Watching Live T.V. thru Internet

My tv box, along with everyone else who has gotten it thru Radio Shack or else where blows chunks.

A so-called digital tv antennae, to use with it, I've heard, has mixed results.

Can watch some tv channels with no problem but UPN is a hit and miss and Fox signal is just too weak, usually can't get it at all.

Too many horror stories to consider cable.

And satellite tv, well, I am not going for it, feel like a sheep being corralled when analog tv was free, NOW, if you want to watch it, you have to pay for some service, screw that, it ain't that serious, don't watch much anyhow.

Heard Verizon Fios ain't that much better than cable for both product and service issues.

Most Google results about watching "live tv over the internet" is choke full of ads, foreign tv shows, and mostly "old" espisodes, which, is good, if you don't want to buy or rent the full season dvd, saving you some cash.

So is anyone out there got the best "Live T.V. over the Internet" system, software or hardware, or is there really NO such thing as LIVE tv over internet, just re-run tv and/or cable shows or foreign shows?

I've seen one ad where it mentions a one time fee ($40) to download software that would get you 9,000 channels of live tv.

So who's got the best package of Internet speed, satellite channels, "LIVE" T.V. shows and phone in cyberworld?

One persons super great experience with a company or package is someone else's horrible nightmare.

Yes, I have it. It works very well. Real Player and MS media player are required. Keep in mind most of the world doesn't speak English, still it can be very entertaining and extremely useful if you are interested in learning languages and want to hear them in everyday use. Japanese TV is what I got it for.

            EDIT

I just tried a freeware program called Readon Player, it is fantastic! Forget the above, this is free and has free movies and sports as well.

The download link is at the bottom of the page. It's a zip.

I use to watch a few shows (not-live) on sites like Hulu and Watchtvsitcoms.com. Watchtvsitcoms.com was good, but it was recently pulled offline. Oh well.

Great idea for using online TV to learn a foreign language, I have been learning French and online TV like that would definitely be a great resource.

As far as watching live TV online, I use Justin.TV for sports that I don't get locally and it usually works really well. I'm sure you could find other programming there as well.

Damn, from the looks of it, the only alternative to the "Digital t.v. box", which signal sucks on some channels, is either cable or dish.

Those are "recurring" monthly charges I am going to do without, but thanks for the feedback.

A nice thread on the frustration of viewing Digital T.V., thought I was alone.

My favorite quote of the thread:

"But in Europe they use a different Digital TV standard. It is far more tolerant to weak signal conditions, because it was tested in real-world conditions. The American Standard as (1) Chosen specifically to be incompatable with the rest of the world (2) Tested ONLY in the lab, under SIMULTATED conditions (3) has no tolerence to weak signals (4) was chosen because the company who holds the patents on it was politically connected. It was actually in the plan: people in rural areas were expected to get satellite dishes. Of course EVERYBODY can afford to pay $100.00 a month for dish. Or at least those people who contribute to politicians. Those who are poor should just hurry up and die, and decrease the surplus population."

        Entertaining rest of the thread:
