I "think" this is the same as I saw in another video. If I remember correctly, the range is 25 miles and top speed is about 68 MPH.

Flying vehicles like this would solve so many issues with infrastructure like roads and bridges. Think if all (or some of) the money and real estate devoted to roads and bridges could be spent on other things.

Think of the money saved on parking lots. Just let the flying car hover outside Wal-mart, while you do shopping.

You said the range is 25 miles. Well, the obvious solution is to simply fly it all day within that 25 miles. See?

And you are wrong about that top speed. I suspect a far faster speed...as you are dropping out of the sky like a rock.

But to be serious for a second...Good point about roads and bridges, but there would still be a need for roads and bridges...not everyone would want to fly. And how would you carry construction material to build shopping centers? I think their may be a need for roads for the foreseeable future.

Of course there will still be a need, but that need will be greatly reduced.

As long as we have to rely on the limitations of lithium Iron batteries it's going to be a bit of a novelty. It only translates to 20 minutes or so in the air.

Perhaps a few will be snapped up for fun rides, everyone gets to fly. Or a delivery drone for larger packages. Up to 200 lbs (saw another vid on it)

I wonder if you gould augment it with a small gas tank or solar panels, or both to get a little more air time and range out of it.

There are others that have a longer range, but are more expensive. If they can increase the range a bit they'll become viable.

I see the biggest issue is how fast they can recharge and/or swap out batteries. Unlike gas, there's electricity pretty much at every building in the US. Another issue is how they do in bad weather like rain and wind. And living in Colorado, I wonder what the top altitude is for them...

Because of the traffic and infrastructure issues they help I wish they were made a top priority.

Honestly, I think that's an incredible point. It would be easy to figure out how to tap into any building's electricity, and either the charge would go to the flyer...or the flyer would pay the electric company right there. A major problem solved, I think.

I would think that wind would be a major problem. But probably very quickly, the MFG would come out with stabilizers and a form of auto pilot.

beside the expense these things have now .. with the fears of terrorism ..or just dumb people .. flying vehicle will be stopped with regulation pretty damn fast ..

If some retarded person can hurt themselves with it it a terrorist can potentially use it to do some type of attack.. it will be limited and regulated and require licencing .. well before wide scale adoption ..

which is what is happening with drones at the moment .. because already we have stupid people flying them up high enough to potentially hit a plane .. and it would be easy enough for a terrorist to use them .. as criminal already try to use them to get drugs over the walls into prisons

there are a lot of freedoms being removed because of terrorism.. or because someone may hurt themselves ..

    It looks like fun, though.

    From "The Verge":

The Black Fly doesn't go very far or very fast, but it's all electric, amphibious (just in case), and you allegedly don't need a pilot's license to fly it.

Seems to be a 'one seater' - which is good because who in their right mind would be a passenger???

True, more of an release the clamps, fold out and fly around the place with your friends, while a drone tags alone and records it, for a one hour doc, on Youtube?

Quite the opposite. I am flush with renewed vigor.

Heading out to the lake, now. The latest addition to the dock. Must protect my delicate skin. Smooth as a baby's ass, even after all of these years. lol

Nonsense Claude, you would get a sexy female voice saying, "you have 30 seconds of flight time left, you are about to die".

More people die in car accidents than Plane Crashes. Thats far worse then the number of Air Accidents ! Sure someone will find the answer as soon as we stop car related deaths. Not happening anytime soon.

In city environments they would be autonomous. Because air space has multiple dimensions, unlike roads which are two dimensional which creates more complicated traffic circumstances, I believe it's actually easier to program them than it is for self driving cars.

NASA and Uber have already joined together to create "air traffic control" for autonomous "flying taxis".

Instead of having gridlock one one plane (level), there'd end up being gridlock on multiple levels.

All of the controls for these "autonomous vehicles" would have to go through a series of command centres which one would be one hack away from catastrophe. Al Qaeda will no longer have to hijack planes to fly them into skyscrapers, they can just hack into central command and have multiple vehicles crashing into skyscrapers, schools, hospitals, sporting events and more. There'll be no more renting trucks and driving them into crowds either. One hack and they can have multiple vehicles crashing into crowds.

It is a very, very, very stupid idea.

No, there wouldn't be gridlock on multiple levels. That's the point. But you're right, nothing can go wrong with our present traffic systems. No one ever dies and there's never any gridlock now. It's PERFECT!

And one hack can release all the water in a dam or cause issues with nuclear reactors. We better ban dams while we're at it.

Be sure to tell NASA and Uber how stupid they are. I'm sure they'll see the light and take your advice. I'll bet they haven't even thought of your issues.

well see if they where remote controlled vehicles instead of autonomous vehicles .. then what you say is accurate .. if autonus then no command center.. yes there is gps, and tracking income data from radar in the case of flying vehicles..

now even autonomous vehicles will be hackable and susceptible to computer viri ..but i do agree with you on the bad idea of flying vehicle in the hands of the masses.. at this stage .. there is already clutter in the air .

as for flying being safer than driving .. well it is a bad comparison .. when so much effort is put into making sure the pilots do their jobs and don't crash the plains.. if you put that kind of restriction on people driving cars .. which probably will happen after autous vehicles become common and safer.. you would have far fewer death

We are working on a uber version as we speak, and are exploring sensors in the ground giving a virtual road type thing, a bit like the freeway in Back to the Future 2, but without hovering road signs.

I would say that initially it will be the wild west or almost anything goes, until regulation comes in.

Police manned drones, lol, should make an interesting future.

But yeah, some dummy flipping this and headed towards the ground at high speed is the biggest concearn l have, so software and emergency reversing of the rotors needs to be in place.

He is going to mass produce this, but with a few hours charging time for a measly 15, 20 minutes flying time, not sure how popular it will be.

That is the Achilles heel with these devices, severely restricted flying times.

Which will most likely keep these devices in the rich/toy category, much like combustion engines were initially.

The main problems I see are the sound they make. Nobody is ever going to land one of these in their driveway, if they live in the suburbs.

And Elon Musk was on Joe Rogan talking about these flying cars. And he said that the main problem he saw was that they can't glide. If the propellers stop, you drop like a rock.

Helicopters blades start spinning in reverse (if they motor dies) and still provide lift. So you will land safely.

But they sure loo like fun.

As part of your 'continuing education,' allow me to inform you that they now manufacture aircraft with emergency parachutes. Imagine the potential for other iterations of that technology. :-)

Not sure about the noise, l have only seen drone toys being flown and they wearn't any noisier than a hairdryer.

Yeah, drop like rocks, but as Frank said parachutes would work.

Or emergency blades that would kick in and allow a survivable landing, but that obviously would require a closed system and another battery.

Multiply that in ratio of the difference in size between a toy and a real passenger carrying drone.

How many hair dryers is that? Additionally, is there anything louder on the planet for its size, than a freakin' hairdryer?
