Tie Assistance, Please

Greetings.

I've never been interested in fashion trends, and while I know that tie width styles change over time - what about knot preferences?

Is the Full or Double Windsor still considered a classic style that you can never go wrong, using?

Thank you.

My vote would be the one with the elastic so you don't even need to do a knot of any kind...that, or the open collar style.

Thanks - but that was no help whatsoever. lol I just realized that the majority of yokels that hang out, here, have probably never owned a tie. Or, shoes.

        Or in Claude's case, trousers.

I fear you're being silly, but I'll play along. Yes, you can wear a Full Windsor. However, you want to make sure your collar style matches your knot.

    Here's a good primer:

I was quite serious. I honestly don't know why you would think otherwise. When I have I ever posted anything to give you that impression? (confused).

Thanks for that resource. I believe it will be most helpful. :-)

I like the site below - because after all the directions for how to tie a knot....the site owner has photo of himself - with no tie.

The only thing you know how to tie is a bib.

I suggest bolo ties. They go with everything from zoot suits to tuxedos. Claude still wears bolo ties with his polyester leisure suits he stashed from the 70s.

Don't laugh. I remember selling life insurance...wearing leisure suits in the mid 1970s.

For some reason, they were considered very stylish.

And I had a 30 inch waist. And weighted less than 200 pounds until I was in my fifties.

Have you ever watched a documentary that showed the salmon swimming up stream...past water falls...past bears...?

And as soon as they spawn...they swim slowly for a week or two...as they slowly fall apart.

I'm in that fall apart stage.

Your need to preface your comments with "Dont laugh" is redundant.

I am laughing. I knew you wore leisure suit when you weren't wearing culottes. And no, leisure suits were never considered "stylish", nor were culottes on "men"..

Leisure suits are named after Claude as he has never done an honest days work in his entire life. Hanging-out near bus terminal men's rooms does not qualify as work. That is his passion.

Not sure they go with everything. Aren't cowboy boots, de rigueur??? [/QUOTE]

Well, having worn ties for the half of my corporate career that didn't involve factory management, my opinion is that Yes, a well-tied knot will never go out of style.

Double Windsor was the knot my dad taught me and I remember even getting weird comments about how "assertive" the knot made me look (don't ask me: they said it.)

If you mis-tie them, though, they look like crap. Our society is filled by people who only wear a tie when they're going to court so they don't get much practice.

I have been practicing with the assistance of YouTube videos. I was shocked to know how many there are, leading me to believe that I am not alone in my ignorance.

Well, funerals, also - but I'll confess to not wearing one at my sister's. Had I done so, she would have jumped out of her coffin and smacked me upside the head.

She know me well and always told me to be true to myself. :-)
