Hail the size of bowling balls, fell that day.

On this day in 1697 - Worst British hailstorm on record wreaks havoc from Hitchin to Potton, killing shepherd lad at Offley | Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth, Biggleswade News - The Comet

This article only mentions a sherper losing his life, but other sites discussing the same event reported individuals getting their necks broken by the projectiles.

Scary.

I remember reading about this in history class. I also remember reading about The Great Libel Case of 1697 where Amazon sued fledgling anti-everything-good "awards show" The Whattys for saying Amazon was responsible for the storm. It was the first documented case of fake news.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

They were responsible. Amazon had a large order for Ice for a party and used medieval drones to deliver it. Unfortunately they needed a lot as the ice was heavy. A freak lightning bolt caused an EMP pulse which caused all the drones to release their payload simultaneously.

Glad that a true historian was here to set the record straight.

Then you'll also remember that the judge threw the case out and awarded damages to Ye Olde Whattys Committee.

The judge was extremely scathing of the tactics employed by Amazon's legal reps, the firm of Dodgy, Shyster and Riffle, in particular Amazon's lead counsel, one Daniel Fauntleroy Riffle.

In addition to the punitive damages, the judge also declared that Whattys Committee members and their descendants were entitled to punch Mr Riffle and all his descendants in the face whenever they encountered them in perpetuity.

Mr Riffle claimed that he was appealing the decision which the judge scoffed at and declared, "Under no circumstances whatsoever will anyone ever find Mr Riffle appealing on any level".

I think you're forgetting that the Supreme Court threw out that decision based on proof that Ye Olde Whattys Committee had paid the judge 200 pounds for the decision.

The Higher Court ordered the Whatty's to pay each judge on the Supreme Court a judgment fee of an additional 200 pounds as punitive damages. In his legal notes, Supreme Judge Horace Pennyworth Fuddlepot referred to the payment as "What goes around comes around," the first known usage of the phrase.

Absolutely crazy. Amazing how the storm packed that much power to create something the size of a bowling ball. Reaching for an Earl Anthony - Lloyd Lindsey Young reference. Alas; no dice.
