From 1973...A long forgotten Jethro Tull song. The single version of this
hit number 80 on the Billboard Charts. Yes, there was a single.

The Song - "A Passion Play"

YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.
Not sure if this qualifies as obscure or not, but it's my favorite Tull song, and from even longer ago, 1970...

Kurt, it more than qualifies. I haven't heard this song on the radio in over
30 years

To Cry You A Song is one of my favorite Tull songs and Benefit is one of my favorite Tull Albums.
Of course, all the early Tull qualifies as my fvorite Tull :-)
Heres one form the same time frame, but a different album.

And of course, thats one of the greatest song titles ever, but the song is just as good!

Life is so funny.

In 1974 when this album first came out, it was played to death, and this
song especially...not that I ever got tired of it.

Today?...You'd have to dig to the center of nowhere to find anybody who
plays this anymore...and it's a crying shame.

Another one from Jethro Tull, from the classic album "War Child"...

"The Third Hoorah."

The year was 1973...it was summer.

This song made it as high as 21 on the Billboard charts and did get some
airplay back then. But today, well, I don't remember the last time I heard
this on the radio.

The Artist - Bobby Goldsboro
The Song - Summer (The First Time)

When Stills sings in Spanish at the end I once turned to a friend and said "I wish I knew what he was saying".
He said "I don't know but, it's great!"
I concur.

Geez...haven't peeked in here in a couple weeks.

Not True! The LS band were actually FANS of Neil Young and when SHA came out hoped he wouldn't take offense. The band actually SUPPORTED Neil Youngs views on the South at that time.

You have to understand how most of LS's songs were written.

RVS never wrote down lyrics (said if he couldn't remember the lyrics the next day they weren't worth singing)

In this case the line about Neil Young just came out of his head and fit the music as he heard it...

Neil Young thought the line was kind of funny and DID NOT take offense.

Oh, and own a side note...if you listen to the original recording you'll hear a faint voice in the background singing a line from Southern Man behind RVS's line. That was Al Kooper in the control room adding his own little twist to the song.

A very obscure song from Ian Hunter's first solo album in 1975.

And no, this WASN'T a single.

Here it is...all 8:52 of the long forgotten classic production "Boy"

Probably one of the most amazing one hit wonders of all time.

The original version of this song, quite honestly, was nothing with nothing.
It had no spark, no energy and was just plain stupid.

And then, an arranging genius got a hold of it and turned this into a
triple platinum dance remix smash.

Not played much today, this was the the dance smash of 2000 and
became a staple of sports events.

A song with a history that actually goes back to 1998 and artists previous
to these guys...I give you...

The best Long Island band from the late 60's. From there 3rd and final LP "If It's So". Video quality is poor but this is rare footage. A tribute to a great band.

Riki Tiki Tavi - Donovan
1970

Riki Tiki Tavi (Original Version)

Better get into what you gotta get into
Better get into it now, no slacking please
United Nations ain't really united
And the organisations ain't really organised

Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Won't be coming around for to kill your snakes no more my love
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone

(Every)body who read the Jungle Book knows that Riki tiki tavi's a
mongoose who kills snakes
(Well) when I was a young man I was led to believe there were organisations
to kill my snakes for me
(ie the) church ie the government ie the school
(but when I got a little older) I learned I had to kill them myself

(I said) Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Won't be coming around for to kill your snakes no more my love
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone

(16 bars instrumental)

People walk around they don't know what they're doing
They bin lost so long they don't know what they've been looking for
Well, I know what I'm a looking for but I just can't find it
I guess I gotta look inside of myself some more

oh oh oh inside of myself some more
oh oh oh inside of myself some more

Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone
Riki tiki tavi mongoose is gone

The Seeds

Can't Seem To Make You Mine

The Seeds' first single, "Can't Seem To Make You Mine", was a regional hit in southern California in 1965. The song was also played regularly on AM rock stations in northern California (and probably elsewhere), where it was well received by listeners.
