Wanted to ask if any fellow Warriors know of a good trusted website where you can adopt puppies.

petfinder.com is my favorite. It will give results close to you from all the shelters that participate near you.

Our family dog has lost the battle with cancer, right now there is a huge void hoping we can add a new family member and save a life by adopting a puppy Akita. My son has taken the loss the hardest.

Sorry to hear that. I lost my basset hound and adopted a coon hound that I found on petfinder. It may be difficult to find an Akita puppy there. Might be less difficult to find an older Akita. Don't know. Haven't looked for that breed. If an Akita puppy is what you are set on, you might have to buy one from a breeder.

Just looked for akitas in my area shelters. There were adult Akitas available at an Akita Rescue Organization, so just Google Akita Rescue Organization your city your state, but bear in mind that most people give up adult animals.

FedEx doesn't take animals. The airlines and USPS, however, do, as I sent and received quite a few in my time.

        Here's a link to BigEastAkitaRescue -

        welcome

Seems to be close to you.

My own advice is to go to your local animal shelter or pet rescue organiation and find a dog that appeals to you. Sometimes searching for a particular breed is trying to replace a lost pet - and you can't replace one....only fall in love with another dog.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

It's like those people that adopt 3rd world kids when their own county has kids living on the streets.

I have purchased dogs, cats and chickens that were shipped via airline because I was looking for a specific breed unavailable where I lived.

I bought my basset hound from Alabama, and long ago I bought Persian cats from out of state. More recently, when I was breeding heritage chickens, I purchased numerous chickens from breeders out of my state. In Spring, day old chicks are shipped very frequently. They don't require food or water for 3 days after hatching because they absorb the yolk before hatching. I received adult chickens from California that took only one day to get here. The PO handles livestock with a great deal more care than they do the regular mail.

Well, at least roosters crowing. Cats and dogs go via airline. Costs a bit over $200 to ship them depending on distance.

I did pick up a rooster from the PO and could hear it crowing from outside, and when I've had orders of 50 or so chicks, you can hear them all peeping in unison when you enter the PO. Probably a phenomena that city slickers don't get to experience. lol.

I don't buy from breeders - there are too many purebred dogs that needs homes.

There are many Akita breeders in New Jersey(google search) - you'll need to check references and inspect their facilities if you want a healthy animal with a good disposition. Best to stick with a breeder who has the parents of the pup on the premises so you know the temperament the puppy came from and that you aren't buying from a puppy mill.
