Anyone else getting really annoyed by this?

I dropped a load of money (something like $97+) on having eBook covers to be created and it was full of "subliminal crap".

And when I see this kind of stuff it really annoys me.

Subliminal advertising (the way most people think of it) doesn't work well.

What subliminal crap are you talking about? Can you post a photo?

Funny thing I found Jonathan - whatever annoys me, frees me - which leads to greater success.

I used to be so annoyed about Warriors promoting their stupid eBook or course through their sig. Why not lead with value? Further analysis showed I feared my eBook was not valuable, hid it and promoted my blog home page.

Then I promoted my eBook via the sig file and Warriors bought it, appreciated eBook endorsements, talked about it. All rooted in my analysis of annoyance.

I will say this buddy; you probably won't use subliminal ads but will get clearer on a heart-centered approach resonant with you, to see greater success through that channel. Sometimes we need to do what annoys us; other times we need get clearer on the full 180.

    BTW....you are getting sleepy.....hehehehe.....

Abstract maybe. Honestly don't know. An example from years ago is a pizza that (very subtly) had the round pizza cutter look like a mine. No idea why they do this.

I hear that every single week.

Now that we are talking about subliminal images....I'm not sure Jonathan knows what they are. Maybe he means that the cover is made to be very appealing....or that there is advertising copy on the cover.

I'm not sure how a book cover could be subliminal.

Although books on dieting, with a fudge brownie on the cover...come close.

So say you write a book on how to make a fortune online passively, alright it may have a mugshot of you on the front, but in the background is a beautiful beachfront with people surfing and relaxing on the beach. suggesting that following your directions will lead to this 24/7 lifestyle. A bit more blatant than just subliminal, but that sort of thing.

That's what I'd call a good cover. It implies a certain promise...

And let's be clear about this...the vast majority of people looking to make money online...or in real estate...or with their own business...are buying into the fantasy.

And that fantasy is...not having to work. Just enjoying yourself with plenty of money an plenty of time to enjoy life.

In other words, not the attributes of anyone who would actually make lots of money in any business.

But that's who buys the books, courses, seminars.

The same reason that diet programs always advertise showing lots of food. The fantasy is..eat everything in sight...and lose weight without exercise or watching what you eat.

And that's the vast majority of the buyers of books on dieting.

so at this point .. i'm happy because i feel it wasn't just me who's reaction to Jonathan's original post ..

"Suggestive" isn't the same as 'subliminal'.

Beer commercials feature pretty girls and fast cars - diet books feature plates of food and - again - skinny models. Would you buy a beer advertised by a fat slob in a tight, dirty tshirt riding up over a beer gut? Would you buy a diet book that featured a photo of a plate with one piece of broccoli on it?

I think of Subliminal as showing you something you don't realize you've seen - trying to get to your subconscious without your conscious mind realizing you are being 'played'.

where those beer adds successful at selling product to consumers or successful at convincing retailers at least the beer company was trying to do something ..i think the people who drank the beer knew what they and others who drank the 30 packs looked like .. add and posters are for the retailers who wish they had the pretty customers .. not the 300 pound guy they have to make sure isn't already to drunk to buy more beer ..

and i don't know as far as the diet book go .. i always thought is wasn't fat people who bought them .. but people with a few extra pounds looking for tasty weight loss recieps in the back of the diet books ..i knew or know a lot of bigger people and i have never seen a stack or even one diet book around their house.. if they could not eat or drink what was inside.. they didn't buy a diet product

This is the most intelligent, insightful thing I have read in several days....and I never thought of it myself....and I should have..
A normal man, secure in his own self image...may compliment you on this insight. But I am not that man. My complete lack of self awareness, my petty jealousy, my absolute inability to learn from others, my non-existent self esteem...and my being intimidated by smart women...stops me from being gracious.

Yeah, subliminal mostly means something you can't see normally, but registers unconsciously..like a glass of whiskey, and the ice cubes in the glass have the images of naked ladies in them....

In my studies of advertising, these techniques were very ineffective. If you don't see it on a conscious level, your unconscious usually misses it as well.

Something related though is stuff like advertising a car, and have the sound of stampeding horses...to generate the image of horsepower. But it isn't the same thing as subliminal advertising...mostly gone now.

Not exactly subliminal, Las Vegas casinos have done a lot of research into not-so-obvious factors to get people to gamble more.

For example, they found that people respond best to the Key of C when it comes to sounds, so they tuned the coin drop to the Key of C, at least before they went coinless.

They also intentionally use "busy" carpets and ceilings to divert people's attention away from them so they look straight ahead to look at the gambling options. They've also found that certain scents encourage people to spend more time gambling.

Casinos also learned that chickens respond better when they aren't rewarded every time and there's an optimal frequency for rewards that encourage participation. Also, people get excited by "near wins" (losses that are "close") so casinos engineer both of these into slot machines.

In addition, they also encourage betting schemes (unless it's card counting), which is why they display the numbers that recently came up in roulette.

The only thing casinos really fear is seeing Claude headed for the buffet.

The interesting part is that people believe a miss can be a "Near win". Maybe in thowing a baseball..but not games of chance. I know you know all that.

yeah now buffets are like 25 or 30 dollars a person unless you get in on some special..

now as for the lowest element ..you are talking about vegas ..hard to get away from the lowest element ..

I've been in just about every casino and hotel on the strip (for speaking gigs).

One has a $40 seafood buffet that's amazing...

But I accidentally walked into a casino that ...I'm not joking...everyone in there wore evening wear. All the men had tuxedos...all the women had evening gowns. They all looked like models. Everyone that worked there...and all the guests. I asked if it was the Academy Awards, and the guy behind the counter looked at me like he just scraped me off the bottom of his shoe.

But the Sahara, at the very end...was the worst I had seen.
Until I met Dan Riffle. He is actually the worst thing I've ever seen.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

i remembered after posting the response about beer adds ..

the subliminal or suggestive part of the beer adds isn't that woman who look like that or are as attractive as that drink a lot of beer.. (when not in college ) it that as many men drink beer more woman look like that and they get the courage to talk to woman who look like that ..at least while they are drunk .. but definitely do not look that attractive when the man wake up to the woman.. ..i can only comment on the effect beer has on men though ..

Because of the business I'm in, I study ads. My first thought is "What appeal are they making?" and "How are they triggering an instinctual response?".

About beer commercials. One of the best beer commercials I ever saw was one where a yong handsome man orders a beer. The old bartender acts as though it's a big deal. As he sets the beer on the counter, and attractive woman walks up to the man at the bar...and he turns away from her to enjoy his beer...as the old bartender looks at him approvingly.

In other words, the beer is so good, you'll be turning down women.....and it puts the beer drinker in the position of being in demand.

The best photos I've ever seen for a retailer ad...is a photo of people in line around the block. Why? Because everyone desperately wants whatever they think everyone else wants.

        Well, whenever I've picked-up a 10, it was actually a 4 carrying a 6-pack! :-(

the great part about walking through the casinos in Las vegas every day when i worked on the strip ..was the high oxygen level inside the gambling area .. seeing how all that worked.. the digital games with very attractive women on the screen dealing..or well known celebrities ..

but Vegas has also purposely changed to have more of a family friendly atmosphere..and makes a lot of money outside the tables now.. so much of what would have been free 5 or ten years ago.. is you have to pay for.. a large amount of gambling revenue is from wealthy asian clients drawn in from china japan and india . and it depend where in Vegas you are.. as the strip operates differently from freemont street .. as the casinos on the strip are owned by different companies .. and freemount one guy has pretty much bough most of the casinos on fremont ....and I heard over and over that the slot machines where a lot more friendly on fremont than on the strip..
