There are quite a few. My friends were into heavy metal, and then punk.

Barry Manilow
ABBA
Pablo Cruise
Dan Fogelberg
Bob Dylan
Seals and Croft
England Dan and John Ford Coley
John Denver

Probably forgetting quite a few.

Of course I still like punk and some heavy metal. Not hair bands, in general. I prefer Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica (first 3 albums) and early Van Halen (pre-1984) and Motley Crue (1st two).

Never had too much trouble admitting I liked New Wave acts, even though my firends would give me a hard time about them.

Beatles, Stones, Who and Pink Floyd were acceptable among my peers.

I didn't appreciate other bands until later on.

I've never been afraid to admit it, but I've been given some stick (obviously, from non-music lovers) about liking these bands:

YouTube - ABBA - Dancing Queen

And early/mid Status Quo - a band that stubbornly stuck to 12 bars in an age of prog rock complexity. Pah. The bit at 3.25 into this track when the rhythm guitar goes solo is still one of my favorite moments in rock music

Hey Kim,

To me, it's a great video all the way around...The video is cool 60's style, the song is about suicide and drinking and not giving up, hardly typical Monkees, Mickey doing James Brown, and I actually compared the horns to James Brown before you brought him up. I really like this song. Alot.

I can't honestly think of anyone I would be ashamed of.

In fact, being non-conformist it would give me a charge if people disagreed with me.

Not many people like punks (and they like it like that). Guess that's one reason I like them. Heck I didn't become evangelical until I heard it was politically incorrect. (true story)

So while I am not ashamed it is always fun to watch people make faces at my choices.

In the OT it is hard to be disapproved because there are so many music experts you can always find someone who is hip to the music you like/liked/will like.

I'm a huge disco fan.

Really. Honestly. I listen to a surprising amount of Donna Summer. Hot Stuff is one of the best songs ever, and her version of MacArthur Park actually made that horrible song sound good.

I have several disco remixes on my list of things to do. There are a lot of songs out there that aren't disco... but could be. And I just think it's such a waste that they're not.

There's nothing wrong with the little river band, they are actualy pretty good imho

And if you dont want to dance a little when you hear 'I'm you're boogie man' or any other kc and the sunshine band disco hit...thats just not right

Liking these guys was a no-no, aside from being uncool, they were Londoners and you could imagine a Pearly King coming out for a knees up. *shudders*. The North/South rivalry was still alive and well.

Anyway, only grannies and uneducated working class oiks were supposed to like them.
