The scary part of networking marketing

Why are there so many people that jump into these programs/products and start throwing out ridiculous claims? I mean.. they can literally ruin someones life.

I had someone with an MLM product (let's just pretend it's called XYZ) come up to me recently, I bought the product because I tried it and it seemed cool. Eventually I got heart burn everytime I tried it, which made me stop. They started freaking out over the fact that it is a miracle worker and if I'm getting heart burn, I should take even more XYZ to feel better.

Even more scary, during a meeting, someone mention that their family member had died of cancer.. and the person in MLM said, "They should have been using XYZ"... they believe so heavily in the product even though it's definitely not a miracle cure.

Anyhow, last rant... I see this sooooooooo heavily in network marketing. What the hell is wrong with the industry? It's scary.

    Hi,

I completely agree with you, it's sick and disturbing that people will portray that kind if message just to make a quick dollar.

There are a few reasons this sort of thing is rampant in the network marketing / MLM industry but here are a couple:

    1. MLM products which happen to be supplements are not heavily regulated.

There are many instances where supplements don't contain what they claim (or in the specified amounts) and there are also many companies that flat out lie about the effects of said supplements, even where there's absolutely no clinical evidence to back it up.

Sick and desperate people will buy almost anything if someone convincingly says they have a cure for their ails.

    2. Similarly, people will hype up income claims to sell people on joining their downline, just like they hype "cures" to sell to desperate or gullible people.

Many network marketers are some of the worst "marketers" in the world.

They don't know anything about actual marketing, so the only way they know of "selling" something is to make over-the-top claims and hope the prospect bites.

Some of the problems with the industry are encouraged by the companies themselves, and others are mostly the work of the individual reps of the company (who may even ignore when their company tells them not to lie about the product or compensation plan).

Unfortunately some people will do anything for a buck. Some people also get brainwashed and just follow the crowd and hype and maybe even believe the hype.
