Favorite Extinct Children's TV Shows

I've got the first season of Superman on DVD. Eventually, I'll get the whole
series. I remember watching this in syndication on channel 11 WPIX around
4 PM in the afternoon in the early to mid 60s.

I really needed to get a life.

Probably the best cartoon series ever to hit the tubes.

I'll never forget when we finally got to meet Mr Big and it turned out
to be this little guy.

Classic.

Kim, William Conrad supplied the voice of the narrator.

How he did it with a straight face, I will NEVER know.

Kurt, we were probably plopped down in front of our non remote control
B&W TVs at the same time each day.

Yeah, remember these all well and so many others.

There was one show, sometime in the 60s, where this guy talked to cartoon
characters that lived in his TV set. One of them went by the name of
Loralie Loverly.

I don't remember the guy's name or the show's name.

And no, I did not dream it. It existed. It may have been a local show to
this area for all I know because I can't find any references to it in any
book or online.

If anybody knows what show I'm talking about, please let me know.

It's been driving me crazy for about 30 years.

Seems so perverse watching the original, wholesome, homely MM Club to realize that the modern version spawned Britney Spears, Christina Aguilara and Justin Timberlake. What is the world coming to? Gone to? Went? LOL.

Well they were still cute at this point.

Ever see the flag episode? Po is wandering around the hills and comes across a flagpole with a waving flag. A rainbow flag. Which is a little silly, but then Po points at it and announces "fag!" - which started me giggling. He picks it up and goes to show Lala, who repeats "fag!" and joins him in his march around the countryside... by the time Dipsy joins ("fag!"), they've got their own little pride parade through the hills, and here comes Tinky Winky with his purse, and I'm literally on the floor barely able to breathe.

Yeah, fine, I'm immature. Sue me. It was funny. At least it isn't Rolie Polie Olie:


Now, admittedly, I might be overly sensitive to this... but honestly: everything in the house is alive. The stove. The chairs. The doors. The vacuum cleaner. The toaster. And the family is apparently a bunch of robots. I have never seen a clearer depiction of slavery on children's television. It's simply horrific, and I don't understand how anyone can handwave it and say "nah, it's fine."

Sure, they act happy. Happiness is mandatory. Failure to be happy is punishable by summary execution. The computer is your friend. The computer wants you to be happy.

The absolute winner for brilliant modern children's programming is Boohbah... although it seems to completely freak out anyone under thirty, which is actually part of the fun for me.

I love how a guy with the username "aidsTV" describes this clip as "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? THIS IS NOT FOR KIDS!"

Wow, now you're making me feel old because that's my kids childhood.

I LOVED Johnny Quest. In fact I'd be so bummed if I missed it on Saturday morning.
