PC Base Unit (+ / - £2,000, UK) ? Helping a Friend Shop

I'm helping one of my coaching students find a new computer this weekend. Long shot, but I'm wondering if any UK Warriors can throw us some links.

I get my own tech from CyperPower. We've found some nice base units on CyperPower and Amazon UK for his budget but I'm seeing if I can save him a few quid without sacrificing quality and reliability.

His budget is around £2,000 for the base unit but he's comfortable at looking over that figure for a deal. We're looking at new-gen i7s, 16/ 32 GB, nvidia 1080 8GB, 2TB, etc. Those are the base specs and ideal for what he does. Depending on the entire system, average local prices are around £1600 and £2200. Seeing if I can save him a few quid on that.

He'll be looking around later when he gets up. I'm an early riser, so I'm hunting around now. If you know of any decent deals in the UK, whack me with any links you have. As I say, bit of a long shot, but we've got plenty of UK Warriors, so you never know.

  • Why such high spec, is he a gamer? With that sort of budget he could get something with a 4k display in with the price. Also an SSD hard drive and conventional HD combo. SSD's will speed your loading times up no end.

      I'll add those to the list of potentials; I appreciate it. That monitor, especially, is a beaut for that price.

      I know what you mean about Apple; price over power. I'm a sucker for some Apple products (phone, tablet) but that's as far as my madness goes.

  • Tom, I've gone to Novatech in Portsmouth for my last couple of PCs. They let you customise individual components and choose the operating system - and the build quality is good.

    I don't know how they'd compare price-wise for the type of system your friend wants, but their after-sales service/tech support, when I've needed it, has been top notch. https://www.novatech.co.uk/

      Overall, the prices are pretty comparable to where I'm used to, Cyber Power, but I'm seeing some good specs and prices in their deals section. I'm going through it now and I'll add it to our list. I appreciate you throwing that at me.

      It's much easier when I shop for myself. I don't throw money around but I'm less concerned about getting a deal. When you help a mate and you see a spec, you want to make sure you're not overlooking a better option.
