I never heard of Nik, but after visiting the site, my first question was, "I've got PhotoShop. Do I need this?"

Found this about 20 seconds into my research, and although dated, it's good enough answer for me.

I think once my CS6 becomes obsolete, this Nik might be a good alternative to going the expensive, monthly subscription route.

Cool, but check the comments in the article. Some people think Nik is going to be set out to pasture by G without any updates.

I've been using Nik Color Efex Pro with Photoshop for more than a decade and it's one of my go to Photoshop plugins. Nik stuff is great and this is more than an excellent giveaway!

For those that do not know...this is not a complete photo editing suite, it's a set of Photoshop plugins to enhance your editing and creative ability. While some of the tools can be run standalone, they are not going to replace Photoshop.

Here is what you get loaded into Photoshop...this collection of Nik tools used to sell legitimately for hundreds of dollars. Nik built some very good tools when they built these. The Nik collection I was using previously was Color Efex Pro 3.0 and I would have had the rest of these tools if they were a bit less expensive several years ago.

I am loving the upgrade to CEP 4.0 and the addition of the full suite of Nik tools. Below is a screenshot of all of the tools in Photoshop (Filters) after installation.

This is a screenshot of the filters included in CEP 4.0

Install went great. I don't know how I forgot about this but I am glad to have it now.

San Diego, CA - April 28, 2011 - Nik Software has been recognized with the prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) Award in the Photo Software category. During this year's global General Assembly, 29 TIPA editors from imaging publications worldwide voted Nik Software's Complete Collection as the Best Photo Software for 2011. The Nik Software Complete Collection is a suite of all Nik Software plug-ins for Adobe® Photoshop®, Lightroom®, and Apple® Aperture®, including the latest versions of Color Efex Pro™, Silver Efex Pro™, HDR Efex Pro™, Viveza®, Sharpener Pro™ and Dfine®. TIPA emphasized the recent development of Nik Software's unique High Dynamic Range imaging software (HDR Efex Pro) and black and white conversion software (Silver Efex Pro 2).
This is award winning software and it's still quite valuable for those editing images today.

    Cheers
