$$%%^&* Microsoft Updates!

I have an old version of Photoshop, that is just compatible with W7, but l made the mistake of updating, and now Photoshop is a mess, and it is virtually impossible to fix.

Microsoft has tried to update the same lines of code, that causes my tabs in cs2 to disappear and reappear, bridge also, frickin annoying, for some time, but l have always been able to get rid of it, til today.

I cannot do system restore, as these a***swipes, delete that when they download this.

Can't rely on RegClean restore points, (that have never disappeared til recently) but, yep, gone also.

The only options apart from using the online one, and having to wait 5 minutes to use a 300mg file, and p**** away $600 a year, or maxing out my credit card to buy the latest adobe suite, is to put up with the vanishing act version l have now.

Or figure out how and where this s**** is, in the registry?

The 4 security updates shown below with the numbers are the ones that are causing all of the damage, (thank goodness, l took a screenshot).

Appreciate some help!

Mainly how to go to the registry and find this crap and remove it, then never update again!

This update S*** has happened to several others, w10 is worse, too f*** bad if you have an old very expensive piece of critical software, anyway enough ranting.

I swear if l have to get a new Laptop, l will buy and install XP, No more updates but it works like a dream with cs2.

A new Laptop is cheaper than $2500 for Abode suite, which l don't need, or online which is clumsy, and p*** money away.

Help!

I can't give you specific help on your problem, but you might have better luck at one of the sites specializing in fixing MS fubars, run by tech geeks instead of marketers.

Buying a dedicated computer for running your old version of PS isn't the worst idea, either. I used to keep an old machine around for running things that didn't need an Internet connection. They can't hack what isn't connected...

A few other alternatives for you:

You can find promo codes for the CC (creative cloud) PS version - it will cost you $10/month, if I remember correctly. Yes, it's a monthly charge but you'll always have the latest software and it's a lot cheaper than buying new software (at least in the first few years).

Also, I've seen new "sealed box" auctions on eBay for PS CS4, 5, and 6 - generally the older the version the less you'll end up paying. Be sure to check out the seller first. (I've seen ending prices around $150 and less).

Another option - do you have any school kids at home? There are "educational" versions of PS available at a substantial discount.

    Good luck,

"but l made the mistake of updating"

Biggest mistake possible!!! ever. Newbies update. Because they're
young without ANY experience. I cannot stress that TOO loud.

"Mainly how to go to the registry and find this crap and remove it, then never update again!"

Ahh, now we're talking. Hit Start,In the search box, or Run window, type the following:

    regedit

    and then press Enter.

search for the strings you hate the most. Delete them.

You said it mate, my notebook runs on XP, my photoshop is an old V6, dreamweaver 8, first series still under macromedia at a time: This stuff never crashed, or got reinstalled, runs like
fort knox, untouchable. And those virus guys dont know how to program a virus for XP. lol.

Did you really expect a different answer to the same verbatim post you made elsewhere?

Yes he did, because on this forum your avatar is younger and you might be a little bit more sharper and with it.

Ok, not crazy about cloud, and $10 is better than $50, but CC, is crap, so l don't want to go there if at all possible. And l am not a student, so couldn't anyway.

Ebay, no, Adobe has recently gone on a witchhunt, so student versions are available, in Au, but cost $500-600.

And professional versions of CS2, or 3, are $1000 each and not available in AU.

    But thanks anyway.

Yep, l have already gone to the registry, and no trace, but someone mentioned win32k.sys was the folder that contained all of the nasty stuff, so good to know, if l decide to go that way.

Others have mentioned virtually linking my Laptop to my PC, XP, CS2, but it has some drawbacks.

Installing free graphics software in the hopes to clear it, or trying the registry again, are at the top of the list, at least at the moment.

Well, the other nameless one was quicker off the mark, but good, varied answers on both sides.

Shane, I don't know what you do with Photoshop, but have you looking into Photoshop Elements? I've never used it, but I read it does 90% of what Photoshop does but the latest version can be had for less than $100.

Interesting Dennis, l will look into it.

I also did a search on Ebay, au and us, and as l thought, only CC is available although CS5 was there for $1000, groan.

There was also a few CS3 Suite type programs being sold, but that was ill, ph, and indesign suite, just some other crap l wasn't interested in.

I think unless Dennis suggestion pans out, l will probably have to go to a computer store and get them to remove this s*** from the registry.

Then never update again, and hope that these a****h**** don't figure out another slimy way to install it.

Yes, looked into it, and unfortunately it strips of a lot of the features l need.

Get an older version of it, they are cheap. And they do the same thing basically.
    Only faster.

Why did Adobe become the market leader? Because even the first few versions
are brilliant, even today. Same goes for Dreamweaver, there is nothing you will
miss in the final versions of the first series.

The new versions always add new buttons, make it complicated to find the essential
ones and basically mess it up for the normal user. Look at windows, in XP i can do
things quickly, even win7 is not as efficient as XP, unless you have the addons to
resemble a XP user interface. Win7 introduced 'access violations' when you install
it again, then nothing works anymore, pure crap. When you have more than one HD
and more than one Win installed then it really gets complicated with access rights.
Who needs that? Only Admins, that work in a regular job, they have a new puzzle
to solve - on a daily basis.

Access violations, groan, more crap on top of crap!

From what l have read, there are ways around it, but who wants that geek nightmare.

I have emailed a computer expert, so time will tell if it can be removed from the registry without, wrecking the OS.

But yeah, if you want the defination of a****h***** look up Microsoft.

W7, costs $50, so not that expensive.

The backup plan is buy a second hand Toshiba, i5 for $200, so a lot faster than mine one, and cheaper than $1100, new.

It has W7, but l won't update that satanical OS again,

I have updated W7 for more than a year, and so far it has...

      • reduced sound levels on ALL videos played, (including YT). I have had to install a third party one, to get it back to normal.

      • Tried to mess up Word, 2003, but that was tolerable.

      • Tried to Nobble HD playback on all video players except their one, But the sound is crap on theirs, another update?

      • And nobbled CS2, (Adobe probably threw the CEO's a big party for that one)?

Yes, Micrsoft, screw Windows users, and rake it in.

Or try to, this crap won't work on me though, grrrr.

I will look into CS1, George, another good idea, well, hopefully?
