In 1969, Fleetwood Mac adopted a pseudonym for the B-Side of their "Man Of The World" single. The song is a rockabilly-style number that was also, incidently, a minor hit some ten years later for the Scottish punk band "The Rezillos". This is "Earl Vince & The Valiants" with "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite": Frank |

No offense Steven, but.. I've been run down the road for not posting obscure music... This definitely ain't obscue. 1 hit wonder, yes. Not obscure. That's up there with.. and... Like I said in an earlier post, "one man's ceiling". Who's to say what's obscure? Is this obscure? It's The Beatles for crying outloud! But, how many people are familiar with it? It's GREAT! But, it was a "B" side.

The founder of this band died in a car accident in the wee hours of the morning about a block from my house several years back and in their grief the band disbanded....until about 2 or 3 years ago when remaining members decided it was time to carry on what Chris had started.... So, they're not a real old band but, to probably 99.9% of you they are obscure. And they write some great, original tunes. Let's dig some 'Worms.... |

Thanks, I was going to ask the same thing.:confused::confused: ** EDIT ** I'm going to guess he posted the wrong video because Lean On Me by Bill Whithers was not a Beatles B side. In fact, it was one of the biggest hits of the early 70s. Okay, I'm so confused I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone. Oh wait...that was the 50s. |

This was the Beatles song that was supposed to be there. My point was "Ride Captain Ride" was hardly obscure. |

Please accept my apology. I would offer an excuse, but there is none. Don't know why I thought that Steven made that post. Perhaps his was the last post made and was what showed in the forum menu. And, that was post was the first one I saw. Don't know. |

Actually, 'Blues Image - Ride Captain Ride' is pretty obscure, if not completely unknown, to anyone outside the US or Canada. Frank |

This is another group that my daughter got me hooked on. They're an unusual group in that they have many different sounds...sometimes power pop, sometimes metal, sometimes, well, you get the idea. You should hear these guys do death metal. It's nothing like this song. Anyway, the group is AFI. This song, one that did get some airplay, "Silver and Cold" One of their lesser obscure tunes but by no means a monster hit. They're a definite cult band. Thank you Chrissy. |

Here's a song that was only a hit in the UK (1966) and is probably unknown to most outside. However, the band changed their name a few years later and became "The Flying Machine", under which moniker they scored a US hit with "Smile A Little Smile". This is their first incarnation - notice the classic pop band line-up of: Drums, Bass, Lead, Rhythm and...er Autoharp  I give you: Pinkerton's Assorted Colours with Mirror Mirror : Frank |

Incidentally, to my ears, they ripped off chunks of the melody of "Smile" from the Marmalade's "Baby Make It Soon" - the song they actually covered on the B-side. Frank

Here's another side to Phil Collins which qualifies as obscure - Brand X. Fairly poor quality video and audio, however the music still comes across. From the UK's Old Grey Whistle Test show. |

Here's another one from Flogging Molly. The Song - "Devil's Dance Floor" Just found this one today. Really into them since my daughter introduced them to me. ** EDIT ** Correction. I actually heard Flogging Molly on my local station WRXP one day when they were doing the Punk Trunk and played Salty Dog. There was another group that sounds like them that my daughter introduced me to and now I can't think of their name. If anybody knows, please let me know. LOL |

Just been introduced to this mob Ayreon, and am instantly hooked. This mob, along with Porcupine Tree will see Prog Rock continue to thrive. This track features a didgeridoo intro segueing into a Celtic folk riff before turning on the metal, and lyrics that would fit nicely on any Green Day album. If that doesn't pique your interest then #$%^ off and stick with your top 40 crap. From "The Human Equation" album: "Day 16 - Loser" I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that "The Human Equation" is the best album of this century (so far). More music on one album than most bands pack into a career. Absolutely brilliant. Some more from T.H.E. - "Day 11 - Love" |

Along with my love of prog-rock (ie the serious end of the spectrum), I also love stuff which resides at the silly end as well. Here's one that will bring a smile to your face, especially the gals. Caution though it contains "Adult Themes" Garfunkel and Oates performing "My Self Esteem Isn't Low Enough To Date You". Enjoy. |

Yeah. I nearly posted "Venus". Great song. Back in 1977, many British music pundits were placing Willy in the same vocal bracket as Springsteen and Southside Johnny. With some justification, IMO. Another vocalist usually mentioned in the same breath around that time was this chap: Here's Graham Parker & The Rumour with "Hey Lord, Don't Ask Me Questions" Frank |

Graham Parker-awesome! With my friends at the time we considered him one of "The 3"- Elvis Costello,Nick Lowe and Graham Parker. They were cranking out music that was unbelievable at the time. And Jonb,Squeezing Out Sparks, is one of my desert island albums. Don't tell anybody, but this song can still bring tears to my eyes. |

Steven, You or some of the others will have to decide if this is obscure or not. Growing up only my riend that turned me onto them and myself had ever heard of The Michael Stanley band. Note, Apparently he speaks over the song a bit a minute or two into it,but its still rock n roll to me. |
