself.

I love taking care of my vehicles. If there was room, I'd let the Bimmer sleep in the bed with me and the dog.

I grew up kind rough. Fixing cars was not a hobby, it was how you got them home before the state towed them away forever.

The water pump on the side of the road in January, and getting fired from part time job #4 or 5 or 6 or whatever, because I was fixing the car to make it to class the next day rather than whatever they were paying $5/hr for... that one pretty much cured me of the joy of working on cars. I mean, I can do it. But I really just don't want to. I don't even change my own oil. But I did do the brakes on the Ford van. And tracked down and replaced coil packs. And some other crap that I'm repressing the memory of.

I keep the oil changed, keep the PM's up, but don't much enjoy getting dirty any more, now that I don't really have to.

Heck the SL has a white interior. A reminder to myself that I'm a gentleman when I'm in that car.

Yep. She loves the drama of living with someone who continually treats her abusively and couldn't wait to get back. I mentioned "problem child." I only went out Friday night to get my granddaughter out of the situation, since my daughter will only come back again and again. It is really trying to say the least. My local store is open. I'm about to fire up the 4-wheel drive and see if it's actually possible to get out of here. If you don't hear from me today, I'm a popsicle on a rural gravel road in a snowbound truck. lol

You have your emergency supplies with you, right? Don't mess with snow. A cell phone can't save you - a cigarette lighter can. Blankets, water, food, appropriate clothes. Don't leave home without them.

      How deep is it?

You should be able to blast /dig through 12 to 18"... back and forth and pack it down.
Unless you have a hill, then all bets are off. You need a snow blower to cut a path.

Once you're on any kind of a road that's been plowed even once you're good to go.

Glad you mentioned making tracks so snow would melt...my first thought was "man, her daughter must be getting on her nerves if she's willing to drive out in that!"

We didn't get any of this stuff - had a couple inches earlier in the week. I tend to hunker down and enjoy the solitude when I get snowed in but most people I know get an overwhelming urge to "get out for a while".

You nailed it. She's been asking to go home since yesterday even though I told her that I had no idea whether or not I'd be able to make it out.

EDIT: Besides ... I told Frank I couldn't wait to get into 4 wheel drive and blast my way through the snow and I figured he was going to make fun of me and the truck if that didn't occur ... and my first attempt was pretty bad. lol.

Same here Kay. When I plowed I had to be out in it and actually enjoyed it. Now I get what I need before a storm and watch the snow through the window
Unless it's a heavy snow I still shovel my driveway. I figure it's good winter exercise and like I said before a good heart check.

I actually am pretty careful with it Frank.
I don't have a very long driveway but I break it up into small sections when I shovel. If it's a heavy snow my friend plows it for me.

For future reference, park next to the road. Only a few feet to dig out, and you can always hike through the snow if you have to.

In Ohio, I learned (the frikkin hard way! when it took 6 hours to shovel my cars out one time) to park the truck on the hill at the start of the driveway (and the car just in front of it) when a big one was coming. First, it filled up the space with cars rather than with snow. Second, the snow would drift in the road where the plow would get it rather in the driveway "hill cut" where I would end up shoveling a 36" drift every time we got 4" of snow. I just had to dig out a couple feet of "plow pile" and let the snow blow off the truck on the country road.

Yeah, great idea ... this was the hardest snow we've had to get out of. Next time, I will avoid the hill and park at the top of the driveway. The first attempt, I chose the righthand part of the circle driveway. Another mistake. That part has the drifts that are probably 20" deep. The left side wasn't as deep and was the side I got out of.

In the past, we've gotten out fairly easy with an '87 Toyota pickup truck that's still running, but this snow is deeper than our recent past snows and I doubt that truck would have made it out.

Never underestimate sheer determination. With a very little bit of shoveling, I have made it out and made it back in ....

This is the half mile unplowed part of the road I had to get out. The other 1/2 mile was plowed by farmers.

Above is our actual driveway ... looks more like a driveway without all that white shit on it. It was the worst part to get out of.

... and here is the truck parked on the cattle guard at the beginning of our driveway after returning from my adventure.

The main reason I wanted to get out was to take my daughter and granddaughter home (1) and (2) make tracks early enough in the day to facilitate melting. Once I make tracks, mother nature does the rest and the snow melts down to the ground in the tracks quickly.

Yes, l agree l am making a joke and taking a stab at one group.

But unless jokes are forbidden, it shouldn't matter?

But maybe snow has an ugly side affect on people, don't know only briefly been in the stuff a few times.

And for the record l do believe in Global warming, l also believe in cooling, since the Earth has been doing it for billions of years.

Do l believe in us causing most of the Earths extreme weather, no!

As l said before it depends on the science and whether it holds up or not?

You just proved you don't have a clue what is really being predicted. That's part of what is being predicted. Some places will be cooler, with the globe over all will be warmer.
Haven't a clue, l read through enough of Myobb, pages of text to know, how it is supposed to work!

In the middle ages it was hotter than it is now, and lasted almost 1000 years, so l suppose we should try to find Palm trees in Antarctica now?

You also need to learn the difference between weather and climate.
Climate, so from what you and others have said, that should mean that by 2100, parts of the US, will have mini ice age type winters, while Australia and other countries will have record dry spells, or record droughts?

Well we have had an almost 10 year drought while the US, has had Niagra Falls freeze over, type winters, so that part has some truth to it.

But am l seeing worse or hotter summers every year in Australia, no, if anything l am seeing shorter summers and longer winters, last one in 2015, was a long and unpleasant winter. At least in my state it was.

Hot summers don't prove global warming either. People want to think that MOST climatologists say it's warming - they aren't. Only gov funded climatologists say it's warming. Paleo-geologists say it's not warming, too. Think about it - why did they change the term from "warming" to "climate change"? The climate is changing. But - it's going to get colder. Think about it -- all the snow, california is in a deluge right now -- it's getting wet. Ice ages are wet. Warming (and desertification) is dry. The reason glaciers are losing snow is not from heat -- it's because the trees under them have been cut and there's not enough moisture to replenish snow. That's desertification.

And - the last time the gov and the NASA sub-corporation put out graphs and "satellite pics" they got caught with their pants down. I just go read what the actual majority of non-gov funded climatologists and paleo-geologists have to say about it. I've put the link up several times, but seems people in here want to watch the news on TV instead of actually digging into what scientists are saying themselves.

It is correct, that weather conditions don't prove global warming. But it does fit the models and predictions. If you can't admit this, then there's no point it discussing it.

You do know that the vast majority of climatologists that believe in global warming in the World aren't from the US, right? And you do realize that vast majority of deniers are conspiracy theorists?

I'll tell you exactly why the changed the term. It's because people like you simply can't understand that Global Warming doesn't mean that it will always be warmer all the time. Warming means more energy, which means more extreme weather.

It can also be a matter of shifting weather patters and things like jet streams. An example is when the super storm from a year or to ago that product the massive typhoon in W Pacific that moved into the Bering Sea and forced the Jet Stream to shift. This actually caused Alaska to be a few degrees warmer than Florida for a couple of days.

But - it's going to get colder. Think about it -- all the snow, california is in a deluge right now -- it's getting wet. Ice ages are wet. Warming (and desertification) is dry. How come you left out the worst drought in California history that just ended? You know where there was no snow pack in the Sierra's which is where Donner Pass is? Not only that, you cherry picked one small area of the planet?

And can you help me out here? How does "desertification" affect the Artic and Antarctica? You do realize that neither had trees and Antarctica is one of the biggest deserts in the World.

When I was younger, there would be 20-25 feet of snow on Trail Ridge Road in SUMMER. The last two times I've been over in the summer, there were only small patches of snow summer...of course it's closed in the winter. But there's been no "desertification" there, as it's above timber line, just tundra and rocks, so there where never any trees to cut.

Who needs intellectual integrity as long as we have home-schooled know-nuthins' about to be unleashed on our society.

For all the deniers in my life I have one question I ask them which generally results in a Ralph Kramden 'humminna-humminna.'

Where have the glaciers gone that used to be in Glacier National Park?

        Humminna-humminna!!!

And - the last time the gov and the NASA sub-corporation put out graphs and "satellite pics" they got caught with their pants down. I just go read what the actual majority of non-gov funded climatologists and paleo-geologists have to say about it. Jesus, Kurt. There's nothing wrong with either pole area. Get with the program. There's more ice on both than in the last 20 years. I'm sorry - your grip on technological science is pretty strong, but natural science, not so much. Do you understand how the taxes collected for "warming" are going to be distributed? Did you know that Russia is laughing - that's where Siberia is, and THAT is not in trouble, nor are the Himalayas -- unless the scientists actually ON the Himalayas are the liars. India almost walked out of the talks because of faked IPPC data. Yeah - I follow it a lot closer than watching a tv show.

Desertification has a lot to do with areas of no snow and what seems to be "warming". Don't have to believe me -- go to one of the authority sites on desertification - maybe a college site and read about it. If you can't figure it out, it's a long and lengthy issue to study so I'm not going to sit here and explain it. okay. Read some solar science - that's kind of an issue, too. Got inconvenient for "warmers" when sun cycle 24 wasn't as strong as they had expected. Then go learn something about paleo-geology. They know a lot about past conditions that just didn't seem to be reported accurately by your favorite climatologists.

Like I said when you decided you had to argue it down. "Deniers" aren't f***ing deniers - they are in the school that says it's getting colder. Now why wouldn't our world govs want us to know that? Panick maybe. Know what happens to 2/3 of the population if we go into another ice age?

BTW - go look for the REAL 2015 satellite pics.

I'm not going to argue this any further in this forum. As I said - 7 years. Just 7 years and you won't be hinting about me being a conspiracy nutcase. I'm getting royally tired of hearing that from people on this forum whose ideas of earth sciences are what they saw on TV or know of the "official statement". I gave a link if anyone who wants to call names wants to hear enough of the other side to make a real decision that wasn't spoon fed. ICECAP.

Just because you can growl louder and can be aggressive about the subject -- doesn't mean you know squat about whats coming out of your mouth. You call me a conspiracy nut when I've got thousands of scientists on my side, despite them not being on TV...........and I'm gonna call you an undereducated drooling useful idiot. I'm that sick of that shyte -- so there it is buddy.

        7 years.

Sorry everyone - but I put a lot of study into earth sciences. I know I'm not in the "official" school of thought - but in science there is usually more than one school of thought and that does not make me a "conspiracy theorist" and I'm getting real sick of people throwing that word around just to quiet the dissenters. It's the first clue they don't know what they're talking about. Can't do anything but repeat what was in the news. I tried to "agree to disagree - what it got me is an attack on my mental facilities -- something that never happens when I talk to actual experts in these fields, but is becoming regular fare in a forum where some of the most aggressive attacks don't come from people qualified to attack anyone on the subject.

I'm out of here. That was just too f***ing jive.

Bull I know far more about natural science than you do. Nice try.

Do you understand how the taxes collected for "warming" are going to be distributed? Did you know that Russia is laughing - that's where Siberia is, and THAT is not in trouble, nor are the Himalayas -- unless the scientists actually ON the Himalayas are the liars..

Actually, Siberia is in trouble, at least in one aspect. Buildings in Siberia are collapsing because they were using the permafrost as foundations. And the permafrost is melting. And your boy Putin runs the country that will benefit most. The US, Canada and Russia have been having talks over who owns what when it's exposed as the ice melts. This will open the Northern Passage, and will need ports. A northern passage will require lots of ports and will bring cash cows to whoever owns them, since virtually all shipping from Europe to Asia will no longer need to go through the Panama Canal.

Also, as the Planet warms, our farm land will become semi-arid and the
bread belt will move farther north, melting the perma frost in Canada and Siberia and making them and making them farmland.

Follow the money and were does it take you? Big oil and Russia. No wonder Putin is laughing, he's laughing all the way to the bank. I know you're Russian but this is ridiculous.

India almost walked out of the talks because of faked IPPC data. Yeah - I follow it a lot closer than watching a tv show. .

You mean when there London office had their email hacked? Two points of interest about that. 1 It was found they did nothing wrong. 2. The hack in came from Russia....what a coincidence huh?

PS. Even 7 former US generals and admirals, you know those super liberal tree huggers, said in 2007(?) believe global warming is a security issue due to extreme droughts and then extreme floods will cause issues with people becoming refugees, exactly what is happening now with Syrians. Many Syrian farmers have been unable to farm.

Let me teach you a little about solar science so you understand what you are talking about. Here's how you (should) know about it...If it had anything to do with what our Sun does, then it's logical to assume that the temps would be rising during the day time and during summer. However, just the opposite is happening that it's the it's night time and winter temps that have been rising the most, which is consistent with rises in CO2.

They know a lot about past conditions that just didn't seem to be reported accurately by your favorite climatologists. Like I said when you decided you had to argue it down. I do find it funny I'm only arguing. I thought it took two to argue?

And this is exactly why you are a conspiracy theorist. You feel every one is lying and out to get you, and that it's impossible for them just to be wrong, let alone that you are wrong.

Don't forget, warming/cooling isn't the only issue. CO2 is a serious health issue. And we can tell man made CO2 from natural CO2 on the molecular level I know you feel entitled to poison my air for free, but I disagree and if you put CO2 you should take responsibility for it. I don't care who gets the money as along as you pay your share of poisoning my air..

Don't worry what you call me, there's no one's opinion I respect less. But could you get a little creative? You being a self-proclaimed genius should able to come up with something else other "drooling"? And the more you don't like, bet on me doing more of it. Yes Sal, it seems that l have to get some into a half nelson to have them say that l got the Tesla, circuit right!

And going off the deep end with personal attacks and bullying, (three against one) when someone makes a joke about this or voices an opinion.

This certainly puts Claude on a pedestal, at least he has enough strength of character to admit when he got something wrong!

Yes, bullying, if they all band together then they can drive away what is left of the intellectuals and all bask in the sunshine of self denial.

Years ago if this came up when there would be several for MMGW and just as many against it.

But now, there is hardly anyone that will go against the herd, which usually means 3 or 4 against one or two!

But we all know that the herd is 100% right, all of the time, LOL!

Yes Sal, this forum has reached bottom of the barrel levels, and whoever yells loudest wins, or that is what they like to think. But hard evidence always wins in the end, and no amount of verbal bullying or attacks will change that!

Neither of you should have any interest in this thread since neither of you are affected by the East Coast of the US Blizzard and neither of you seem to realize how boring and tiresome your single-minded obsessions are.

Ok, l make a joke about MMGW being both, (cold and hot) and you go on a bender and say that all of my theories are BS!

Seems like a balanced and well thought through comeback to me!

Ok, for the record l am sorry about the joke, it was meant to be a joke, but for someone like yourself that believes most of the human race will be gone by 2100, l suppose that it can be seen as black humor?

I don't believe in that scenario, so l could see it in a lighter tone!

I won't refer to the dogs reference, but it isn't helping.

And l can also see from the images that the blizzard is a serious pain in the a***. As l said before only lived in the snow for a few days, and the skiing was fun, but getting up to Mount Baw Baw, with the sleet, etc was a nightmare.

Might have been better to say that things suck for you at the moment, and l don't need silly jokes, than to go down the personal attack route!

Wacko conspiracy theorys, if you and others don't believe in new age stuff it might seem that way, but for others not really.

Some theory's do have 100% proof thought, (l won't mention it again, but will put up the link if needed).

If you find it boring, then fair enough, just don't click on the post. But if l find something that adversely affects a lot of people, then l will post it!

Nearly every thread, l haven't posted MMGW jokes anywhere else than here, this year!

And as for the bullying part, me against three, (or 4 if someone else was here) personally attacking me, well, l consider that bullying.

If 3 members here personally attacked you because you made a joke then how would you feel?

Yes, blah, blah, l put up a new post eventually that confirms that l was was right again about something else the mass media keep quiet about.

But you don't want to know about it, fair enough, just don't get involved in the discussion?

I am not forcing anyone to adopt it, just to realize that not all theory's are nonsense!

Actually, no life does not suck and I never said it sucked. I've lived through snowy winters all of my life and I enjoy the snow, and as you can see from the after the blizzard pics, many people freaking love the snow. No school, no work, go out and play in it. By the time they get back to work, the roads will be clear. It's really a win win for many people, and it's quite beautiful.

To see some of our nation's most famous landmarks being "played upon" is a beautiful sight. I've spent many hours in Washington DC, since it's just a hop, skip and a jump from here and I can assure you that I love seeing people sled down the Lincoln Memorial steps. The only real pain in the ass is if you're the type A kind of individual who feels that you must be somewhere during the blizzard, you aren't going to make your appointment, and if you don't prepare ahead of time, life may get a bit uncomfortable for a few days.

The snow plowing guys get major overtime pay and most don't complain about that. Doctors and nurses have 4-wheel vehicles or friends with it to get to work. Here in VA, we have 50,000 miles of primary highways and the day after the blizzard, they were all cleared. The secondary ones are being worked on as we speak. Life is quickly back to normal.

A small handful of people will die in auto crashes when they were warned to stay off the highways. A small handful will die of heart attacks from over exertion while shoveling. People are warned about that also. Personally, I will let the sun do most of the work here in clearing snow.

The point is that I created this thread and I don't post controversial whacko bait threads because I don't enjoy the conversations. I didn't "click" on it ... I created this and let it be known the topic a couple of times, to no avail to the selfish couple of people who want to crap up every thread here with their conspiracy theories. It is a rarity when I post in any thread that you created. Since the East Coast does not apply to you, it would have been nice if you had just ignored mine.

The higher the piled up snow, the better you could avoid getting hit by random snowballs thrown at you by the other kids walking home the same way from across the street.

I remember our walkways in Baltimore when I was a kid being exactly like that and getting bombarded with snowballs constantly .... lol.

My son built this igloo yesterday.

Haha free snow forts. I remember building the walls and hiding behind them to throw snowballs. Of course our "walls" sure must have been really sad if I saw them now.

one year we dug into and hollowed out the middle of a snow pile and made an "igloo". Again, it seemed a really cool deal at the time, but was probably almost big enough for a chihuahua. lol

Ah to be a kid again, to work all day on something and not even care that it's gone tomorrow because you've already lost interest and SQUIRREL!

We used to drive down to Florida for Easter break every year.

I just remember there would be this kind of snow when leaving and we'd drive through PA and still snow and it was always wondrous when we got to Florida and could put on a pair of shorts.

Then coming back we were scrambling into the trunk again to find the winter coats and it was back to snow again.

Moving down just 4 hours away and toward the coast I realized how much less snow there was. And then the past few years on Nantucket in the beginning we had almost no snow in the winter. Of course that started to change and snow started happening in the past 3 along with those really bad storms we were having. Felt like it was taking forever again last year for the snow to completely melt off for spring.

This morning it's cool outside, but I'm sitting on the screened in porch and it's nice to see none of it. The pictures are enough for me to relive those memories without having to pull out a snow shovel.

I felt left out last week. The dogs were having a blast playing in about 2 inches of snow....looked like fun.

So I tugged on the jacket and gloves and went out to play with them. Doing fine until I threw a (soft) snowball at my dog...it hurt her feelings and she went to the door and wanted to go in.

She gave me that "I can't believe you did that to me" look ...geesh.

Kay, that cracked me up! My doggies are like that as well! They look at me like I just assaulted them! Funny, because I can't tell you the number of times that they have "dumped" me in the snow, running around like a bunch of lunatics!

I have a rescue mare, she's older, cranky and someone, somewhere, did something unspeakable to her, they broke her heart. It's taken us over 2 years to finally get her to trust us. Soooo..... the other day I I thought I would throw a snowball at her!

Hit her right in the rear! (Soft one!)... OMG! She took off running, bucking and kicking like someone put a lit match, you know where! She came back around to me, snorted and gave me her head! So sweet!

Well, it's not the East coast - but this is the beginning of the storm at 7,200 feet that ended up closing Donner Pass Christmas eve and kept me from going to my family's in California for Christmas. This is the good route out there.

Beautiful mountain when you don't have to drive in that crap:

Okay - one last word about warming/cooling that I learned in astronomy (yeah, we studied some climatology of the planets too). Until a certain point, you can't tell whether things are warming or cooling. I've looked at all the data - both the fraudulent and real. There will be no way right now to convince anyone who believes the "official" story that we're coming out of the interglacial period. So - I am just agreeing to disagree, with a note that I reserve the right to come back with an "I told you so" in 7 years from now. Just 7 years. Trust me on that one.

    Sorry SB...back on topic.

I think an underrated winter survival item is having a lot of candles, especially in the car. You may not always be able to run the car and if you do, you may need to get out and keep the snow clear of the tail pipe.

If you burn candles, be sure to keep the window slight open to keep oxygen in the car. Also, use one of those sun reflectors to reflect the heat back at you.

Have a couple of good wool blankets. Wool is one of the few materials that will still keep you warm when wet. If you have to get out to travel you can use as a poncho for an extra layer of warmth. Cotton is a death sentence.

If you get stuck, you can place a floor mat under your tire(s). I've had to do this a couple of times.

    @ Suzanne!

Those pictures in ... hang on... Leesburg! The snow wall of silence!

I loved the pictures of everyone having fun with it! I have a huge hill out back of our property. Every year I swear I'm going to go and get an inner tube or disc. I never do. At the bottom of the hill is a creek. One never really knows if it's actually frozen enough to "land" on it or ... NOT! Then, there's the walking back up the hill thing!

I've been trying to convince my husband to buy a wench for the truck.. so I can just be pulled back up... he says he already has a "wench for the truck".. one day, I'm gonna push him down the hill! AND throw snowballs at him on his way down! Stinker!
