These senators want to temper internet speed in certain areas.

Six Ignorant Senators Want To Slow Down High-Speed Internet

Ridiculous. Meanwhile, other countries are racing ahead. China and Europe are talking about creating one super-high speed network from Rotterdam to Beijing, and we are sitting at less than 25mbps. It's not 1985 anymore, and the US will get dusted if we don't ramp up our technology grid.

OK, this is IDIOTIC! I saw a family suing the FCC because THEY supposedly were supposed to handle things like registering PHONES. *******WRONG*******! The FCCs job is to ASSIGN frequencies, LIMIT USE to licensed entities, and prosecute those that violate that. SO, in that article speaking of how a couple was suing? The FCC job was to ASIGN a frequency for the cell phones, KEEP IT CLEAR, and that is pretty much IT. It is NOT to track phones, or protect anything on, or having to do with them!

    HERE, they said:
The senators point this out, because “we would remind you that the FCC is tasked with implementing policies and procedures that advance universal service—ensuring all Americans have access to comparable service at comparable rates.”
WRONG!!!!!! They are NOT to institute policies and procedures to advance universal service. That was NEVER in their mission statement, and practically NOBODY has the same service. BESIDES, they do NOT deal with phones, or content over a private connection.

BESIDES! I don't care WHO actually said it, the statement that you don't bring people up by keeping others down is TRUE!!!!!!!

To all those of the X persuasion, read this and learn it:

    * You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
    * You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
    * You cannot help little men by tearing down big men.
    * You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
    * You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
    * You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
    * You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
    * You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn.
    * You cannot build character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence.
    * You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for themselves.
BTW if they are SOOOOOO poor, WHY are they streaming videos, etc? But they aren't denying anyone anything. They apparently just don't want the FCC to embezzle money on the pretense of pushing an agenda. As for rural areas having slow service, I was here for over 10 years before I could get fast service to my home. Such things are ESPECIALLY true of new or lowly populated areas, or POOR areas. You have to have a lot of switches close to the area, and that can take a while. In POORER areas, they may not have enough trunk bandwidth or the switches may just be OLD.

Some people seem to think the latest phone will give you the BEST service, etc.... And if you buy it for $.01, it cost $.01. WRONG! It can't call anyone anywhere. To do that costs BILLIONS of dollars! And a LOT of that is SHARED! If the part closest to you is older, or low quality, you may get worse service than your neighbor. And that is WITHOUT throttling that companies do to keep enough bandwidth for disasters and keeping their more profitable customers happy.

I don't get the article rant.

The bottom of the Scribd document right above the signatures reads like those senators are asking why there's two definitions of broadband (urban vs rural).

I scanned the letter and what ***I*** saw was they said that MOST people that can order 25Mbps choose NOT TO! It FURTHER said that raising the definition to 25/3 will cause it to potentially become the BASE, that will encourage some to NOT OFFER IT! If a store has 3 nice new pies, offering them to people at $.10 really benefits NOBODY! The store may cease making the pies, and nearly nobody would get one. It really isn't much different. It ALSO spoke of how the FCC fought to get control over non dialup internet. That is DUMB. Frankly, they have NO right! The federal government is trying to get its hand into EVERYTHING! I wonder when they are going to regulate how we take showers, etc... I could just see a "federal agency of right shoulder cleaning"!

Heck, it would cost TRILLIONS to allow all the phone companies to provide full service! We would have to rip up all the streets, etc.... It could take THOUSANDS of acres of land, peoples properties would get smaller, etc... People would have a FAR harder time doing things, etc....

NO, TODAY it is done through an ILEC/CLEC relationship. We do the same thing with the internet(Who here has a 0 hop connection to amazon?), roads(Look at the freeways, etc...), cable companies(What choices do YOU have?), airlines(Ever see a screen at an airport? A flight may have over a dozen numbers), TRAINS(How many tracks do they have?), etc.... So how can an outsider, which the government always MUST be, fairly regulate, etc.... HECK, I had a problem today with frontier. Do you know what company was apparently responsible? VERIZON! GIVE ME A BREAK!
