How do Most People View This Forum?

Personally I prefer "classic" view, but my browser defaults to "modern" (which I don't like as much). Am I behind the times, or just doing what everybody else is doing?

I agree completely. If I could not get 'classic' view I would leave the forum entirely.

What is the "classic" view, is the difference between the two just personal preference?

The one that works properly is the classic view.

The one that hides features is the feed view.

That was a major faux pau on the forums part, for sure.

At the top of the page you see your profile name
if you hover over your profile name you will see

      - Update profile
      -Setting
      -help and support
      -logout

and under that you will see "View XXXXX"

if it say View Classic it mean that you are already in modern style

I prefer the classic view as well.

If you want to try it out, hover the mouse over your nickname, and at the bottom there is a yellow button that says "View Classic".

Tim, one of the forum's admins, lays out the reasons for the modern view pretty well in a thread in the suggestions section: http://www.warriorforum.com/suggesti...l#post11036478

To summarize, the "feed" version allows the developers to experiment more easily with updates and modifications in the background without disrupting the viewing for members. Apparently there are also SEO advantages and mobile user benefits for adopting the modern view.

An interesting point was that the classic view seems to be the preference for longer-standing members, and - perhaps more pertinently - members who tend to contribute more to the debates.

In my opinion, that isn't simply a reactionary stance by the old guard, but a reflection of the fact that a platform for considered discussion is best delivered in a traditional forum style, rather than a "Reddit"- type feed system.

I think a lot of newer members are defaulted to the "Modern" feed view and do not even know about the classic view. I would imagine once they learn about it and it's benefits, i.e. signatures, they make the switch.

And as I mentioned in a thread I started in the suggestion forum, if you are participating in the modern feed view and reply directly to someone it does not bode well in the classic view. In the feed view it shows your comment indented right below the person you are replying to but in the classic view it shows as just another post, and if there is a lot of conversation going on you do not know who the poster is referencing so you end up with a lot of members commenting that the poster should use the quote feature.

Forum as experiment rather than destination?

    Interesting thought.

Hi, I've noticed that some data doesn't display in the modern layout. So sometimes I switch to the classic one if I need to. However, I prefer the modern layout for posting and replying.

I've wondered how new members find the classic version if signups are coming through the 'feed view'. When the moved the link to 'view Classic' from the toolbar to to a drop down under my forum name...I couldn't find it.

I prefer the modern layout for posting and replying.
You've had lots of of posts in the past couple of days - many of them are in old threads bumped by other new new members. I'm trying to understand how new members are FINDING all these old threads if they are in the 'feed view". What am I missing? Thanks.

I mostly use modern view. I think it is still a work in progress but I am glad the people behind this are doing something to improve their site. But then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

In all due respect, I think it is totally user "unfriendly". Just a sore looking excuse for a Forum, imho.

I truly hope FL can see this and go back to sticking with the Classic on a permanent basis

Classic. I come here to read forum posts not blog posts. The Modern one looks like blog posts. The Classic one looks like a forum. I changed my settings to Classic.

Just hover over your user name in the upper right of the screen. A drop-down menu should appear. At the bottom of the drop-down menu show, "View Classic". Click on that and, "Voila!", the classic view reappears.

Definitely the classic for me. Modern seems too minimalist IMHO. If it were the only option I would definitely still use it but so glad they gave us options.
