I let my driver's license expire due to super horrible lines at the DMV the past few months. Cops have it easy now, their license plate scanner alerts them to these things, and I got pulled over and ticketed. $54 fine, not too bad. I am 99% sure that there is no points involved with this infraction.

About a week later I get 4 letters in the mail from lawyers.

Are these lawyers going to get me out of this ticket for less than $54??

Isn't this like ambulance chasing?

Apparently it is public knowledge, but them acting on it seems like an invasion of my privacy. And why would I want a lawyer who would be out trying to get me out of a $54 ticket?

Lol, I reckon they have an automated system that just mail merges and sends out letters for marketing purposes.

But yeh, if that kinda stuff happened in the UK the public would start getting lairy about it.

Good marketing, they get you out of a $54.00 ticket for pennies or nothing. Who are you going to call the next time you need a Lawyer?

      Do you really believe that?

They would try to talk me into using their service for hundreds in order to get out of the ticket while using lies about how if I plead guilty to the ticket it would look worse and I am better off paying more.

You know that they aren't going to work for "pennies or nothing".

I wish I kept some of them so I could give you the numbers and let you see for yourself.

That's the entire point of the thread, I would NEVER call them. They proved themselves to be the bottom feeders of their trade. What's the difference between this and ambulance chasing?

When I was walking down the strip in Vegas one of those guys that stood outside of the casinos trying to get people to come in said to come inside and tried to entice me by saying that they had $2 filet mignon. I said to him "Why the **** would I want to eat a $2 filet mignon?" He didn't have an answer.

I don't know, but there are so many Lawyers out there so a lot of competition. If you become one you would either join a firm or consortium. Setting yourself up as solo these days would be difficult to survive I would think. A consortium could then employ people at flat rate salaries to do advertising and mailshots. Drumming up trade, visibility and contacts etc, which could take many forms. Eg: doing tv ad's offering services to people who have an illness due to using something in industry or something medical that has been recalled and lawsuit remuneration funds are available. They take a cut of the payout.

It looks like many of these frontmen Lawyers you see advertising on tv are just that. Given the response, their would be no way their offices could handle all the cases so the work would be distributed across a network of Lawyers.

Let me get this straight - you are blaming long lines for not renewing your drivers license - which could have been renewed ONLINE without any people in your way....and calling other people bottom feeders?

Those lawyers are sending out blanket offers from the police records of arrests/traffic citations....chances are had you called one, they would not have been interested in your case anyway. The reason some may be hand addressed is some lawyers have office workers do that work as part of their office tasks.

In some states, if you lose your license, you automatically have your auto insurance cancelled. If you then are pulled over or involved in an accident, the "too much trouble to get a license" could be worth a lawyer's time.

outside of the casinos trying to get people to come in said to come inside and tried to entice me by saying that they had $2 filet mignon
Because they wanted you (and your money) INSIDE the casino - Vegas was famous for years for cheap, great food to lure in customers. And the $2 flets were damned good from what I've heard. So were the huge $3 buffets back when....

It can't be renewed online. Right now you are being extremely ignorant, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Everyone needs to renew in person now, it's all over the news how the DMV lines are out around the block even before they open. If you get there after 10AM you will be told that you probably won't be seen by closing time.

But why am I justifying this to you? What does me not renewing my driver's license have to do with a business using shady tactics? Again, is ambulance chasing ok? Or is it what bottom feeders do?
