Gotta Catch'em All - Pokemon GO will have more daily users than Twitter by Tuesday. (original article here)

Amazing right? With a highly provocative user acquisition (pulling on the childhood heartstrings of millennials) the app has gone mental here in Australia and internationally.

Here's something to think about real quick:

According to VentureBeat, Nintendo's stock prices rose 9% since launch.

And it hasn't even completed it's global debut with parts of Asia, Europe and Americas still waiting. The anticipation, the hype, the excitement all funnelled down by word of mouth, and through news/life media. I suspect, their user acquisition has realitively minimal drive as social marketing is engineered by tradition word of mouth. I can't even see an "invite friends" module within the app (sorry guys and gals - no friends with benefits).

The application itself has done some good (and some bad) for the world. Stretching new-found friendship with locals thanks to it's real world location mapping and perks. It's introducing some minor exercise ( though, without full attention of users, and the full attention of local police).

The boom is massive. Companies like Verizon are offering a free battery with new signs ups monetising on the application, which gives boom to the powerbank industry as well. I'd be interested to see sales trends of powerbanks in the last week or so in comparison to the weeks prior.

I'm expecting their next move is potentially in-application advertising and Nintendo preparing for the next "wave" of releases to enhance user experience / increase playtime. However I suspect this won't happen for at least a year or two when in-app purchasing habits start to decline.

Fun fact: Niantic raised $20 million from Google, Nintendo and Pokémon company in their 2015 Series A funding.

Hanke: Partly it allows us to do something like this with Nintendo and Pokémon, where they can invest and be a co-owner of the company and feel like they have a very tight relationship. They’re putting the number two video game franchise of all time in the hands of this project. It would be more difficult to do if they didn’t at least own a portion of the company. They feel like there’s a good alignment of interest.

I believe it. It's all over Reddit. Even cops are looking for Pokemon.

Sounds like Nintendo hit a home run with this.

The funny thing is, Niantic started off as a startup building procrastination for everyday people (Ingress). I think co-partnering with the likes of Nintendo was the best thing they could've done and in my opinion Nintendo needed this as well to pull them into 2016. Heaven knows how long the Wii system would last before it was removed off market altogether, the WiiU is being sold at a lost - like the Kindle.

Really brings it to the point that "content is king" and monetising on in-app purchases is key. The funnel is insane.

      Front end offer : free
      Upsells/in-app purchases : 20+

Amazing. I'm following closely on the growth of this, would totally be awesome to see when it "peaks" - though at this rate, I'm questioning if that's anytime soon.

Turns out, local (and by local I mean physically brick and mortar) businesses are monetizing on their locations being within close proximity to the "pokestops" where users reap benefits.

By investing small amounts in the form of "lures" they're digitally baiting users to come to their cafes, gyms (real gyms that is), restaurants, shopping villa etc..

Not a bad way to gain traction in "millennial marketing" (never thought I'd say this; but here's a cool infographic on millennial marketing)

My neighbor is all excited about Pokemons in the cemetary a block away from my house. No more Battlefield, Need For Speed, or Call of Duty for him for a while.

    Amazing growth....

More on the mobile game front....Kim made the cover of Forbes.

I drove by a park tonight and there's a bunch of people walking around in circles slowly looking at their phones. They reminded me of the walking dead

It's that thing where you have 2 paddles and a little square ball right. Quite innovative. I can see it catching on.

I always thought that Poke Mon was the reply given by one Scotsman to another when the first said "Hoots Mon"

          Scot 1: "Hoots Mon?"
          Scot 2: "Poké Mon, go"

I'm yet to check it out... My friends can't stop talking...err...I mean tweeting (and posting) about it! But the game sure broke the internet. I'm on Candy Crush rehab, so I'm averse to getting hooked to something new
