I used to use social media, or facebook, twitter, deviantart and the one with all ot the images, (can't remember it off hand).

But after 6 months of posting all of my new flyers, that traffic was at trickle levels and it was a complete waste of time.

Also tried writing articles, but similar result.

About the only ones that use SM, effectively are the ones that got a big boost initially, (got handpicked and got a free run of a giant list).

They tend to rave about how effective Pinterest, etc (remembered it) are, but for most of us, next to useless.

Usually, the only time I'm on social is running ads or using it for work. For personal use, I'm on it 15-30 minutes a week.

I suppose it depends what your niche is but social media
such as Pinterest and Instagram has proven very successful
for many marketers and also offline small businesses use
these platforms to generate local customers for their business.

Very successful, lol, l have tried it on a website about games that l worked on for years, with crap results, same goes for flyers, (l should have done well with Pinterest, since it is visual) but same trickle and crap results.

      Examples speak louder than words.

PS if l built tactical nukes, no doubt l would say how great they are, and wouldn't mention the red button.

Note to Mods: Isabella approved this thread for the OT section. There's no indication the OP is talking about using social media for business purposes.

    Thank you. Please carry on...

here is my typical type of response ..what do you consider social media.. i limit my arguing in text with total strangers to forum posts .. as i can disagree with pretty much everyone here ..have a multi post exchange.. and not have it disappear like on facebook or youtube ..

and i have no desire to watch you tubes or listen to podcasts , or read vlogs i don't like and think are crap .. just so i can then spend a few days arguing in comments about what trash the video or the multiple videos i watched from someone where ..

here are the limits of my mentioning politics..i purged my face friends list of people who where posting way to much pro trump or anti trump posts last year..and purge new people who go there .. which keep my face book friends list pretty short ..

For personal use, I'm on Instagram for just 20-30 mins. But for business use, usually engage more time liking, commenting.

Yes, I believe so too. On average, maybe about 4 to 5 hours a day but these days I'm only using messenger on Facebook. Not too much browsing and being too nosy on other people's lives anymore. I try to stay away from it as much as I can because I don't want it to take up too much of my time let alone be bothered by other people's problems.

I believe that yes, a lot of people use social media too much and not realizing what is truly going on through their own eyes. Now if you can manage your usage and balance then I think social media can be a huge benefit for networking and friendships.

I spend less and less time on social these days only because I am huge on creating in certain spots I own, and spots my blogging buddies own. AKA, our self-hosted Wordpress blogs. Social can be beneficial if you hang in the right spots and speak to your target market.

It's really like that. I always start my day reading Tweeter and checking my Instagram account. But when I'm without Internet or phone I feel myself quite comfortable. The only thing that annoys is other people that always into their phones

Sffft, and we wonder why so many are not successful here!

I think that we need a "Experienced Warriors Only section"?

I have a love-hate relationship with social media. Like others have said, it can be great for businesses to expand their audience, but for personal use, I can definitely get caught up in it and spend too much time on there. I think it's all about finding that balance, making sure that you limit your time on social media to an appropriate amount.

I think social media is great when you are able to use paid marketing methods. I think you are correct that it takes up to much time when done manually, but if you have the financial support to do paid marketing campaigns than it could be a tremendous asset for your business.

So many businesses are on auto-pilot as a result of the paid marketing options available on social media. You just have to research the demographics and locations that will work best for all of your campaigns. This will take some time but after the research is done it's just a matter of a few clicks to get your campaigns started.
