So we had gift time and a very special breakfast - watched the new "Magnificent Seven" - and then watched some "drone racing".

If ever I have seen a "nerd sport" - that would be it! One fellow was saying " how exciting" the drone racing is - and talking about his "adrenaline rush" and the "risk taking".....

Sitting in a chair with fancy headset/helmet thingies on...racing drones inside a building....fun, yes. Extreme sport...not so much.

10 minutes of it and I was done....

Are they building their own drones or just buying drones that everyone else can buy?

The Drone Racing League | The Premier Drone Racing League.

Don't know what the drone requirements are - the part I saw had drones that looked alike except for colored lights on them...

I do know there are ads for 'racing drones' - so guess it may be the next big things in sports...or geekville. Not really sure which....maybe both?

I found it bored me even faster than football - and that's saying something...

It doesn't look like they're building anything.

It's more like a video game. I could see the US military using it as a recruiting event.

Movie was GOOD - lots of action - lots of bang bang shoot 'em up - Denzel was excellent. I liked it..fast action and some funny parts, too.

Poor thing, but l didn't fare much better with watching the Beatles history,...reasonably interesting seeing rare footage of a live gig, and such, but after an hour, especially after a big dinner, l couldn't stay awake.

Watched Die Hard again, have to with Christmas and all that.

I have seen some stories about drone racing and saw an event or two. Not something I would invest hours in watching, but it is no worse than Nascar, which might be the dumbest "sport" on the planet.

What about it? It's a creative use someone found for drones.

It has nothing to do with drone racing though, so I have no idea what you are asking or what your point is.

Broke in my 75" 4K Sony with 18 hours of "House of Cards." I totally hate to agree with the masses, but this might be the best TV show I have even seen. I'm only a few episodes into season two, but so far I couldn't describe a single minute of it as slow or boring. I haven't dozed-off, once.

A few more days of binge-watching this and then I'll move on to "Breaking Bad' which I have not seen a single minute of.

Drones? Good for target practice, but not much else.

      Love House of Cards.

I'll be honest, wasn't that impressed with Breaking Bad. It's good. Just didn't think it was the amazing masterpiece so many others seemed to think it was.

I got into it late though, so maybe all the hype had created unrealistic expectations. We actually started watching it, got 3 episodes in, and dropped it. Didn't go back to it until like a year or two later.

        Hi Mike,

I'm already prepared for the fact that I don't think Breaking Bad will hold my attention for very long. Drug stories generally bore me to tears. It's rare that they can hold a candle to my own life experiences, regardless of how extreme they might be. :-)

I'd like to recommend a show that no one is talking about. It's called "Good Behavior." It's on TNT and I believe that tomorrow night is the 8th episode of season 1. I caught it quite by accident, 10 minutes into the first episode with flipping channels. I didn't recognize the actress straight-off, as in the story she was wearing a wig, but the voice grabbed me. I recognized it, but I couldn't place where from.

Finally, after losing the wig I realized who it was and was floored. Depending on your past viewing choices, you may or may not know her, but her acting is stellar. Keep in mind she's British and there is no hint of an accent.

I watched the first 5 episodes which were great. After watching episode 6 I thought the best was behind them, but then episode 7 was a stunning piece that had me mesmerized from start to finish. One of the best single hours of TV that I have ever seen. I needed a drink when it was over. lol

Check out the first episode On-Demand. You'll know right away if it's your cup of tea. I rarely recommend anything to anyone, so take that into consideration. :-)

        Cheers,

        Frank

Just discovered that Good Behavior is available on Aussie streaming service Stan. New episodes are released within an hour or two of them being broadcast in the US. Have added it to my list, and will watch it all when the season ends.

I'm no longer a fan of waiting a week for another episode of a show to be released, and prefer to binge on an entire season. I'm currently working my way through every episode of Seinfeld (also on Stan) - up to s9 with only a few more episodes to go. (I should add that it's taken me about 3 weeks to get this far on it.).

Oh, and BTW, the actress you're referring to is Michelle Dockery who was also in Downton Abbey.

Stan? Any better than Netflix, apart from them releasing earlier?

I am going through all of Blakes Seven myself, l always thought that Orac, was pretty cool, and some of the episodes.

But every planet they land on looks the same.

I really couldn't pick a favourite between the two. There's some great stuff on both (and there's a lot of crap on both as well). Stan is slightly more expensive than Netflix ($10 a month compared to NF's $8.99 a month) if you only watch on one device, but it works out cheaper if you want to watch it on multiple devices. Stan allows viewing on up to four devices (TV, PC, tablet, phone) in its fee, whereas Netflix charges extra for more devices.

I have enough stuff loaded onto their "my list" on both platforms to enable me to avoid free to air TV for years to come, even without the libraries of both being added to on a daily basis.

I'll assume that your a Star Trek fan, so can inform you that Stan has EVERY episode of EVERY Star Trek TV show ever released (the original 60's show, Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Enterprise and Voyager). Not quite my cup of tea, but obviously there are a lot of fans of these shows.

Both Stan and Netflix allow you to join for a month for free, so check them out. Binge out on as much as you can for a month and then cancel if you want.

That's what I intended to do with Stan when I joined. It's the only outlet in Australia that shows Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul (see above). As a fan of BBad, I wanted to watch the new series. I waited until the last episode of the first season had been released and then joined for what I thought was going to be for the free month only. After I'd watched every episode of BCSaul, I intended to cancel. After seeing how much other stuff they had available I let it run and am still a member. About a month or so after that NF launched in Australia and I joined that as soon as it was available. Still a happy subscriber to both services.

I really only watch the Block, and Survivor, (US) on FTA, and a rare movie that they haven't played to death, (not many of those left).

At this time of year especially l scan the tv guide for any decent movie, but most of the time, apart from the before mentioned series, and MASH of course, leave the tv off.

My Mother has Netflix, and Freeview, which is a piece of s***t most of the time, but on rare occasions, it isn't.

Yep Star Trek, seen then all to many times, but l could sit through the original ones again, although my Mother has most of them.

I will look into Stan, thanks.

I love House Of Cards as well, although it's not as good as the original British show on which it's based. Ian Richardson's Francis Urquhart is a more lovable rogue than Kevin Spacey's Frank Underwood, and makes better use of the "breaking the 4th wall". It's very dated of course being from the early 90's, however the story arc takes us through a character development from lovable rogue who we secretly cheer for, to arch-villain who we want dead.

Interestingly that's a similar character arc to Walter White in Breaking Bad. He starts as someone we sympathise with, and gradually becomes more evil as each season progresses. Despite this, we're still cheering him on right up until the last 5 or six episodes when we want him to die a horrible death as well.

Stick with Breaking Bad though as it really doesn't get going until the end of the 2nd season. Up till then it's more of a slow boil. Bryan Cranston as White, Aaron Paul as his long suffering sidekick Jessie, Bob Odenkirk as sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman and Jonathon Banks as Mike thoroughly deserve the accolades they've received. In fact every actor in it nails their characters so well that its impossible to imagine anyone else in their place.

It's still in its infancy, but I actually have enjoyed Better Call Saul more than Breaking Bad so far. I did not think that would be the case. When I heard about the planned spin-off, I thought it sounded like a terrible idea.

Loving BCSaul as well. I always thought that Saul, Mike and Gus Fring had backstories that could've been explored more in BBad. So far they've covered Saul (Jimmy) and Mike, and if I'm reading the hints dropped during s2 of BCS correctly, Gus is going to become prominent in s3.

Looking forward to its return in a couple of months.

Yes. I did not catch it at the time, but the first letter of the episode titles of season 2 spell "Fring is Back" jumbled up.

So yep. He will be making an appearance in season 3 it appears.
