The Hidden Dangers of Makeup and Shampoo

Another example of the FDA being asleep at the wheel....

There's more to your makeup than meets the eye. New research shows that health-related complaints about cosmetic products like shampoo and makeup are at an all-time high since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began keeping track more than a decade ago.

That's concerning, because when cosmetic products cause health issues, addressing the problem--or even getting a potentially unsafe product off the market--isn't a simple process. Currently, cosmetic manufacturers have no legal obligation to report health problems from their products to the FDA. Cosmetics also do not need to go through a pre-market approval process before they are sold in stores, and regulators do not assess the safety and effectiveness of the claims on the products. Instead, people and doctors are asked to report any health complications to the FDA's database (called the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition's Adverse Event Reporting System, or CFSAN). If the FDA sees any increases that warrant concern, they can investigate.
So.... They wait until people are sick or dying to start investigating....

Why on earth would they lump 'tattoos' in with hair and skin care products????

396 'events' per year...but how many were for 'tattoos' - and how many MILLIONS use these makeup and shampoo products daily?

"This isn't designed to be alarmist,"
    Yes, I think it is...

      Yes, I think it is...
That aspect you're missing..... These products are not tested and deemed "safe." The only way is "incidents" reported is by consumers.....

      Think logically....

When a women is diagnosed with cancer or a baby becomes "suddenly ill," how many people are even going to ponder their cosmetics, lotions or shampoo caused it and report it?

I'm betting one in a million....

I'd venture to guess the remaining 999,999 would assume these products have been tested for safety... So, they cannot be causing the issue. They're totally clueless.... They don't know these products and their ingredients have never been tested and deemed "safe."

In the end, everyone can choose what to use....

Yes, l make my own conditioner, and buy natural tee tree oil shampoo, since everything else, has a long line of long worded chemicals on them.

As for the rest drug company's virtually run the medical profession, and in their eyes, as long as their bottom line is healthy, they are happy.

Doesn't explain why they lump 'tattoos' in with makeup and shampoo....not logical to me.

Would anyone be surprised to learn that injecting inks into your skin might be a health risk? Not to mention use of needles? What do the "event" numbers look like without using tattoos? My guess is...pretty much eventless. But just my thoughts on it.

    I'm just fooling around....

SLS is possibly the most dangerous ingredient a consumer can find in most shampoos. So potent is SLS, studies have linked it to serious skin and scalp irritation and disease, hair loss and damage and the ability of the chemical to create nitrate compounds which have been linked to cancer and cell damage.

I've battled canker sores in my mouth off and on for as long as I can remember. I always chalked it up to stress, and then about 6 months ago I happened upon information about SLS free toothpaste. I bought the Verve brand on Amazon, and no more canker sores.

Now, I'm not one that demonizes all chemicals as if somehow all things natural are safe and I think so much of the messaging is simply fear based marketing, but in this case I did see a difference that was notable. I'm not a fan of demonizing industries or anything non-organic though. It almosy makes me not want to share what I found with the toothpaste because it feeds the crazy.

One thing you need to keep in mind....

The tens of thousands of chemicals in toothpaste, hair gel, cosmetics, cleaning solutions, building materials and many others have never been tested for safety... They were "grandfathered" in.....

I'd bet my life the vast majority of US citizens don't know this fact. If they did, they'd demand those products be pulled from the shelves immediately and all the ingredients tested for safety... especially if you educate them about the explosion of diseases and "conditions" we've seen in the past few decades.

I'd strongly suggest everyone watch The Human Experiment. Watch it on Netflix. Buy it from Amazon. Borrow it from your Library. If your Library doesn't have it, ask a Librarian if they have a program that allows you to request it from another Library.

In the movie, one of the most striking stories was about a woman who worked for a house cleaning company who was constantly struggling with health issues. Once she began cleaning homes with only natural cleaners, her health issues disappeared. Was she "crazy?" Were the toxic cleaners she was working with every day making her sick? I believe the later.

After watching it, you can decide if you want you and your loved ones to be exposed to products with toxic ingredients..... many of which are not disclosed to the buyer because there is no legal requirement to disclose all the ingredients.

I would be hard pressed to call it "crazy" to want to move away from things with unknown ingredients (like cosmetics) or known ingredients (like toothpaste) that are toxic. It is just common sense. Wouldn't you, as a loving and caring person, encourage your wife, your children and your friends to use "safer" products? Is this "crazy?"

These corporations are counting on the sheep following the herd... and never asking questions about the safety of their products. This formula has worked awesomely well for them... just like the tobacco industry. They've fattened their bottom line while some of their customers have annoying reactions.... and others are slowly being poisoned to death by their products.

When it comes up in conversation, I share what I've learned and my concerns about toxic products. I encourage people to watch The Human Experiment. I could care less about "sheeple" thinking I'm "crazy." It is my duty to point them in the right direction. They need to take it from there.
