But, considering the age of the song, and the drastic change in style I just thought that, for most, it was long-forgotten. If even remembered at all. Seems I have a habit of getting off the "obscurity" thing. But, you have to admit, the video is pretty obscure...right?

people even heard of the Moody Blues and if so, knew about their incarnation before they were a prog rock band.

stuff. ![]() The song hit # 3 in the UK and # 10 in the US, which classifies it as a substantial hit. But yeah, it was a great song from a great year in music...the one that gave us the Grammy Award winning "Bridge Over Troubled Water"...definitely NOT obscure. ![]()

Here's a kickass band from Finland that had a definite influence on Nirvana (musically) and Guns n Roses (sartorially). |

Here's one from "The fastest Guitar in the South", legendary session man Travis Wammack. Had the pleasure of seeing him perform and meeting him a few years back -- class act all the way. this is a fun one! |

Wouldn't be surprised if they were inspired by the Bee Gees as was a group that was actually produced by the Bee Gees, Tin Tin. And here they are with "Toast And Marmalade For Tea" a total flop in the US and the UK. Don't know about elsewhere though. |

Hard for me to call anything by Roy Buchanan "obscure", but I never heard these songs on pop radio: |

Here's another one from Tin Tin from 1971. This one is even more obscure than the one above. "She Said Ride" Oh, and technically, their stuff was only produced by Maurice, but it's still the Bee Gees. |

Gotta love a band so committed to their angle of being from outer space that all their stage banter is in an alien language. One of the strangest -- and coolest -- bands to come out of LA in the 70s.... |

Here's a guy who represents all that's good in rock and roll. He bends steel bars with his teeth, blows up water bottles and bursts them and sings about slaying demons and dragons. I'd like to see Vampire Weekend do any of the above. Kneel before the mighty Thor! |

If you're a punk fan, then these guys won't be obscure to you, as they're one of the absolute bedrock bands of the genre. Alas, to the rest of the world, they're largely unknown. After AC/DC, they are the greatest band ever to come outta Australia.... Two fun Radio Birdman facts: * They were formed in Australia by an ex-pat Yank, Deniz Tek. According to Wikipedia "Deniz Tek is a trained ER doctor and navy pilot who currently splits his time working in ER departments in hospitals in NSW, Australia and Montana in the US while managing to fit in touring with a number of different Rock and Roll outfits during his vacations." There's a dude who clearly knows a thing or two about time management. * their name comes from a mishearing of the lyric "Radio burnin' up above" from the Stooges song "1970". They heard it as "Radio Birdman up above" |

Sweden is responsible for more cool rock and roll in the last 15 years than any other country. The Hives, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Sahara Hotnights -- it goes on and on. Here are the guys who started EVERYTHING in that country. they are way high on my list of bands I haven't seen yet but really, really hope to. |

An argument can be made that these guys aren't obscure, but I don't care -- I'm goin' to bed and I'm goin' out blazin'. This is one of my top 5 bands ever -- an American rock and roll powerhouse that responded to the british invasion with bared teeth and an ungodly howl. After 40 years away, they have miraculously returned, to accept the accolades they so richly deserve. And holy cow, do they still rock like a mother. Here's they are -- older, grayer and still as righteous as the day is long. |

Frank Zappa raised the question "Does humour belong in music?" The Stan Arnold Combo obviously believe so. You gotta love a song with a chorus that goes: Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya like rock and roll, Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya like rock and roll, Do ya, do ya, do ya, do ya like rock and roll, Cause we do. Priceless. |

My deepest and sincerest thank you's to Kurt for coming up with Yanni in the Music Game Thread that got me to think of this long lost and forgotten group. The story of how they emerged from an earlier incarnation or a band that soon morphed into yet another band is heart wrenching if you've been a follower of any of these people, including Keith Relf who died way too young. If you never listened to the original Renaissance or this band, Illusion, please take a moment out of your day to do so. You won't be sorry. Here with one of their greatest tunes...Illusion and "Candles Are Burning" |

of anything got any real notice. And of course when Rafferty made it big with Bakers Street, well, they played that to death to the point where I can just about listen to his voice anymore, which is sad because Steelers Wheel was a very underrated band. I think they played Bakers Street just about every 10 minutes if you count all the top 40 radio stations we had in NY at the time. It was maddening.

An amazing song by an amazing artist in an amazing video. I always thought I heard some some Roy Wood and/or Jeff Lynne influence in this tune. After listening today, I'm sure of it. A song you don't hear a lot, if at all, from "Bark At The Moon"...Ozzy and "So Tired" |

My guess is they're likely to be fairly obscure to the vast majority of persons under the age of 30. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to contribute to this thread, as it is quite an enlightening experience. I've learned quite a lot from it and enjoyed it immensely! |

This was a mild "hit" for Jay Furgeson (at the time Jo Jo Gunne) in 1972. I think it hit the top 40 for a couple of weeks but that was it. Haven't heard this tune on the radio since. The Song - "Run Run Run" |
