P.S. Sorry guys this is too big for NBA Thread for this past year. Its a new season anyway

  • Lol. Robert, I thought he would stay with OKC for another year at least up until the last few days. Once I read this week about some Warrior players recruiting Durant all year and then thinking about how the owners have been very persuasive when going after people they want ( Kerr, Iguodala ) I thought they had a much better chance. Then I read that the Logo talked to him by phone and spelled out exactly why he should pick the Warriors I almost would have been shocked if he didn't sign with them. It really does make sense. Their defense is going to be awesome and their offense.... damn!

The based God took his curse off of Durant also. lol
    • [ 4 ] Thanks
  • Tim,
you're Misery that you experienced two weeks ago was a blessing in disguise. No way KD goes to Dubs if they win this past year.
His ego is too big to join a team who is on their way building a dynasty with two in a row. He would feel like he would be just riding Curry's and Thompson's coat tails. It would really seem cheesy lol

With the Warriors loss he feels like he can come and round out the team to get back on track to Dynasty mode.

My oh my how things in Life can change so quickly. Warrior nation down and out just week before last. now turns to celebration and a lot of Hope and the potential for an incredible scenario i.e. Curry, Thompson, Green, Durant in the starting rotation.

    Not Fair

    I'm protesting lol
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Not fair perhaps but the right decision for Durant. He really fits in great with the way he plays and will make for a huge improvement over Barnes, who I think is a terrific talent. I just wish the Warriors could find a way to keep Bogut.

You are right about losing the finals helped make the decision easier for Durant but I wonder if he would have done the same thing anyways. Hell, he is already getting criticized big time for this decision.

I think his injuries the past few years make it a good decision also and the fact that Westbrook was likely leaving after next year anyways.

Hey, the Spurs added a superstar also last year. Not quite on Durant's level but one of the best for sure. Now the Spurs might get Gasol which would be very interesting.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Officially makes OKC shit and GSW over powered as ****!
  • I'll be the dissenter here...I'm not sold on "all star" teams. Personally, I don't think you mess with a team that won 73 games. I would do everything to keep them together.

About a year after my Nuggets entered the NBA, they had a starting lineup of:
    Dan Issel
    George McGinnis
    Charley Scott
    David Thompson

It doesn't get much more talented than that. However, that team only won 48 games that year, quite a few games less than in the previous few seasons.

How many titles did Houston win with Akeem, Drexler and Barkley?

I'm not saying the Dubs won't win it all next year, they may. However, I would have made them the favorites without Durant. Again, I just don't think you mess with the chemistry of a 73 win team. But that's probably why Jerry West is "The Logo" and I'm not.

The positive from this is more addition by subtraction in that signing Durant severely weakened OKC, which took the Dubs to the wire last season. There's now one less team in the West to contend with.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • I hear ya, Kurt. The chemistry of a team is super important. That was the big reason I was against trading Klay for Love two years ago. I really hate to lose Bogut and Barnes but it's worth the risk for Durant. He seems to be a perfect fit for them offensively, defensively and also personality wise.

Durant says he wants to improve as a player. Well, he will be in the perfect environment for that. It's a scary thought to think he. Curry, Green and Thompson can all get better.
  • "2016-2017 NBA Thread Starts NOW"? Or should it be "2016-2017 NBA Thread Ends NOW?

As a Cavs fan, I'm very, very, very afraid. Heck, I already was very, very, very afraid -- now I'm just ready to hide under my covers.

That said, Kurt is right, chemistry is huge. And having watched Kevin Love struggle to find his place in Cleveland amongst two other stars, I have no doubt that Durant (and the rest of the Warriors) will have a period of adjustment. Still, even if Durant doesn't score a point, he's an asset on defense in a way that Love is only starting to become. And regardless... he's just soooooooo goooooood.

I guess the good news is that now that OKC is toast and now that other teams in the East looking to make some big improvements over the offseason (I'm looking at you Boston and Toronto!), maybe we'll start getting some love and attention on this side of the Mississippi. Of course, it also helps that the defending champs play in the East.

Still... I don't remember ever seeing a defending champion that's as good as the Cavs have the odds stacked so much against them before the season even started. And that's 100% due to the already amazing talent of the Golden State Warriors and this monster signing. That said, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert and GM David Griffen have shown they're willing to get creative (and spend the money!) to stay competititve, so I wouldn't be surprised to see headlines about a blockbuster trade for the Cavs when the trade deadline rolls around in 2017. Mo Williams for Stephen Curry? Yeah, that seems fair to me!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Chemistry blemistry

First of all the splash brothers are your core offensively. Bet you they are grinning ear to ear. They have a player that the defense has to collapse in on and even double team INSIDE the arc. All Durant has to do is kick out and your chemistry is alive and well. Outside game is complemented by inside game. Without needing to chuck within a millisecond they can take open threes with time.

2nd Durant is not going to GS to be THE man.. Hes going to pick up a ring while he is still in his prime on a team that won it all last year without him, took Durant out this year and came within one game of winning it all again this year.

the only one really affected is green who will have less to do with offense.

this is a NO BRAINER and no doubt Lebron is working the phones trying to see who he can get to come over to Cleveland because one thing is skippy. Put Durant on the GS team that just had spurts where the threes were not falling and there is NO WAY you come back to beat them when they are up 3-1. This compliments more than people think. Outside shooting opens up lanes and driving lanes pulls the defense off the perimeter.

this isn't even like Miami with the big three. this is a team that won it all before the defection. If you want to do a comparison see how badly Birds Celtics would have done if they added Jordan or the show time lakers if they did the same and thats even with Jordan's lousy personality

    They'll be just fine.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • It's interesting, Mike, that a 6'11" guy will be the Dubs best driver to the rim offensively. However, Curry has improved dramatically in that department the last few years and Green and Klay have also. The Warriors struggled in the playoffs because Curry wasn't 100%. I think Durant realized this also.

The Warriors could just start F'ing with people and put Durant at point guard for large periods of the game. The thing is, how do you guard against such a versatile offense? Green led the Warriors in assists with Curry right behind. Now you got another big who can drive and dish.

One interesting statistic I saw the past day or so was that the Thunder were last in the league is passes per game last year. The Warriors were last in the league in Mark Jackson's last year as coach. Now they lead the league in assists. I'm sure this was pointed out to Durant also. Passing the ball between unselfish players will only make his job easier and make him even more efficient. I wouldn't be surprised if Durant has his best season ever next year.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Let it go my man. Give credit where its due. I know that was a bitter pill to swallow after being up 3-1 and almost scheduling the parade but Curry moved around the court just fine and at that point in the season there are always players on a team with a sore this or sore that. Theres no asterisk besides Cleveland's win although again I get why every one in Dubs world wants there to be.Durant joined the GS to put them waaay over the top to get a ring not because he figured he wouldn't be needed.

You can't. You've now got the ultimate inside outside game which is why all the chemistry talk is off. By mid season it will all work out as there really is no question the dubs will win enough to reach the playoffs. This is better than the oldish center post up and dish at the double team. Durant can break an offense down take it to the hoop and then dish. You could see the old Shaq posting up and dishing out coming from a mile away. You don't know when durant will take it all the way because a drive takes less time that the old school post up back to the basket

Freaking fantastic pickup and even better is that at this point theres no one in free agency left that can truly counter the move. Wade to Cleveland would have been an interesting counter but only a few years ago before Wade had a history of injuries.

If theres any bad news this might be a one time deal. Basically it a one year contract with a player option for the second.
      • [1] reply
  • I'm blown away by Durant going to Tim's Warriors. Now, no one has any chance of stopping them from coming out of the west for the 3rd year in a row - unless they get decimated by injuries.

    Congrats Tim!

  • The Nuggets are making a strong push for Dwyane Wade. Rumors are we're offering him more money than anyone else.

I have mixed feelings about this. We already have 5 young 6'4"-6'5" players with potential. They really need minutes to develop.

On the other hand, the Nuggets were last in attendance last year. Wade will bring local and national interest. He could also possibly attract another veteran free agent or two and show the other players that it's OK to come to Denver.

Because of all the young players we already have at that position, I probably wouldn't do it myself, but I can see why the front office wants to...
  • More than one outlet is reporting he is signing with chicago.

Really surprised by this - swore Miami would end up resigning him because the fallout in South Florida is going to be great - He is the most beloved player in franchise history
    • [2] replies
    • Wade said two days ago when discussing the Durant left OKC, "relationships are important, people". Pat Riley looks bad here imo and that not good for their future.

Wade was partly referring to the friendship Durant has had with Curry and Iguodala since 2010 but also, perhaps, he was eluding to the problems with Riley.
    • What are you talking about?? He's washed up, injured etc..etc..

He is delusional if he thinks he is worth anything close to what he is asking.

It's ashame "dead horses" do not respectfully just bow out and go to the pasture where they belong.

      Same with Ginoboli,

      sorry Spurs, its the truth

  • I have to look at the bright side of things with Wade signing with Chicago. The good news is, Jimmer Fredette is playing on the Nuggets summer league team. /sarcasm

I have a feeling it's going to be another long season.

The good news is, we should have close to $60 million in cap space next year, when there's supposed to be a number of quality free agents. In defense of the Nuggets front office, this has been their game plan for a while. The unexpected possibility of getting Wade kind of threw a wrench into these plans.

BTW, did I ever mention the Broncos won the Super Bowl?
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • More info coming in on Durant's decision. One source says Durant felt the Thunder had plateaued and that there was a concern about the offense relying on hero ball, isolation plays and contested shots. Kind of goes along with what I was thinking earlier about how the team was last in the league in passing.

Kevin Durant Reportedly Thought The Thunder Had

    • Little bit different from Kobe's retirement tour. lol Yep, typical Duncan. It will be weird seeing the Spurs play without Duncan. What a great player. One of three players to win over 1000 games in the regular season.

Anyone watching the summer league? I caught parts of a few games. That Simmons kid does look special. He's one hell of a passer and seems to have a very high bb iq. Kriss Dunn looks like a point guard ready to start for the Timberwolves. He would have to take the job from Rubio but that just may happen. The Timberwolves are going to be tough. The Suns' Devin Booker looked great in the second half of last year and he is continuing to look that way in this summer league. He is going to be an all star. I'm looking forward to the Warriors playing the Lakers tonight and seeing Ingram. The Warriors second round pick Patrick McCaw looked impressive in his first game.

  • The Nuggets' Nikola Jokic was the best player on the court as the Serbs almost upset the US.
  • OK, season starts tonight with three games including my Warriors against Robert's Duncanless Spurs. How will Pops do without Duncan? I hear the Spurs may be looking to trade Aldridge already after just one year! Very surprising if true. The Warriors defense in the pre-season looked like it missed Bogut, but I expect it will come together in the regular season. Durant and Klay looked awesome in the pre-season. :p They also have a second round rookie McCaw who looks like one of the steals in the draft. He should be in the rotation which is rare for a 2nd rounder playing on a finals team.

The Cavs play the Knicks first. Rose thinks the Knicks are a super team also but I think they are going to struggle through a tough season again, just slightly better than last year.
    • [1] reply
    • Right now, my Nuggets are in first place, tied for the best record in the NBA.

Actually, we'll probably have a slow start playing 6 of our first 7 on the road, then game 8 is against the Golden State Tims. I wish we had more home games early to help us get off to a good start. I think this is especially important for young teams.

It looks like we'll begin with a big lineup with both Nurkic and Jovic starting. Jovic came in 3rd in the rookie of the year last season and some of the metrics people say he should have won. Nurkic was hurt most of the last year, but the year before in his rookie season he was the only Nugget with a positive +/-.

Now we just need to figure out how to tie Curry's shoestrings together and slip Durant a roofie without them knowing it.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I guess nobody told my Spurs that they were going up against an unstoppable
    Super Team LOL

Really impressive and who would have thought the results of tonight. Spurs defense is second to none

Of course it is the first game and I think the Warriors in a couple of months will be gelling much much better and still the team to beat. No question

But I think the Spurs made a HUGE statement in that even though the odds are hugely in favor for the Dubs to win it all... they are going to have a thorn in their side to contend with called San Antonio
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Epic fail - Get Durant and end up with a winless season so far

    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Well, according to Kenny the Jet they will win 77 games this year with 5 losses. So they can only lose
      4 more games

Seriously though. Once they get the cogs in line I they they are going to be hard to beat.

      Really

The only thing I see is the Defense is far behind their offense power. Not that their defense is bad but it might be their Achilles heals in trying to attain ultimate Greatness. Losing a few of those guys including Bogut probably hurt in that regard.

But they still have Green who is right there with Leonard. And they will continue only to get better

I don't blame him as that Series last Summer was an anomaly, imo. I honestly do not think that scenario would play out the way it did 9 out of 10 times

    • Last night, for the first time this year, I felt the Warriors played up to their level of last years regular season team and that was just for one quarter. In the second quarter their defense played great and that part of their game has been lacking this year. They held Toronto to 15 points. Now, if they can just build on that and be more consistent.

There's been some surprises so far this year: Derozen is leading the league in scoring. Atlanta is playing really well with the addition of Dwight Howard. The Lakers are playing well. I thought Walton would do well with them but 7 wins already?!
    • Big game tonight. Lakers look like they are more than just rebuilding. Definitely playoff contenders.

Should be a good one. Lakers manhandled Tim's team a couple of weeks ago.

Pau looking forward to coming home. Spurs still undefeated on road

    • Some upsets last night as the Spurs ( at home again. What's up with dat Robert? ), Cavs and Clippers all lose. The Lakers too. JR Smith is still an oddball. During the game he went over to the sidelines to greet Jason Terry and his man dunked. lol

Westbrook is averaging a triple double so far. His rebounding is what really amazes me. He's the only guard in the top 30 in rebounds.

    • The Warriors still haven't jelled, losing last night for the second time this year to Memphis, blowing a 24 point lead. They are not playing well at all at the end of games. Seems to be a continuation of the Finals. Last night Durant went iso at the end of the game and missed a 3 pointer. Draymond was pissed and let Durant know it.

One team I have liked ever since last year, when the ended the Warriors longest end streak, is Milwalkee. Their defense is one of the best in the league and their offense is improving. Young talented team. They play the good teams well, including the Cavs. I want to see someone really challenge the Cavs this year in the playoffs. Who knows, maybe it will be the Bucks. Jalen Rose last night actually said they might be the 4th best team in the league. I don't know about that, but they are getting up their.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • Wow Spurs one game back. Who would have thunk?
....Spurs lose Timmy, Dubs gain Durant.

Of course they will still be hard to beat once they click together
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • The Cavs trade for Kyle Korver. That isn't fair! Dammit!

Another surprise team is Houston. Who would have thought D'Antoni could make the Rockets such a better team? I was frankly shocked he got another coaching job after his last couple of stints.

"Hopefully they can get Grayson Allen and Draymond Green to have a kick boxing match too." haha Grayson must be working out with Draymond in the off season. He's got his kicking moves down except he doesn't go after the bolas.

Kurt, how are you liking Carmelo's year so far?

    50 pts
    16 rebs
    7 steals
    5 assists
    4 blocks (I think)

...but was still -3 in the +/-.

    • Yeah, that's the most over rated stat there is imo.

I watched the Sixers and OKC game last night and was impressed with Joel Embiid. That guy is a very talented big man, maybe up there with Towns. When they get Simmons back and perhaps Noel ( he may be traded ) that team will be tough. By the way, I read one rumor that says the Warriors are looking to get either Noel or Okafor from the Sixers.
  • Nuggets 1st round pick Jamal Murray is yet to hit a FG. He's 0 for 16 in his first 4 pro games, which has to be close to a record for most shots missed to start a career. I think he'll be OK, but it has to be frustrating for him.

I don't mean to brag, but I can miss 16 straight shots too and I'll do it for a lot less money.

I like JaVale and think he's a good guy. When he was in Denver he would do things like tweet and invite everyone within a few minutes to Chipotle and buy everyone that showed up burritos.

    • He is a funny dude. A few games ago the Warriors had a fast break and Curry was wide open at the three point line. Durant passed it and McGee thought it was for him, reached back and deflected it out of bounds. Ooops. I'm glad the Warriors picked him up though because he does have talent and is playing well. He's also a good guy like you said, Kurt. He's already involved in the community.

By the way, Klay had 60 last night in just three quarters! When he's hot, he's really hard to stop.

  • The bright spot for the Nuggets is Nikola Jokic. This kid is going to be an all star. He started off the season slowly, mostly due to being moved to the 4. Then he was on the bench behind Nurkic.

Finally, he was moved to starting Center...here's his stats since:

Plus he's the best passer on the team and Isaiah Thomas (the original) jokingly called him "Magic". He was actually a point guard when he was younger until he had a growth spurt. He's a 7 footer with point guard skills.

He's had foul trouble, which has cut down on his minutes or his stats would probably be even better.

Today he tweeted again about Anthony, saying you can't change spots on a leopard. How is this something smart to do? Reminds me of another egomaniac who can't stop tweeting. lol

    • So Love had knee surgery and will be out at least six weeks which will be about two weeks before the playoffs. Maybe the Cavs should have traded him for Melo after all. Love is injury prone.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle thinks the Celtics have a good chance to make it to the finals this year. Currently, they trail the Cavs by just 2 games. "The Celtics have got a legitimate chance to get to the Finals with that team out of the East," Carlisle said. "It's a very, very good basketball team. ... Their ability to score is elite and they have great depth. They have a lot of guys that have gained experience. I just see them as a real threat."

I think Washington could give the Cavs a good run for their money also. Maybe even Toronto since they just added Ibaka via trade.

  • And speaking of Reggie Lewis...He played at Dunbar High School and was one of four NBA first round picks on that high school team. If I remember correctly, the other 3 were Reggie Williams, Muggsy Bogues and David Wingate. That's a pretty good high school team.

    • After last years finals, yes. I don't think the Warriors are in the same category as the peak Michael Jordon led Bulls Championship years. Yet. If they win this year, then people can start to compare. Curry, Thompson and Durant have to be more consistent in the playoffs, and especially the finals. I think the more experience they have in the playoffs the better they will get, but they certainly are beatable.

      Seems about right.

    • Yes, the slam dunk I haven't watched in years. The 3 point contest I watched last year but not this year. The game itself is not interesting anymore. I think they used to try to play some defense, but maybe I'm wrong about that. Now, it's just wide open dunks and 3 point shots.

The Demarcus Cousins trade was surprising because everyone was denying it would happen. The Pelicans should make the playoffs now because they have imo the two best bigs in the league, a good point guard, plus a good coach. We'll see if Cousins can control his temper.

Vlade Divac, the Kings GM, said he had a better deal for Cousins two days earlier. Why say something like that? SMH. That isn't going to make Kings fans too happy.

Jokic followed It up with another triple double tonight with 13, 14 and 10.

Jokic is different from practically all the other centers in that he gets his triple with assists and not blocks.

    • [1] reply
    • That is surprising and impressive for Jokic. I would have thought somebody like Ginobili, Dirk, Nash, Tony Parker, Olajuwon, Kyrie Erving, Detlef Schrempf, Kukoc etc... would have over 6. I was also a bit surprised to find out Draymond Green needs one more triple double to tie the Warriors all time record of 20.

Boston sure layed an egg the other night against the Cavs. Geesh. And they lost again last night to Atlanta. Is any team in the East ever going to play a Lebron team tough?

  • That's it for me...we finished 40-42. I thought we'd have around 43 wins, so I wasn't too far off. The best thing for the season is Jokic showing he may be able to become a superstar. Last game of the year he had 29-16-8 and added 5 blocks.

  • Lurker here , I like basketball, could Toronto make the Cavs work or it's going to be a short series?
    • [1] reply
    • I sure hope Toronto can at least win a couple games. I was disappointed in Indiana, who were ahead of the Cavs by 26 in game three and blew it. No wonder Larry Bird retired.

I wouldn't want either of those guys. Griffin mostly because he can't seem to play a whole season without getting injured and would be too expensive for an injury prone star. Plus, he's not the inside player he used to be.

I'm glad to see the Celtics turn it around and beat the Bulls. They will still have home court advantage against the Cavs if they meet.

Big game seven tomorrow. It's strange because I have felt myself pulling for the Clippers the last couple of games and that never happens.

The Spurs vs Houston series should be real interesting. I think the Rockets just might pull an upset.

  • A deal that seems to make sense is Carmelo to LAC for Blake Griffin, although if I were LAC I wouldn't want Melo.
  • ^ A Clippers victory will finally answer , can GSW beat LAC in the playoffs? but then again Griffin is not healthy so there's Doc Rivers excuse . A Jazz-Warriors match-up will no doubt make the Warriors sweat and barring any major injury, GSW in 5 or 6.
  • And speaking of overrated Clippers....anyone else think CP3 is a bit overrated?
    • [1] reply
    • Hmm, I'm not sure if he is overrated anymore. He used to be considered the best point guard for years and now he is maybe in the top 5. Maybe. I don't think he is the problem with the Clippers. Their lack of depth, coaching and constant injuries hurt them.

Good win for the Spurs last night! And the Cavs seem to be back in playoff mode, or is it that Toronto just sucks?

  • While I am not a fan of Golden State or Cleveland (I do not root against either of them), I was surprised at the start of the NBA season fans and writers complaining how few teams could win the title.

If you go back in NBA history it isn't as if the Warriors/Cavs invented dominance. The Boston Celtics won 8 titles in a row.

Sports have often had a team tower over the others and did not suffer in terms of attendance or revenue. Hockey in the past had dominance by the Montreal Canadians. The Yankees had several periods in time where they were on top of the mountain by far.

Enjoy the good about the NBA and if we get Warriors/Cav's 3 it is not a bad thing.

  • And the Celtics got one over the Cavs, my 5 game prediction still on course
Weird LeBron scored only 11 points which brought me a funny thought, probably someone in Vegas cashed in on the results, people are expecting a 40-60 point massacre of the Celtics and this happened with the Cavs even blowing a 21 point lead. Someone is probably counting his winnings right now

    • I expect the Cavs to fight hard tonight with some of their role players playing better now that they are home.
Lebron needs some help. He's looking frustrated already and tired in the second halves, although playing great.

Durant's defense has been exceptional. I was as excited to have him added to the Warriors because of his defense as I was because of his offense and he has meshed in well with their defensive scheme.

Good to see Kerr on the bench although it's obvious he is still in pain.

Draymond has kept his leg kicking in check and has only one technical I believe. Curry is playing at his top form or at least very close to it. Nice to see that in the finals for a change. Even Klay is coming around offensively.
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • Curry is out rebounding Triston Thompson in this series. lol He's also very close to averaging a triple double, which LeBron is doing also. That last game was a good one, with several great performances on both teams. Can the Cavs come back and win tonight? I'm thinking they won't but you never know. If they do I may just buy a finals tickets and go to game 5.
    • Yeah, not much of a series. I know Silverman and the NBA executives can't stand this at all.
Most everyone around me is bored by it not really watching it and have better things to do.

I just wish the Warriors had the same team last year. It really seems so much more authentic to many.

Tim, I know you are excited and seriously congrats but it all seems contrived to many people outside the Warrior fan base.

I know you don't like hearing that but it's just the truth and it's
not just me its many, many people..

People keep saying look at the Heat with the BIG 3. They did it too.. I think that is like comparing Apples to oranges. This Warrior team with Durant is much, much better. Not even close

You took a Super team and added a super player who will be in the top 5 to ever play the game when all is said and done and the two best sharp shooters to ever stand on a basketball court, imo. All on the same team

Just really bizarre that whole trade and like I said it seems contrived.

It would be like Kareem being traded and wanting to go to the 86' Celtics.

Anyway, I know it may sound like sour grapes ( maybe a little ) but really I have truly thought that from day 1 of the trade.
If Durant or Lebron came to the Spurs after 2014 it would really be weird to me. Would I mind it ??
Probably not !! lol. But honestly it would still always leave a weird aftertaste in my mouth

Silverman says he is making it his goal to make sure it does not ever happen again.
    • Robert, it's ok. I know a lot of people feel like it is hurting the league, but what will happen is other teams will try to get better to challenge the Warriors. Who? Well, your Spurs team for one. If they sign Chris Paul and maybe get one or two new role players, they could be right there with the Dubs. Also, the Cavs can improve by trading Love for a better defender who can still score some and add a few other defense first type players. That last game was close and really, so was the game before. They are going to compete for the next few years even if they don't do anything. Boston could get better and there are some other up and coming teams.

The Dubs are playing great though, I must admit. If they sweep the Cavs they can be in the discussion as best team ever.
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • Well I guess maybe I posted too soon LOL. Still incredible for the Dubs to reel off that many playoff wins in a row before tonight. One of the greatest accomplishments ever in
      NBA, imo.

Now back to Oakland. It's weird but I actually think pressure is back on the Dubs.

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • By the way, Jerry West apparently is going to sign with the Clips. This is a great move by the Clippers. I am surprised because of West's age but he says he feels young and is still competitive. There's also rumors flowing that Lebron might leave Cleveland again and two teams that are mentioned are the Lakers and the Clippers. To me it makes more sense for him to go to the Clippers and hiring West will only help them convince LeBron to go there. LeBron is an admirer of West.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • Congrats to Tim and the Warriors

I'll conceded and let the KD thing slide and just chalk it up as making the league that much better and upping the standards for all the teams....especially if they want to compete.

But I still say that next year will not be a shoe in for with the Warriors. Leonard is going to be a beast to handle. I won't say he is as dynamic as KD is as far as an offensive machine. But he is not too far behind. And his defense will just keep getting better
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • So the draft is coming up in a couple of days. Boston traded their #1 to Philly for the #3 and another #1. The Sixers will likely take Markelle Fultz. Man, the Sixers are going to be a hell of a team next year if they can stay healthy. Fultz, Simmons, Embiid and Covington just may create the team to challenge the Cavs in the next couple of years, assuming the Cavs keep LeBron.

Should be interesting to see who Boston and the Lakers take.

The Cavs will have a new GM and are looking to improve their team again, with Paul George and Jimmy Butler the two big names coming up.

If they quit calling fouls and let the players get away with more brute force, like they have done for most previous finals, the Cavs still have a chance. Dubs/Cavs were in this same situation last year, with Dubs leading 3-1. Difference is, this year Dubs have KD and will have Draymond, plus they have the history of last year as motivation, and this is a big difference.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
  • Like I said - if they are allowed to play 'brawl ball' the Cavs can win. So many fouls going on the refs can't call them all. Sure GS was committing them too but it is impossible not to get dragged into it when the other team is trying to physically intimidate you.

Where credit is due... in the first 1/2 the Cavs were making every shot even with some great defense in their face.

I still think GS would have won if it weren't for all the delays to watch replays and sort out other issues involving techs. You could see it start to happen that the Cavs were starting to run out of gas on both defense and offense just before all the game stoppages. Key players were getting a lot of rest. There is no way they keep up that same intensity and have the legs or rhythm for shooting if they go 4 quarters without the bonus rest. I don't think it was on purpose or some conspiracy but it would have been a different game without a second half time.
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Yes, and that's very important for the Cavs to have a chance to win. I read a good article about how the Cavs defense was terrible this year in transition. They were dead last. However, after made shots their defense was much better, ranked #10. So, after made shots their defense has a chance to setup and can play pretty tough. On the other side, the Warriors transition offense ranked #1.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Let's see if Dubs could end this tonight...Curry and Durant both losers to LeBron Teams in the NBA Finals should go for the kill considering both their teams has lost consecutive games against this same man in a Finals series :
2012- OKC dropped 4 straight games, Heat wins championship
2016- GSW dropped 3 straight games, Cavaliers wins championship
Another disturbing trend that seems to build up between this two teams since 2015 is a tendency to have a streak, either team is able to dealt a 3 or 4 successive wins.

He transferred there and basically is the best player there along with the others. But, it's not like he did not work for it. I don't care about you haters, he did what was best for him. Like what the analysts have said, it shouldn't have happened if bron stayed in cleveland in 2011.

    • Congrats to stef who is a class act and will probably be a golden state lifer. However feel free to call me a hater where Durant is concerned. I and many others will put an asterisk besides his ring.

It's not that I am against super teams - It's that fighting in the trenches one year against a team then switching to the opposition in the next is just a bandwggoner move.

I think that's what stung the great fans of okc the most not Durant leaving or even forming a super team but playing your last game in OKC against a team and taking the easy way out by joining that Same team in your very next game.

Say what you will about Lebron but Miami was not a championship level team without him. Without KD GS is still in the finals and still very likely to win it all.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hey Mike Anthony... haha...
OKC could not even commit to their players. Look at what they did to James Harden? If they were committed to winning, they should have done their part and kept him. Now, if you are KD what does that tell you? KD knows the management way more than anyone of us. Do you expect him to wait for the management to do their work and they would not even pay great talent (harden). He wants to win and he didn't see that happening in OKC. Period.

Why would I not compare Lebron going to miami the same with KD's move? Did that 8th seed miami team have Chris bosh in his prime? They literally formed a big 3 there. First time KD met lebron in the finals, he and his team were too young and inexperienced to go up against bron, wade, and bosh in their prime. And all praises for lebron and that team. Why can't KD have that? Talk about double standards.

    • That point doesn't hold up when you see how well they played GS last year but anyway the point is not that he didn't stay with OKC but that he merely bandwaggoned on a team likely to win it all without him

That's pretty easy to answer on Lebron's side. No one can make a rational argument Miami wins any of the rings without him. The end.

As for answering Shaq...he still can't. The Shaqs, the Jordan's, the Lebron's, the Kobe's, the Curry's shucks even the Wade's all elevated their teams to contention not merely hooked up with a team that could and would win without them.

Now if he returns to OKC or another team and does what those players did he can join the first tier but any good player can join a championship level team and get a ring.

As for OKC and harden... They made a mistake but for a young city in a small market I wouldn't say they have no commitment to winning.

So to clarify and let it die from my end. The asterisk for many is NOT anti super team or even pro never leaving a team - it's someone of KD's skill set just going with an already formed super team.

  • ^ You can't really blame KD for leaving a team whos management wants to win a championship with a budget meal lineup. Seeing LeBron get his third ring last year probably was one of the last strings. They are supposed to be rivals you know and here he is stuck with zero rings at that point. Now he can retire and talk back to players like Shaq( Ilike the dude) but O'neal is like a broken record when he cant handle a good conversation anymore or its not going his way, he always brag and hides behind his rings specially against Charles Barkley. This makes me appreciate and understand LeBron and KD.

Oh another thing, theres this "But Magic,Larry and MJ never joined the opposition or switch teams to get rings"
Guess what? Magic and Larry are already NBA champions by the time their rookie contract was up.
MJ? He hates the Pistons to the bone, really, you expect him to join that team?
The stigma of winning ringless probably made this to LeBron and KD to jump ship. The blame is not really on them. They smartly just avoided one of the potential stains of their HoF careers.

  • Interesting rumor in the local Denver media has the Nuggets interested in Chris Paul and it seems Paul has some interest in the Nuggets. From my point of view though, it would seem that the Spurs would be a better fit for Paul at this stage in his career. Part of the rumor though is that players (including Paul) want to play with Jokic because of his play-making and unselfishness..

    • A note that isn't getting much attention...Pau Gasol just declined his option and is willing to take less money which frees up a bunch of cap space for the Spurs.

  • I'm starting to question Lonzo Ball as a prospect. Saw a scouting report on him that said he only made 7 mid-range shots all last season. He either shoots the 3 or drives all the way to the hoop. Also, because of his shooting motion he can only shoot jumpers going to his left.

I have doubts about a player without any mid-range game and limited to shooting only going to his left.

Celts have 7 #1 picks over the next 3 years. Maybe trade four of them for Anthony Davis?
  • I feel like the Nuggets lost the draft.

    • That Lydon seems like a good pick.

I'm happy with what the Warriors got as they bought an athletic defensive big who can probably start playing right away in their small ball lineups.

Looks like the Knicks actually made another good pick with that point guard from France.

Sacramento had a good day also, so maybe they will start turning things around.

The consensus seems to be that Chicago was the biggest loser.

  • I believe Jokic will be as good a passer and rebounder as Larry Bird...actually, he's already a better rebounder. Watch some of his passing highlights:

    • Looks like Doc Rivers is being exposed as someone who favors his son and many of his players, including Paul, resented and even despised him for it. I just never understood why the Clips gave him so much power and leeway to run the organization. It was pretty clear he was making dumb decisions and as a coach, I think he is way overrated. Or was way overrated.

Look for West to move Doc out soon.

    • Yeah, it's only going to get easier for Lebron to make the finals again.

Minnesota is also replacing Rubio with Teague, which is probably an improvement although Rubio is a good player. Plus, they are thinking of adding Milsap or Reddick. Minnesota is going to be tough.

Meanwhile the Rockets are also being very aggressive. They want Igoudala and also are talking to the Knicks about getting Melo. Melo has a no trade contract but maybe he would agree to go to Houston.

BTW, your guy Peyton Manning was pretty funny at the ESPY's. And Durant did a good acting job of pretending to be upset. lol

    • I watched quite a bit of the summer league this year. Lonzo Ball does look like he will be a good player at least. Not sure still if he will be the star the Lakers have been waiting for but he sure can pass the ball. Plus, the Lakers look like they have another very good rookie in Kuzma who was a late first round pick.

The Blazers got a late first round pick who also had a very good summer league in Caleb Swanigan. He's going to fit in real well with that team. He has an interesting story in that he not only grew up in a tough situation, being homeless with a drug addicted father, but also was very obese as a kid, weighing 350 pounds in the 8th grade. He was adopted by Roosevelt Barnes, the retired Detroit Lions linebacker who changed his life. Great story!

    • A lot has happened in the off season. The latest thing that has me scratching my head is about Durant and his posting to social media as what is obviously what he thought was his other, anonymous account. Did you see that Kurt? He says he hasn't been able to sleep for two nights because of it. lol. Embarrassing. Not quite as bad as Draymond posting a photo of his willie on Instagram though. haha

    • Supposedly Lebron is "devastated". I don't think Lebron is a bad guy and he seems to have plenty of friends, but if I was a player I don't think I would want to play with him.

  • Melo to OKC...the two players I dislike the most in the NBA (Melo and Westbrook) make it very convenient for me to pick a team to root against. I also think it will be very difficult for these two players to play well together, unless Melo can greatly reduce his need to be a ball hog and is willing to be the third option behind Westbrook and George.
  • this will definitely be an interesting thing throughout the NBA ... best regards know ...
