Online reputation management...when you "google" your own name?
So I'm in the process of getting my resume out to more jobs that look interesting and fit my work experience. I'm also in the middle of an interview process that looks promising. I interviewed with the CEO last week, and just need to meet with his partner next week. Fingers crossed.
It never really occurred to me, but I randomly googled my email address(the gmail that I have on my resume) and I saw a few negative results. A few years back, I was into promoting CPA offers and I had setup a niche site promoting one for teeth whitening that was converting well. It was a rebill and I didn't realize that they were not allowing people to cancel. So looks like a few people went on those complaints/scam forums and were reporting it. I didn't have the whois protection on that site(even though I had stopped promoting it) and they posted my name and email in the forum. So now that appears to come up when I google my name and/or email address.
Also about 4 years ago, a family member of mine was involved in a court case(that was dismissed) and for some reason, because of my last name and I think a lawyer or something having the same first name, that result also comes up at the bottom of the first page when I google my name and city. Needless to say, I'm sort of stressed about it. Is there a way I can bury some of those results just deal with the negative results for my name? I hadn't thought about it, but there's noway that's going to help me in my search for a job
Anyone have any advice or suggestions? Thanks.
