Bitmark Opinions? Benefits, Pitfalls . . . .

I was wondering if anybody has any opinions on Bitmark? I came across their site a couple of weeks ago.

I use IFTTT to automate some of my social media for a website I am building and marketing. For those not familiar IFTTT uses applets to do thinks like automatically post to Twitter when you upload a new photo to Instagram, or Tweet a new RSS feed update.

I noticed that IFTTT had a new applet for a service called Bitmark. After following a few links I established that Bitmark allows you to claim digital ownership of your creations online. They have created a universal system for digital property rights using blockchain technology (similar to Bitcoin the digital currency).

Bitcoin claims to extend traditional physical property rights to digital property by creating a system that allows property titles, "bitmarks" to be assigned to digital assets, and record the ownership and history of these bitmarks in a blockchain.

They say "Bitmark makes simple tools to allow anyone to assert ownership over their digital lives and take advantage of the value we create online" and "Through IFTTT Applets, anyone can bitmark their data to begin organizing their digital assets, start building an estate, and protect their legacy."

Anyway I setup some IFTTT applets to start bitmarking my Tweets and Instagram photos etc. I am accruing bitmarks, but I was just questioning if any of you guys have any thoughts on this?

Is it worth doing? Is it a waste of time? Does it really offer any protection (legally or otherwise) to your intellectual property? Will Bitmark take off and become well recognised? Does anybody here see great benefits of using Bitmark? Any potential drawbacks?

I'm looking forward to your thoughts.
