This makes me sick!

I'm watching the CNN coverage of Hurricane Ike damage in Texas.

It looks so much like our Coast in Mississippi did after Katrina - and I know from experience now how long it takes to recover from destruction like this. We're still working on it here and some people will never recover from losses like this.

My heart goes out to them.

  • Yes it is really upsetting, Kay.

The only thing we can be grateful for is it was Cat 2. It really looked like it was going to be Cat 3 and was absolutely huge.

It killed people in multiple states - even Missouri!

They still don't know about how many lives were lost in Galveston - there are thousands still unaccounted for.

My prayers are with all those that are affected by 'Mother Nature' - what a witch she can be!
  • It is sad and tragic. My condolences goes out for them. We should be more kind to mother nature now that she is paying back.
  • I was surprised to learn a hurricane in texas could have effects so far away.

I wonder how long it will take to get the Galveston area repaired. Hurricanes are just awful.
  • The Red Cross disaster relief fund ran out of money. Literally. They borrowed from banks to be able to get the food and beds set up in Texas. If you can spare it, they'd be a good organization to donate to right now.
  • I was watching some of the news too, what a shame.

    • Yes, my family live there. They weren't one of the areas that were told to evalucate, but they are left without electricity for up to 4 weeks. That sucks.

  • At least we have better methods to predict the pathways, communicate
relevent info and make STRONG recomendations for people to duck. This helps
limit deaths and injuries unlike the times when storms struck almost without
warning. Read accounts of the 1900 Galveston hurricane sometime and imagine
that there was no support structure for survivors back then either.
