I know Steven and I disagree a lot on newer music. I can't tell you a darn thing about this band except some how I got this tune on my itunes ( it must have been a free download or something) , but I think it really rocks.

Here's one from 1976 that got some airplay back then but has since long
disappeared into obscurity.

The Group - Smokie
The Song - "Living Next Door To Alice"

Good instrumentation. Somewhere between disco and Musac. Kind of put me to sleep (which can be nice sometimes).

You all remember Michael Murphy's big hit "Wildfire". I mean they played it
to death when it came out.

Well, this song of his wasn't such a big hit and IMO, much better.

The Song - "Carolina In The Pines"

Here's a 1974 remake of an old standard, I think from the 40s.

The Singer - Lou Christie
The Song - "Beyond The Blue Horizon"

One of my favorite Todd Rundgren songs and it didn't even crack the top 40.

The Song - "A Dream Goes On Forever"

Not really obscure I guess, but one of the best songs ever written IMHO.

YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.
IMO, it qualifies. It wasn't a big hit and nobody plays it anymore...at least
not around these parts.

Heck, it just about broke the Billboard top 100. And even "So Very Hard To
Go" which was a relatively big song in comparison, is obscure. It just broke
the top 20 but hasn't been played since except on really hard core R&B
stations. Which is a shame because it was a damn good song from 1973.

I think Tower is another one of those bands that had a bigger following among musicians then the general public. I still have one of their CD's that I play a lot. They played an Alive at 5 concert here in Albany last year that I missed Hopefully they'll be back.

Before Meatloaf (Bat Out Of Hell) was Meatloaf, he did this song with Stoney
on Rare Earth records. Notice how the sound is so much like the band
Rare Earth who had some great songs.

Hey all,

Some SugarLoaf? Green Eyed Lady?

According to Billboard Magazine, this song entered the Top 40 on 9/19/1970 and rolled the Top 40 charts for 12 weeks, peaking at number 3.

It wasn't obscure but, to many on this thread, I'll bet it is now.

I remember buying the 45. I think it was on Dunhill but I'm not sure. The
record quality was terrible and I couldn't get it to play on my turntable
without skipping.

Granted, my turntable cost like 15 bucks at the time, but still.

I honestly don't miss vinyl.

All I can say is, what a terribly underrated group. I'm going to be sharing a
lot of their songs over the coming days starting with this one.

From The Alan Parsons Project

Yeah, you're probably right. Just a bunch of cranky old men on this thread. Probably have to head on over to the RAP Obscurity thread and
play that leonard cohen song for them. It's kinda' rappy.

I guess I'm just gonna' have to really dig deep and see what I can come up with.

Ok,

A group that everyone in my neck of the woods found particularly excellent but got no national exposure because they wouldn't tour.

I remember buying this album in the cut out rack (yeah, you old geisers know what a cut out rack is, right?) down at Alwilk records in Elizabeth NJ.

Bought it just 'cause of the cover. My oh My, was I pleasantly surprised

here's another from that same album

Remember it well because of the cover. (The cover in the Fireball Express vidoe has a "promotional copy, not for resale" sticker on it.)

Steven,

Just a thought. Are we getting near the point of no return with this thread? I'm thinking of that forum glitch that zaps threads - is it after 30 pages?

It would be a shame to see all these posts disappear. Maybe we should think about retiring the thread or migrating to a 'Son of Rock & Roll Obscurity' thread.

What do you reckon?

Frank. it's around 40 pages. I'm going to post a note around page 38 or
so to stop posting here and request the mods to close it. I'll then open
another thread and point a link to this one for anybody who wants to
view older entries.

Don't worry, I've got everything under control.

Here's a Hollies tune from 1973 that didn't make much of a dent in the
charts.

The Song - "Magic Woman Touch"

A very rare Bee Gees tune and one of their best ever.

Here's my favorite song from the new Jukebox The Ghost CD "Everything
Under The Sun"

The Beatles influence is unmistakable.

The Song - "Mistletoe"
