Dumb question:

Sometimes I have to use Bing due to some computer issues, and the results for the same query are always very different from G. After all this time, shouldn't most search engines be able to replicate G's search methods fairly closely? Of course they have proprietary techniques, but are they really that unique?

If you go back in time 10 years with Google the search results will be the same as what you see today on Bing.

True, I had a site that stayed on page one of Bing (and Yahoo, that uses the same search algorithms) for over two years, just dropped down fairly recently. You will not get anywhere the amount of daily clicks on these engines but you can expect some longevity and get a fair amount over time.

Bing is the young teenager trying to do what they can. Google is the 40 year old, with tons of experience but still changing as it learns more.
