The season starts early this year by almost two weeks. Usually it starts in late October but they adjusted the schedule to create less back to backs.

Should be an interesting season. I'm looking forward to seeing how teams such as the Sixers, Rockets, TWolves, Celtics, Clippers, Cavs, Thunder play with new/healthy players. And of course there are the Warriors and Spurs, still the two best teams imo.

Ah yes. They are an interesting team. In fact ESPN has them at #11 in the NBA for most watchable teams, ahead of the Spurs:

        Fake news!!!

Everyone knows the Nugs are #1 for being the most watchable.

Seriously, a team I'm really interested in watching is Minnesota.

I watched the Warriors/TWolves game last night. It started at 11pm westcoast time because it was in China. The TWolves are going to be tough to beat this year. When the starters were in for both teams it was like a mid season game. Very competitive and fun game to watch. The TWolves have an impressive starting five, a few good players on the bench and are well coached. They looked like a top five team last night.

The West got even better and the East looks even weaker. In the East no team other than the Cavs and maybe the Celts look really good to me. I'd say 8 of the top 10 teams are in the West.

In the Northwest Division alone, we gained Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Carmelo* and Paul Millsap while only losing Gordon Hayward.

I tuned in the game just after it happened, but really feel for Hayward. I hope he can recover. From a balance standpoint, it weakens the East even more. I can't see any team getting by the Cavs now.

Kurt, you might enjoy seeing the boxscore stats from yesterday's OKC vs United team ( from Australia I believe ) which OKC barely won 86 to 85. Westbrook 3 for 10 shooting ( 0 for 3 in threes ), Paul George 5 for 17 ( 3 for 10 on 3s ) and Melo 6 for 19! LOL. Man, there are some gunners on that team. Just 15 assists by OKC also!

How long will Westbrook let these other guys shoot if their percentage is going to be that bad?

Interesting to see how popular the Warriors are in China. It kind of reminds me of the Beatles coming to the US. Draymond had this story:

"I signed an autograph for this guy today, he started crying. It caught me off guard. Just didn't expect that, but to see what you mean to someone else and how you can impact someone else, it's special ... He was legitimately in tears. I really couldn't believe it. I've seen quite the interactions, [people are] surprised to see you. You touch someone and they're like, 'Oh my God, they touched me!' I signed an autograph and he started crying, I couldn't believe it. But it was definitely a special moment, one that I won't forget. Not only today, that's something I'll remember for the rest of my life."

By the way, the great Connie Hawkins died a couple days ago. I read his book, Foul, when I was a kid. He was the precursor of Doctor J with his dunks, above the rim play and flair.

I also read "Foul" when I was a young teen. Although I don't remember much, I do remember it was a good book. Connie was in the direct lineage of above the rim players. I'd say it went something like:
      Baylor > Hawkins > Dr. J > David Thompson > Michael Jordan

And in Nugget News...it was just announced the Nugs are retiring Fat Lever's number. He's one of my favorite all time Nuggets and it's well deserved.

There's two Nuggets that stand out to me for always playing hard...Mutombo and Fat. I never saw either take a game off. And Fat was really more of a defensive player than an offensive one.

I remember the beat writing once asking Doug Moe, who was famous for yelling at players, why he never yelled at Fat. Moe replied, "Because Fat never needed it".

    The Dubs suck!

I must say, Houston's defense looks much improved.

Gordon Hayward injury was jarring. Wow, I hate seeing that. His injury will certainly hurt their depth.

Looking forward to a few of the games tonight, including the Spurs/TWolves, Sixers/Wizzards and the Nuggets/Jazz.

Maybe the Dubs lost to Rockets because of this guy

I've been watching his prank videos for awhile. This takes the cake.

Surprise he didn't get his arse thrown out of Oracle. Funny but yet very annoying to the players I'm sure.

Hey, how about Lonzo last night? Man, Beverley shut him down! I loved seeing it. I think he's going to face players that are fired up and wanting to shut him down every night so they can shut his dad up. haha

Looking at the box score for the Ws/Grizzlies, it looks like other than Durant and Steph no one showed up for the Ws, and Steph was booted. Was Durant booted too?

With Haywards injury, Celtics are somewhat having tragedies with their SFs and SGs although he's still alive. Len Bias, Reggie Lewis. Paul Pierce nearly died with stab wounds. Makes you wonder are NBA teams really have their trademark "jinx" that will stick with the franchise.

Kurt, Memphis is again a tough team. They lost two key older players in Randolph and Tony Allen, and they seem to be better. They beat the Rockets last night and are 3 and 0. They seem to always give the Warriors a tough time, except for a 50 point blowout loss to them last year. I think they are 3-2 against the Dubs the past two years. They have been a consistently good team since about 12 years ago.

The Warriors got an easy win last night against the Mavs, but they really aren't playing well still. The Mavs are just a bad team. Watching Nowitzki trying to play defense now days is almost comical with his little tiny steps trying to stay in position.

76ers got their first win and Ben Simmons got his 1st triple double. I like watching Simmons play and hope he wins the ROTY over Ball. They are similar players, but Simmons seems like the real deal name brand version, whereas Ball is the generic brand.

Oh Tim quit pulling a Nick Saban, i.e. always finding fault and having doubt about the Crimson Tide when deep down we all know he has a Team that is a superior one by a long shot

Ahh...Tim. Excited to see basketball again, but it is a rebuilding year for my Knicks.

However, New Jersey has a handful of the best high school teams and players in the country. I have already enjoyed some awesome pre-season hoops as the team I follow - The Patrick School, formerly St Patrick - has churned out pros like my guys Kyrie Irving, Michael Gilchrist, Deandre Bembry, all in the NBA now, and in the past Al Harrington and Sam Dalembert. Kentucky's frosh Nick Richards also went to the Patrick School, and will probably be a lottery pick after this year.

This year's Pat's team goes 7-1, 6-11, 6-10 up front. Bigger than almost all NBA teams. And each player is a blue chipper too.

Wow, very impressive HS team! I went to quite a few HS games about 3 to 4 years ago when I was dating a lady with a kid on the team. It was fun to be in that atmosphere again.

I don't care what Robert says, the Warriors aren't playing well. Lost to Detroit last night at home. Draymond is too busy talking and not concentrating on the game. yep. Curry isn't shooting the three well and making too many dumb turnovers. Warriors/Clips tonight.

The good news is that the Cavs and Spurs have been losing a few games also.

Yea Tim, we need to go have a beer and dwell in our Misery together. Getting really old as of lately. Aldridge has come to play this Season but really sloppy defense for Spurs lately.

The beer sounds good. You guys have lost three in a row now! Luckily, the Warriors played the Clippers last night. That woke them the hell up because they can't stand them. They actually took care of the ball also, with only 12 turnovers.

What's up with the Knicks this year? Seems like they improved by elimination: getting rid of Jackson and Melo?

You know how I feel about Melo...and without him on the team it looks like Porzingas is really starting to blossom. Porzingas looked really good last night. He hit a couple of shots from 4-5 feet beyond the 3 point line.

Plus, watching the Nugs/Knicks game last night, our local color guy Scott Hastings, brought up how with Phil gone, Hornacek can now coach how he wants on offense and defense, get the players he wants, and play the players he wants.

BTW, I give my Nuggets credit. They came back from being 23 points down in the second half to take a two point lead, but couldn't hold on for the win.

And Ben Simmons is looking great so far. He's averaging something like 18, 9 and 8. He has a great chance to average a triple double for a few seasons in his career.

Your Nuggets had a good game last night, beating the Raptors easily! So did Simmons: 19, 13 and 9. Simmons is very efficient also.

Simmons joined Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson as the only other player to net 100 points, 50 rebounds, and 40 assists through the first six games of their careers!

Cavs lose their 4th in a row! Maybe this will be the year Lebron doesn't make the finals after all.

Warriors playing the Spurs tonight. It's usually a game I really look forward to but both teams are struggling now and Leonard isn't playing.

We were up by 36 so the 4th quarter was all garbage time. Jokic just missed a triple double, he had 16 reb, 10 assists but only 8 points. I think the most promising thing is how well our two guards, Jamaal Murray and Gary Harris, are playing perimeter D. I still think Harris plays Steph as well as anyone in the NBA. We'll find out Sat. night.

Cavs may be toast. The only player on the team that can play any D at all is LeBron. Thing is, I just don't see anyone else in the East that's a real threat. I wish my Nugs played in the East.

I think Simmons will be the best player to enter the NBA in the last 6-7 years. His only weakness is shooting, but he can still score in other ways.

Your Nuggets had me worried in the first half. I was thinking "Here we go again, with the annual loss to the Nuggets".

At least you aren't a 49er or Browns fan. lol

Some excellent individual performances last night. Porzingis scored 40 and is off to a great start this year. Bradley Beal gets 38 in the absence of injured John Wall. Damian Lillard outplays Westbrook with 36 points and 13 assists. James Harden scores 56 with a very efficient 19 of 25 fgs and 7 of 8 3s, along with 13 assists. Oh, and Lonzo Ball shot an impressive 3 for 13 ( 1 for 8 on 3s ) while pouring in 9 points!!

Kidding about Ball, but the Lakers are much improved actually. Lopez is playing really well and Kuzma is a very good rookie. I think Luke Walton is showing he can coach also. Maybe this good Laker start will get TL back here?

The Nugs played the Lakers twice in preseason so I saw them play twice. I told a friend who's a Lakers fan that I thought Kuzma was the best rookie on that team.

And when can we start calling Lonzo Ball "Klank"? At least he's consistent...

Haha. They could face 10 years in prison. Can you imagine that? What were they thinking?

The Nuggets face the Thunder tonight on TNT. That should be interesting. The Thunder are struggling so far this year. Their last game in a loss to 1 and 8 Sacramento was similar to that preseason game I posted here about a few weeks ago: Westbrook 7 for 21 shooting ( 2 for 8 in threes ), Paul George 4 for 16 ( 3 for 9 on 3s ) and Melo 4 for 17 ( 3 for 9 )! As Charles Barkley would say "That's turrible".

Jokic had a great game in his last: 41 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Hell of a game.

I must say, Kurt, I can't recall a time when there was so many excellent players in the NBA. Some real good teams on the rise also.

For me, the time the NBA had the best players was when the ABA merged with the NBA and since all the ABA teams didn't make it, there was some contraction. When they merged there were players that were getting playing time so they developed and it was a "double draft", one for college players and another for the ABA players. For example, Chicago had the worst record in the NBA so they drafted first in both the ABA and college draft and got both Artis Gilmore and Scott May that year.

I know my Nuggets had more good players back then than they do today. That roster had Dan Issle, Bobby Jones, David Thompson, Ralph Simpson and Marvin Webster.

BTW, this season is the Nuggets 50 year anniversary season and tonight is ABA night. They're honoring Spencer Haywood and Ralph Simpson. Haywood's rookie year with us he averaged 30 pts and 20 rebounds and Ralph Simpson was my favorite player on a bad (then called the) Rockets.

Simpson was a scoring guard that moved to point when David Thompson joined the team...

BTY, that's Al Albert calling the game in the video, one of Marv Albert's brothers. Al was the long time voice of the Nuggets. I wish he still called the game now, I loved Al.

What did Barkley say? I missed it as I flipped over to the football game during half time...

And that was my favorite Nuggets team, the one that entered the NBA. Larry Brown, our coach at the time, panicked and traded Ralph Simpson believing we needed more rebounding. We traded him to Detroit, who traded Chris Ford to Boston and Boston traded Paul Silas to us. It was one of those trades that really didn't work out for anyone.

Here's the start of it, and then it went on for a while longer. They later talked to Reggie Miller, who probably actually has watched Jokic play in person several times, and Reggie explained what he was saying which was Jokic is probably like a very young Sabonis. Chuck and Kenny didn't even agree with that. I don't think they watch much basketball besides the games on TNT and the playoffs.

Chuck & Kenny Roast Reggie Miller For Comparing Nikola Jokic To Arvydas Sabonis - YouTube
It's tough comparing anyone to Sabonis. Before he was injured and came over here, I remember him totally dominating David Robinson in the Olympics.

As far as being compared to Divac, it's a pretty good comparison, although Jokic is already a much better rebounder, passer and shooter.

We may want to remind Chuck and Kenny that Jokic is still only 22. We can bring this up in another 5-6 years once Jokic gets into his prime. Regardless of what they think, Jokic plays basketball the right way and makes watching basketball fun. I've watched the impact Jokic has had on the Nuggets and how his passing has been contagious and how the other players now cut to the basket a lot more, knowing they'll be rewarded when they do. No players cut when Carmelo has/had the ball.

I think at this point in the season the biggest surprise for me is Detroit being 8-3. I wonder if they can keep it up...

And...is anyone surprised that OKC is dead last in the NBA in passes per game?

All the pundits are surprised at OKC's record but IMO they greatly overrate Melo's actual impact on winning games. Yeah, I think OKC will start to do a little better but I seriously doubt if they'll become a really good team.

Detroit is good. Drummond making his free throws really makes a difference.

You can see a big reason why Durant left OKC. This is how they were even before getting Melo and George, but Melo sure doesn't help them get away from that type of ISO offense.

Lol. Lonzo looks terrible out there. Did you see the game, Kurt? Compared to Simmons he looks like a high school player. Simmons and Embiid are the real deal and real fun to watch.

Should be a good matchup tonight with the Warriors playing in Boston.

I had the game on while I did some work and starting paying attention in the 4th quarter. Simmons looks great, just need to work on a jump shot. Embiid looked a bit like Akeem at times. He just needs to stay healthy, which is a big question mark. I can't think of many 7 footers that get hurt early in their careers then get healthier later.

Here's a pretty amazing stat that I bet most NBA fans weren't aware of. I wasn't. I knew the Warriors were leading the league in blocks and also did so last year, but the difference between them and the rest of the league is huge.

The Warriors have 318 blocks. The Spurs are second in the league at 216. The worst team in the league in blocks has 119. So, the gap between the Warriors and the Spurs is greater than the Spurs and the team that blocks the fewest shots in the league, Detroit!

Btw, the record for most blocked shots per game and season is
8.7-Washington, 1985-86 (716/82). The Warriors are close to that record, averaging 8.4 currently.

There's a lot of talk about Lebron James leaving the Cavs next year, especially if they don't win a chip this year which is looking more and more unlikely. One of the reports is that he open to talking to the Warriors. Lol. I'm not sure if that is possible financially or even basketball wise, but then again, it sounded kind of crazy when reports came out about two years ago that the Warriors were very interested in getting Durant.

Looks like the Clippers moved Blake to clear cap space to go after Lebron. I'd guess that Houston and either of the LA teams are the favorites, with the Knicks being a dark horse. I'm not looking forward to another offseason of the drama queen soaking up all the attention he can get.

I can't see him going to a rebuilding team, which both LA teams are. Houston? Yes.

It was a fun game (since we won). I was worried we'd blow another lead. Our young Big 3 held their own against OKC's Big 3. Harris is 23, Jokic is 22 and Murray is 20 and isn't old enough to buy a beer yet, so I feel good about our future. Murray reminds me of Steph in the way he can get off his shot any time he wants to...he just needs to become more consistent making shots.

Damn Nuggets! This would be a good matchup in the playoffs.

I'm a bit worried about the Rockets catching the Warriors. The Warriors seem to think they can just turn it on in the playoffs, but we all know how that can go.

Meanwhile, in the East, the Cavs look turrible, but I'm not sure if any team in the east can beat them in the playoffs. Not yet anyways.

Hated to see Cousins get hurt. The Pelicans were playing really well at the time.

The Sixers are looking really good. At times. Not consistent still, but Simmons and Embiid are terrific players. The also pass the ball a lot like the Warriors offense.

Nugs seem to play the Ws as well as anybody, but I really hope we can move up a few positions so we don't have to play you guys in the first round in the playoffs.

Other than OKC I enjoy watching the Cavs lose as much as anybody. I think their issues are permanent and not short term like times in the past. I don't think they'll make it past the Celtics.

Boogie was really playing well and filling up the stat sheet. That's a tough injury and I hope he can fully recover from it.

Embiid and Simmons are the best young tandem in the NBA. But I really worry about Embiid. I can't think of any 7 footers that had multiple serious injuries early in their careers then went on to have injury free careers. It seems the big guys that get hurt early break down. I hope I'm wrong.

I think Malone is more known as a defensive coach. At least he figured it out though, unlike Mark Jackson who had an offensive powerhouse on hand and stifled them by running ISOs over and over.

I liked seeing the Cavs lose to the Wizards the other night. They looked like the old Cavs again, with Lebron doing it all down the stretch. They still should be an improved team come playoffs with the new players.

I'm looking forward to the warriors vs Thunder game in a few minutes. The Thunder easily beat the Warriors the last time.

Trade Joker, the only player 6'10" or taller to have 3 straight triple doubles since Wilt Chamberlain? Sure. The only problem is it's past the trade deadline.

PS...Please beat OKC tonight. We need them to lose to catch them in the standings, plus I can't stand that team. I like rooting against OKC and Lebron almost as much as I do rooting for my Nugs. LOL

I caught the second half of the Nuggets vs Clippers game last night. Looked like the Nuggets were on their way to a blowout. They were playing great and on a couple plays watching Joker I did a WOL. He looks so smooth, and plays almost effortless at times. He kind of reminds me Simmons in that way. Very poised for a young guy. ( Robert is hating this post I am sure. Lol ) The Clippers came back in the 4th and pulled out a win. Good game.

Interesting that the Clippers look better without Griffin. The Wizards are also playing better without Wall, passing the ball a lot more and getting more players involved.

The Spurs are really missing Duncan and Leonard. Leonard is supposed to come back this week, but will it be too late?

Portland is hot now and is going to hard to beat in the playoffs. Houston looks great, but I just keep thinking about Paul and Harden choking in the playoffs. Utah's playing good also.

I would love to see Toronto make it to the finals. I thought the ir win against Houston was a big one for their confidence. We'll see. The East teams always seem to choke against Lebron's teams come playoff time.

Big win versus Timberwolves tonight. Anyway, they have tough one Monday. And without Leonard do not see how they can win against Warriors.

Meanwhile Nuggets have done something NO team in the NBA has done in over 6 weeks...lose to the Grizzlies. A very untimely slip up at this juncture against a team that is clearly the worse in the NBA.

Anyway, it looks like it's coming down to the wire between Rockets and Warriors. Too bad no more head to head between them.

The Warriors are without Durant, Curry, and Thompson, and Caspi, McCaw, Looney, Igoudala, West, Bell, Green, Zaza are all still injured ( day to day ) or coming off of injuries and are not 100%.

Curry out with MCI sprain, will be evaluated in 3 weeks. With all your injuries it looks like there's no stopping Houston.

            When's the draft?

Yeah, I must admit Houston looks great. I just wonder if they have peaked too soon. Happened to the Warriors before. And other teams, like maybe Toronto this year. Toronto looked hot until they lost to Lebron a couple weeks ago.

I heard Coach Malone talk about a concept I haven't heard before...he says we're running a .5 offense. Players have half a second to decide if they want to shoot (if they're open), drive to the basket or pass. In other words, the "Anti-Melo" offense.

      Haha. That's pretty quick.

Looks like the Cavs are playing better. Lonzo still sucking. Dubs playing so so with Durant hurt. Ben Gordon arrested again for felony robbery. He's only 34! Grizzlies playing terrible after I said they looked very good again, fire their coach. Must be the Tim curse. Blake Griffin injured again and out two months. smh. Nuggets playing good ball are 8-2 at home! Maybe taking advantage of the mile high home court?

JB Bickerstaff took over in Memphis and is Bernie Bickerstaff's kid and went to the same high school I went to.

And what's up with the Pacific Division Tim? Dubs are only winning team.

Last night was Fat Lever night for my Nuggets. They retired Fat's #12. Long overdo but glad they got it done. Fat is one of my 2-3 favorite Nuggets of all time. I remember Doug Moe, who was famous for yelling at players, why he never yelled at Fat. Moe replied, "Because I never needed to". Fat and Mutombo were the two players for us that I never saw take a night off and played hard every night.

And we beat the Lakers without all three of our starting front court...we're missing Jokic, Millsap and Wilson Chandler. Gary Harris had one of the prettiest 360 layups I've ever seen.

Last night we beat Tim's Dubs, holding them to their lowest point total at home in over 3 seasons ending their 11 game winning streak including 7 straight without Steph. So I turn on ESPN to see what they have to say about the game. And no surprise, they don't mention the Nuggets at all, it was all about the Dubs.

Granted, the Dubs were stone cold, at one time klanking 20 straight 3s. However, it was 50/50 with the Dubs being cold and the Nugs playing excellent D, especially Gary Harris on Klay. Harris is turning into a very good NBA player on both ends of the court.

What's going on with the Ws? Watched their game against OKC and was really rooting for the Ws to win so we can catch OKC in the standings. Ws didn't even show up...on their home court.

BTW, Porzingas out for the year with an ACL.

I don't know. They aren't mentally into it and other teams are always up for them. I think they will get it together after the all-star break. Honestly, they haven't played consistently all year and just occasionally have played their best. They are coasting along it seems. Turnovers lost that last game and lack of defense intensity.

How about these trades today!!?? Wow! IT traded again and Wade sent back to Miami. I wonder what he thinks about that.

Also, the Nuggets traded Mudiay. He didn't work out like I thought he would, but he's a really good kid. I wish him the best of luck in the future.

Interesting changes in the playoff standings. Houston in now tied with Dubs for best record in the NBA, with the Dubs getting ready to play against Portland as I type this. And Toronto now has the best record in the East, two games ahead of Boston. Funny how we never hear anything about Toronto and the sports media has such a bias for the major market teams. All we hear about in the East is Cleveland, Boston and the Knicks, and nothing about Toronto.

Also, there's 6 teams in the West fighting for 4 playoff games all separated by just 3 games.

As it turned out it was really Dicky V...and I'm a bonehead. LOL

Jokic had a triple double with 1:20 left in the first half, which is the fastest for a player to record a triple double In 20 years. There's some claiming that it was the fastest triple double ever with Jokic getting it after just 12 minutes of playing time. He also had 30 points on 11 for 14 shooting.

First game back after the All Star break and Joker gets another triple double, his third straight game with a triple double. Adds 28 points on 10-16 shooting.

My biggest complaint with Michael Malone is how he has used Joker. Last year Malone started Nurkic until a couple of months into the season then started Jokic. We were a much better team with Jokic and I thought anyone with 20/20 vision could see he was the better player. Then this year Malone starts the season with a half court offense calling a lot of plays. A month ago Malone let the offense be more free flowing and run through Jokic and we're a lot better team and Joker has 5 triple doubles in the last few weeks. Sometimes I just don't understand Malone.

The Spurs free fall continues and as of now out of the playoffs in the 10th spot in the West, tied with 3 other teams including the Nugs.

The West is brutal. I don't think my Nugs will make the playoffs...we have too many road games left and haven't played well on the road. Every team in our division is at least 6 games above .500.

Dubs fall to a full 2 games behind Houston and Curry having ankle issues. I think Houston is something like 36-2 when both Harden and Paul play?

Meanwhile, Toronto is getting no respect in the East. All the media coverage is still about the Cleveland LeBrons and Celtics. Raptors GM Masai Ujiri is really good. He was with the Nuggets and built George Karl's teams and behind the Melo trade that brought us a lot of good players.

I won't mention that the Joker had another triple double tonight...his 8th of the season putting him 3rd behind Westbrook and LeBron. Don't tell anybody, but since 2015 Joker has 14 triple doubles and every other center combined have 12.

Nuggets pull off one of the best comebacks I've ever seen from them. Down 17 with 5:50 to play and 8 with 1:00 to play, we tie it up and win in overtime to keep our playoff hopes alive.

I can't believe we're 7 games over .500 and in last place in our division. LOL

I'm not sure I want the 8th seed. No offense Tim, but we match up a lot better with your Dubs than we do with the Rockets. We just don't have an answer for Harden.

Harden is a handful and that team is deep now also. I'm still not convinced they can get into the finals though. Too bad Erving is out for Boston. I think the only team in the East that can beat Cleveland is the 6ers, who play each other in about an hour.

6ers beat the LeBrons...the thing with the 6ers is Embiid is out "at least" 2-4 weeks. I think both Toronto and Boston could beat the LeBrons.

I think there is going to be some very competitive 1st round matchups in the west with an upset or two. The Warriors might even be one of those to be upset because they have been playing awful lately. Actually, they have lacked intensity just about all year, with their defense nowhere near the level it has been the last few years.

Should be fun though. Good luck to your Nuggets tonight, Kurt.

Kurt, I did end up watching most of that game because they had it on the NBA station. Good close intense game and I thought Denver was going to pull it out. Your Nuggets ended the season on a strong note, after winning six straight to even make it close.

Now, Minnesota will play Houston and the listless Warriors will play Robert's Leonardless Spurs. A good matchup in the East will be Cleveland vs the surprising Pacers. You know who I will be pulling for there. The Thunder vs Jazz should be a good one also. Go Jazz!

The Knicks fired Hornacek and there's talk of Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy ( really? ) or David Fizdale ( better ) replacing him. The Magic fired Vogel also.

The Wizards signed Ty Lawson, ex Nugget, after a year playing in China and he will be eligible to play in the playoffs.

Markelle Fultz broke Lonzo Ball's 4 month record as the youngest player to get a triple double in the NBA. Looks like the Sixers made all the right moves this year as Fultz is playing good ball now.

By the way, Westbrook needed to get 34 rebounds in his last two games and he got 38. Naw, he doesn't think about stats.

Yeah and just think if Leonard was playing we would maybe been a slight favor. Anyway, good luck Tim. It ought to be an easy win for you guys. I might watch it. Not really sure. I think we were going to Six Flags on Saturday. And DVR not working right. But maybe I might look at my cell phone to get updates when I'm riding kiddie Coaster or something.

It should be a mere cake walk for Warriors

But talking has evolved in not only building a super super superstar team but also giving Lebron and Kwahi ( more so Lebron) the opportunity to work with Lacob in Silicon Valley and upping his investment portfolio and possibly big business ventures to enter after his Career with Lacob and some of the big VCs out there.

Word out on the street that Lebron has been informally talking about this for some time.

Which would make sense hearing him discussing different investments strategies with several financial Notables including his close relationship with Buffet.

It really wouldn't surprise me in the least if it does indeed happen.

Philly has expressed interest in LeBron but if I was them I wouldn't pursue him. That's a very unselfish team who love to spread the wealth so to speak. Lebron is a great passer but there's something about his game which doesn't seem to bring out the best in all of his team mates consistently. I can't see the Warriors really wanting Lebron either. I think it would destroy their chemistry. Lacob also wanted Kevin Love and was willing to trade Klay for him, which would have been a big mistake. Jerry West talked him out of that one.

Now, Leonard's game would fit in nicely with the Dubs and Philly, but after what has happened this year, whatever it is, would either team want to take a chance?

I do think one of the reasons Durant came to the Warriors was the investments angle, but I think Iguodala had more to do with that than Lacob. If Lacob got involved in any talks with potential players about investments during or after their careers, I would think that would go against the NBA rules.

I'm a bit worried about tonight's game. Can't help it after that finals series when they lost three in a row.

Great game by Ginobili the other day. What a competitor he is!

D'Antoni is a good system coach, but he doesn't seem to be able to adjust to game time situations at all and his only solution is to keep firing 3s. The two best coached teams in the NBA are Utah and Boston IMO.

Utah and Boston are both getting the most out of almost every player, a sign of a great coach. I'd still put Pops at the top, though.

When the Raptors blew their lead and missed 4 shots at the end of regulation in game one, they looked defeated. The series was over. I've seen this story before. The Cavs have them psyched out.

I was hoping the Sixers could beat the Cavs, but after the first two games against the Celtics it doesn't look like it, even if they come back to win this series. Simmons looked terrible last night, easily the worst game I have seen him play. Let's see how they respond in Philly, but it looks like Lebron will make it to the finals again.

By the way, Brown should play Fultz. How can you sit your #1 pick in the teams first playoffs in years? Give him the playoff experience.

The Rockets are dangerous but they had trouble with Utah and just don't look as sharp as they did earlier in the year. They could beat the Warriors, although the Warriors defense has gotten into playoff mode and are fairly injury free. The Celtics are playing great team ball but The Celtics have big problems with LeBron. Who guards LeBron on the Celtics? If the Cavs get by the Celtics, I think they would beat the Rockets, but not the Warriors.

I would love to see the Warriors vs Celtics and that would be an entertaining series.

Loved seeing the Celtics dominate the Cavs and I hope that trend continues tonight. The Cavs just don't have a tough defense. They can turn it up for a while but can't seem to sustain it.

I also enjoyed last night's game, as the Warriors fairly easily regain the home court advantage that Houston worked so hard to get. lol

Durant is the difference maker. Harden and Paul pretty much cancel out Klay and Steph, but Houston has no answer for Durant. Durant is different than many of the other top scorers in that he's decisive and makes quick offensive moves unlike players like Clankmelo, Harden and Westbrick that need to pound the ball forever before shooting the ball.

Joker with back to back clutch triple doubles, missing a third straight by a single assist and was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. We've won 6 straight games, all against teams that are .500 or better for the first time in our 50 year history...and we're still not in the playoffs. Don't those other teams ever lose?

I just checked and that game won't be televised! Damn. ESPN is showing the Bucks/6ers game instead. They should change that if possible!

By the way, Robert, what's the inside scoop on Leonard? Is he pissed off at the Spurs or something? I thought he was cleared to play several weeks ago.

          I don't know it's just totally bizarre.

I have heard many things. One thing I've heard is where Leonard who is up for Contract this coming year and wanted a guarantee that if he came back and got re injured he would still guaranteed that SuperMax Contract. And maybe the Spurs balked at that and wouldn't guarantee him

That's just some speculation I have heard.

But something is up. I think Pop and crew is just not saying anything because it will be that much more of a distraction for the playoffs.

At this point it seems pretty dismal. He is not even sitting with the Team in the stands ( at least from the Games I'm watching). That's just not Spur's basketball and the attitude they have had in the last 20 years since Pops been there.

So as far as Iam concerned he can leave. I know that sounds extreme but he has really not exhibited good sportsmanship as a individual or team player that the Spurs have always embodied, imo

I mean, geesh, you got a guy 40 yrs. old busting his butt night in and night out.

You have another guy 3 years ago who forgo his $10 mil. a year with the Pacers just to come to SA for $1 mil.and is now with the Warriors

So it's like whatever. He really has burnt his bridges here in SA. Which is sad because everybody has loved him, Just weird how he went like this. Maybe the people around him ??

Who knows but I hope Iam wrong about this and am just reading it wrong with him and the situation.

But we need him big time. And no way Parker and Ginobli will let him forget this, not when team's doctors have giving him the green light.

I'll say this...no team in the West backed into the playoffs.

Utah deserves a lot of credit. They lost their best player Gordon Hayward in the offseason and Rudy Gobert missed 30+ games and their leading scorer is a rookie and they still are a possible top seed. It hurts me that MItchell was drafted with a pick they got from the Nuggets. Same with Gobert. Not the two best trades we ever made.

OKC adds two All Stars in George and Melo and looks like their record will improve by a whole game (sarcasm) over last year. I'll say it again, Melo doesn't improve the number of games a team wins. Westbrook is close to being in the same category. He helps his team win more than it loses, but there seems to be a limit to how well his teams do and I don't think he makes teammates better. Look at how Oladipo blossomed after leaving OKC. A team with Westbrook, George, Melo and Adams can't win as many games as Utah?

Even though the Nugs are now the 9 seed, if we beat Minn tomorrow we'll make the playoffs, but we can't finish in the 8 seed due to tie breakers, of which we hold many.

It seems 7 is the most likely spot, which means we'd play the Dubs. We could also end up 5 and play the Spurs and 6 is also possible.

With Curry out the Dubs haven't been playing well lately. I think they're 7-9 in their last 16 games (not counting tonight against Utah) and have only won one game against a team over .500 during that stretch.

Lol. I'm a bit surprised he is on that show. I'm wondering how he will incorporate the skyhook into ballroom dancing.

Hey, how about the Pelicans winning two in Portland? Holiday is looking great and Gentry has done a good job with that team considering the personalities they have such as Rondo and Cousins.

It's always nice to see the Cavs, or the LeBrons, lose, but especially in a home opening playoff series. Indiana is playing inspired ball. I hope they can get game two tonight.

And the LeBrons lose a close one...I wonder after he jumps ship which team he'll land with next year? People are saying Philly but I don't think LeBron and Simmons can coexist, as they both need the ball in their hands.

Also I heard Porzingas may miss all of next year for the Knicks, which would be a shame.

The game by Rose was perhaps his best since his MVP year. At least that I have seen.

Teague 1 for 7. DeRozan 10 for 29 the day before. Two others who don't shot well in the playoffs.

Houston looking good in the third quarter but only average in the other three quarters. Minnesota just isn't ready yet, Towns especially. Good experience for them though.

Again, Clankmelo Anthony fails to move past the first round of the playoffs. The only time he did in his entire career was when Chauncey Billups was with the Nuggets and Chauncey had a long history of playoff success. Sometimes a team losing is almost as satisfying as my team winning.

Agreed. Westbrook goes 18 for 43! George goes 2 for 16!

How about Donovan Mitchell? What a player he has turned out to be!

Looking forward to tonight's games: Boston/Bucks game 7. I am pulling for the Bucks. Then the Warriors/Pelicans. Hopefully Curry will be back. If the Pelicans can steal a win in game one this could be a great series. The Pelicans have given the Warriors troubles in the playoffs before and now are on a roll.

      Tomorrow, game seven Cavs/Pacers.

The Jazz are the anti-OKC. OKC signs two "superstars" to go with Westbrook while the Jazz use "rejects" and mid to low round draft picks.

I think Mitchell is the start of a new mini-trend in the NBA, and that is players that drive and take the ball to the hoop. With all the focus on the 3 point shot the lane is wide open. Today's centers an power forwards need to defend the 3 and be able to switch on picks, so there's very few real shot blockers that just clog the lane.

One reason I get frustrated with the Nuggets is Jokic is virtually unstoppable in the low post and it seems this is a secondary strategy for us. When he's in the low post it's one on one with no help because the lane is empty with all the other players around the 3 point line. I think teams will start to exploit this a little more and Mitchell is a player that does it well.

The Pels didn't give your Dubs much of a game, and although I believe blowouts are a bit over-rated, I'm not sure the Pels can hang with the Dubs.

There's a few people that think Brad Stevens has overtaken Pop as the best coach in the NBA. Celts are without both Hayward and Kyrie and don't seem to be missing a beat.

That's not a bad idea. I could see it happening. I'm not sure how Popovich and Erving would get along though, but they could use the offensive help from him. Tatum is probably better than Hayward already.

With this trade I'm assuming Kawhi doesn't want to play for the Spurs. If he does, never mind.

The Rockets game...ouch. But I said it before, I think blowouts are overrated.

Dubs seemed disoriented earlier, just like what happened with Cavs the other day. But Cavs was worse, as if there was some black magic cloaked in them players.

I want to see Warriors VS Celtics in the Finals.

The Dubs said they wouldn't let down in game two but the defensive intensity wasn't there atthe same level as game one and Houston had their back against the wall, came out and played a very good game. I might just go to Sunday's game. Looks like a long series.

The Lebrons I think will pull out a win tonight. Lebron will score 85 and have triple double and they'll win by 3. :p

Dubs officially a Dynasty, imho. Three Championships in 4 years and a 73 games won in reg. Season.

I think 4 would make it official to all the critics and nba pundits. But this is good enough.

Although I will say in due respect Tim, I still think they could have got there without Durant. The fact is people outside Dub nation will always have a bad taste in their mouths over that Trade. Including the Commish who says it should have NEVER had happened.

      Frankly ,I feel a little that way. Of course if I was honest I would be as happy as yuou and Dub nation if the shoes was reversed and we got Durant.;

But still think the Dubs were a Dynasty without him. And it would have made the NBA so much more interesting and probably better off as a whole

That finals was anticlimactic, wasn't it? The real Championship was the WCFs. Too bad Paul got hurt as Houston looked tough to beat with him. Can you believe all the missed threes in game 7?

Should be an interesting off season with Leonard reportedly asking for a trade now and the LeBron Decision Trois. I'm seeing a lot of articles about Leonard, Lebron and either Paul George or Damian Lillard coming to the Lakers. Where's TL when we need the inside scoop on the Lakers? lol

Kurt, Michael Porter Jr could be the steal in the draft.

      http://youtu.be/8Hjnl_J1YhY

I watched the whole first round and I think there's going to be several players who step right in and become stars. I'm happy with the guy the Warriors got also, Jacob Evans. He'll fit right in.

Robert's probably not too happy about the Warriors signing Cousins. But hey, teams weren't willing to take a chance with him, so he dropped into the Warriors laps.

Looks like the Spurs traded Leonard to Toronto for DeRozan. The Raptors also get Green and the Spurs get Poeltl and a 1st round pick. Not a bad deal for the Spurs considering Leonard asked to be traded and is becoming a free agent next year. I think DeRozan will fit in nicely with the Spurs. For Toronto? Hard to say. It's reported Leonard wants to play in LA, but maybe after a good year in Toronto he could change his mind.

Well thats a no we know for sure now. I never thought the day would come but I am willing to consider him as GOAT. I still love the artistry of MJ's style. Lebron doesn't give me those "did he just do that with the ball" memories but man its gotten too hard to deny his accomplishments. I certainly no longer think anyone is crazy for not going with Mike.

Me too! I can't believe it but I just won't deny his great skills anymore. In addition to his skills there can be no denying his incredible stamina and endurance.

I still won't consider him as GOAT. There have been many games over the years that he is never called for charging and the foul goes to the defender. Once that is established he simply gets his way in the paint since everyone has to back off just a little.

I won't word this as well as Mike just did but for watching pure jaw dropping moves it will always be MJ for me. Kobe, Lebron, no one has come close. With MJ it seemed effortless and new every time he played. Even in a completely unimportant game early in the season he just couldn't help himself. He was cutthroat but always having fun at the same time. MJ also seemed to bring out the exciting moves from teammates. Most of them seemed to love playing with him which has not always been the case with this other guy.

P.S. I hope G.S. breaks every stat possible and buries the Cavs. Well, maybe a little ahead of myself.

I love the Nuggets pick of Michael Porter Jr. He was projected to be the #1 or #2 pick overall, but fell to 14 because of a serious back injury. It's a gamble for us, but I believe you have to roll the dice. We don't need any more good, solid players. We need a star and if Porter is healthy he can be a star.

It seems the Nuggets are a long shot in the LeBron sweepstakes. We're not the favorites, but rumors are he will consider us. Josh Kroenke and LeBron are friends and LeBron has said he loves Jokic as a player. Also, Mike Malone was an assistant in Cleveland when LeBron was there the first time.

Of Philly, the Lakers and NY, I really think he'd fit in best with us and we'd be contenders. The issue I see with Philly is both he and Simmons are similar players and need the ball a lot. I'm guessing Boston and SA could be options, but Boston would need to do something with Kyrie and not sure if LeBron would let Pop coach him

But if I had to bet, I'd guess he'll probably stay in Cleveland...

I hear he wants to be around his son Bronny as he gets into his teenage years playing ball. He's 13 now. So, yeah, Cleveland has the upper hand for sure.

Kurt, did you hear OKC fans were upset Melo decided to stay in OKC? Lol

Where will Leonard end up? I hear the Spurs will either keep him or send him to an eastern team. He would do well as a Sixer or Celtic I think. Or on Cleveland?

After fans watch him play for their team for a season none of them want Melo back. I also see a lot of sports pundits that thought Melo was all-world when he played for the Nuggets now think he's one of the most overrated players ever.

Leonard is a tough call. He only has one year left on his contract (I think) and has said he wants to play in LA (for either team), so I'm not sure what his value is. Boston seems to have the trade assets to make a deal and earlier I suggested trading Kyrie and Gordon for Leonard. Doesn't Philly have a high draft pick next year they got in a trade? Other than that, I don't see anything Philly would be willing to trade that SA would want. Would Pop want any players the Lakers have to offer?

Philly got Miami's #1 in 2021. Who know's how good Miami will be by then. They do have some players Pops would like I think including the rookie they just drafted, and the Lakers might have a couple too.

Clippers traded Austin Rivers. Doc isn't in charge of making them, so that helps. Jerry West's influence is already being felt.

Should be interesting in the next few weeks.

      No thanks. lol

He also doesn't want to come off the bench and how many teams will want to start him with his production level going down?

Ex Warrior 1st round pick Clifford Rozier died at just 45. He had a short NBA career, then had mental health and drug addiction problems, was broke and homeless for many years.

Hey, I hear Houston might want him. Go ahead Houston. There's your starting small forward to compete against Draymond or Durant in the Conference finals. The Rockets would probably win 10 fewer games with Melo starting all year.

The Las Vegas odds makers just moved the Lakers up from third to the second favorite (after the Dubs) to win the championship, leaping over Houston, because of rumors Houston will sign Melo.

The Rockets also lost Luc Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza also. Both good defensive players and three ball shooters. The Rockets could have resigned a Moute for the same amount they are thinking of paying Melo, from what I have read. They also haven't signed Capela yet. Some weird stuff going on in Houston.

IMO, if Houston thinks Melo will help them win more games than Capela will, they are badly mistaken. D'Antoni has said the reason he had to resign from the Knicks is because of Melo. I don't understand what the Rockets are thinking?

Also, I'm watching sports stuff and all the talk is about Melo and no mention that Jokic just signed a max deal with the Nuggets for 5 years. At the same age Jokic is a much better player than Melo was, and actually makes his teammates better, and Jokic is also a better player now.

I said above that Tony Parker was one of if not THE) most underrated player of the last 20 years...and I believe Melo is the most overrated.
