Oberlin college students (the most spoiled of them all) are complaining ...again....

Seems with all the protesting of injustice they are doing, many of them are finding it hard to keep up with the coursework in college. Thus,

** they are demanding a ban on mid-term exams

** and demanding no one get a grade below "C"

Does that school award a degree in walking around holding signs and protesting? How on earth do these people get jobs - do they ever graduate?

    Yep, that sounds right.

Giving a grade below a C is regarded as a microaggression performed by the professor, thus causing the student to seek domicile in a "Safe Place". Since mommy's womb is no longer available, the campus is required to retrofit an old conference room with fallopian tubes and provide sippy cups full of "appa juise" and a constant cycle of Care Bears cartoons.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Hey I agree. Give them all ABC. But make them sign a waiver that they can't sue when they can't get a job after graduating.

For what it's worth, I think it's really important that we have schools like this. God knows it sure helps weed out the whiners when screening resumes.

I've seen that school, you can buy a diploma online for $5.

    For which major?

Some classes are so BS theyre giving grades away just for breathing in the same room as the teacher. And the teacher is boring.

In 1970, Oberlin had modified its grading standards to accommodate activism around the Vietnam War and the Kent State shootings, and Bautista had hoped for something similar.
Just following in the steps of those damn hippie students from 60s. Lol. Nothing new.

Why should only the top percenters get good grades?

Jeez. 20 years ago I took 10 and 11 courses a term. I was glad to get a B average with that workload and while I thought about quitting many times, especially in the first term of my second year, I stuck with it. 6AM to midnight, 6 days a week. Our class slogan was "Last To Leave."

You have to wonder how these babies are going to accomplish anything in the real world. They don't want to work. They want achievement for doing nothing. They think, frankly, like communists. And this is a Canadian speaking, someone who truly understands the word "socialism" and isn't frightened by it as if it's a monster under the bed.

I imagine there are hardworking, diligent members of Gen Y and Gen Z (have to admit I don't know much about Gen Z at all)...and what we're hearing about are the whiny outliers...but it's scary.

In 25 years I'll have retired. And the world will be in the hands of...

Jason, I wouldn't plan on retiring....

With all these lazy up and coming spoiled kids, there will be a massive lack of experts on anything outside of Facebook or texting. There will be such a strong demand for your expertise, companies will be throwing money at you.

If you really wanted to coast, you could hold a few seminars each year where you charge $10,000 a head. That could be your "fun money." :-)

Ha ha ... the sense of self-entitlement and the whining are vomit inducing.

    Read this
    Yeah, he said that.

The sense of entitlement among these students is simply off-the-charts. One girl named Megan, a Bronx native who “identifies as Afro-Latinx,” expresses her exhaustion after the living hell that is life at Oberlin:

Then she wanted to get as far away from the United States as she could. “Working my piece of land somewhere and living autonomously—that’s the dream,” she said. “Just getting the eff out of America. It’s a sinking ship.”

Babe, you come from the Bronx. You would be lucky to be able to grow a Chia pet.

Heller transcribes a priceless snit-fit among minority students he meets with, who apparently just make stuff up:

But the alumni reactions were the worst, according to Adams. “They are quick to turn around and call twenty-year-old students the N-word, and monkeys, and illiterate uneducated toddlers, and tell us to go back to Africa where we came from, and that Martin Luther King would be ashamed of us,” she says. “We knew realistically that most of those demands were not going to be met. We understand legality. We understand finances—”

Thank you, Tawana Brawley. How many people in this room believe that alumni of one of the most legendarily liberal colleges in the nation call black students racist names and tell them to go back to Africa? Nobody? Right. Let’s continue:

“We see the pattern of nonresponse,” Slay says.

Zakiya Acey furrows his brow. “The argument was ‘Oh, so students ask for this, but it’s not legal,’ ” he says. “But it’s what I need. And it’s what this country needs, and it’s my country. That’s the whole point. We’re asking—”

“We’re asking to be reflected in our education,” Adams cuts in. “I literally am so tired of learning about Marx, when he did not include race in his discussion of the market!” She shrugs incredulously. “As a person who plans on returning to my community, I don’t want to assimilate into middle-class values. I’m going home, back to the ’hood of Chicago, to be exactly who I was before I came to Oberlin.”

Yes, this person in dire need of a straitjacket is griping because a 19th-century German Jew writing a dense book of economic and social theory while sitting in the British library didn’t factor race into his analysis of capitalism. And so it goes.
... and the New Yorker has a good article on it also.

Not everyone from the '60's was a goofball hippie. Unfortunately, I know of some people who still aren't out of that mode and I do agree that some people (goofy 60's hippie types) are still disgusting in their own often hilarious and unfortunately very detrimental ways.

How to graduate with a doctorate from oberlin in days, maybe sooner:

    1. Register for every needed course.
    2. Tell them you will not be attending.
    3. Pickup your degree.
