I have an old ThinkPad laptop with Windows 7 installed. Never used it for a while and want to access it today to install a Windows only software. Tried a few passwords I thought it was correct but without any luck.

is it possible to reset the password without deleting any file on that laptop? I am not a tech savvy so any suggestion would be much appreciated.

Have you ever considered contacting the support desk for your product? They would be better able to help you, wouldn't you think?

Pick one. If it doesn't work, pick another one.

You have to start somewhere by actually starting.

At a marketing forum instead of a tech forum? I would imagine your laptop will remain locked for quite a while

  • Hello,
You can try installing a fresh copy of windows only if you don't have any important data on the windows directory. But you can recover your password by going through the safe mode session and try changing the password with administrator privileges.

    Thanks,

Well if you have another functional PC or got a friend or relative that have one that could lend to you, you may take out your laptops HDD, use an external USB HDD (it's around $10 - $15) enclosure and copy your files to another storage. Once you're sure the data you need is copied and secured, put back your HDD to your laptop and reformat it as you please.
