Grow Up!

This [ YOU ] crap is not only old but annoying.

I have no idea if somebody actually needs my help, wants my attention or
has a comment to make about something I did or said so I am ignoring
any thread with my name in it.

We are not 2 year olds here. We are adults.

Let's start acting like adults.

End Rant.

    Come'on Steve - it's Allen's new toy.

We are not 2 year olds here. We are adults.
Are you sure about that?

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

Funny - the threads are not showing as intended - just makes a bunch of people jumping on this bandwagon look kind of silly!

This feature was cute for the first few minutes, but now it's kinda creepy and distracting.

Is there a way for each member to disable it if they don't want to participate?

That way the people who want to see thier names all over can and those who don't want to see thier names all over don't have to and no one will b e annoyed.

    Just a thought.

Another thought - Steven you have almost 13,000 posts - your name IS all over the forum already.

Kay, I'm done commenting on this subject. I've been politely warned to
back off and that's what I'm going to do.

I'll just ignore any threads with my name in the title.

It will actually make finding the ones I want to read a lot easier as they
        will eventually stand out more.

It will die down soon enough. I equate it with the switch over to the new forum, it's like a new toy: you want to play with it for a while, but then it starts collecting dust.

    No big deal.

For the record, I tested it in my sig and the sign ups DECREASED. Granted, it was a small test run, but it may not be as effective as everyone assumes.

    All the best,

  • Likewise, I can see the appeal, but I'd personally love a setting option somewhere for individuals to turn this off. Especially in the WSO Forum, where with a long username like mine, it just makes the scan page unreadable.

Alternatively, how about making this an 'upgraded' feature in the paid promotional forums, so that anyone wanting to use this tag has to pay an additional fee on top of the standard listing fee? This would make the feature more special and would stop the forum being overrun.

    Thanks Steve,

    Someone needed to say it.

Kind of entertaining at first, but it got really annoying 30 seconds later.

Unfortunately, I am in a very silent minority on this one and have pretty
much been told to get a life and a sense of humor.

Looks like I'll be spending even more time in the recording studio in the
      coming days.

It'll go away pretty soon. Everyone wants to try it. I am also testing in in my Sig but feel with all the other posts going on right now it's not going to be effective. Oh well, at least we got some new entertainment for a little while. Allen will probably shut it off other than for specific uses after everyone gets the drift of the joke.

Yea, he'll probably do a word-replace like he did with Goober and Blue Fart and then our posts will have something like "Pink Puke" in them.

There is some new trick with forum code -

If you are logged in and you type You with [] brackets around it, everybody sees their own name.

Would be a clever way to do 'predefined values' like for emails where [[firstname]] might populate that field with a first name as in Dear Jack, Jill, Bill or Heather.

So everybody has driven it in to the ground in under 24 hours (that I was aware) of

Have you not seen 'Jack you have won a million dollars', or 'Jack you are the Number One Internet Marketer'? Did you think they were serious?

    LOL. [You]

No Gareth - It's been turned off. It caused a lot of trouble at the help desk.

LMAO - I just put in a note to support myself. It seems that a member that was going to do an article for me has my pm's blocked now. He seems to think that I had something to do with his name being trashed and in the forum so much. We had a discussion going on about something that I had asked the ethics of and he had explained it out to me and I was satified with his answers and all was kewl -- but obviously, when he saw his name all over, he figured that I wasn't too kewl with it all. I don't think Jared's ------YEAH [YOU JARED] post that [you] sucks did much good. If you didn't understand the joke or know about it and come into a forum and see your name being trashed it could be intimidating, eh?

Well - I lost a business contact over it, at least temporarily. I have to think of a different article and get it written on top of all the other ones I had to research and write for this newsletter.

But I still can't help but LMAO every time I think back about it. Hahahahahahaha.
I haven't seen a prank go over like that in years. Good one, Allen.
