Gotta Catch'em All - Pokemon GO will have more daily users than Twitter by Tuesday. (original article here)
Amazing right? With a highly provocative user acquisition (pulling on the childhood heartstrings of millennials) the app has gone mental here in Australia and internationally.
Here's something to think about real quick:
According to VentureBeat, Nintendo's stock prices rose 9% since launch.
And it hasn't even completed it's global debut with parts of Asia, Europe and Americas still waiting. The anticipation, the hype, the excitement all funnelled down by word of mouth, and through news/life media. I suspect, their user acquisition has realitively minimal drive as social marketing is engineered by tradition word of mouth. I can't even see an "invite friends" module within the app (sorry guys and gals - no friends with benefits).
The application itself has done some good (and some bad) for the world. Stretching new-found friendship with locals thanks to it's real world location mapping and perks. It's introducing some minor exercise ( though, without full attention of users, and the full attention of local police).
The boom is massive. Companies like Verizon are offering a free battery with new signs ups monetising on the application, which gives boom to the powerbank industry as well. I'd be interested to see sales trends of powerbanks in the last week or so in comparison to the weeks prior.
I'm expecting their next move is potentially in-application advertising and Nintendo preparing for the next "wave" of releases to enhance user experience / increase playtime. However I suspect this won't happen for at least a year or two when in-app purchasing habits start to decline.
