Interesting that many animals and some plants have more DNA than humans. I admire those scientists trying to 'splain this stuff...

I've been fascinated for some time with the "Photo Ark" project. Just received 3 of the books - 1 for me and 2 for gifts

Saw an interview with Sartore not long ago. He has an amazing viewpoint about the animals he photographs. Interesting guy.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

My apologies if that is what you were referring to.

Interesting. Last year I provided tech support for one of his team and it was so very interesting. Prior to speaking with the person I knew nothing about what they did or how they did it and really enjoyed the experience. One thing I took from it all is there are two important aspects of doing it all the right way the first time: art and more art. Seriously!

The person I helped was tasked with remote photography which is no small task. Even after I solved the tech issue there was an issue concerning the artistic value which is an on-the-spot split second decision. I could not help them with that and in similar situations I would leave and focus on something else. In this case I found myself listening-in an hour later. So very interesting!

BTW, didn't know the most dangerous thing when remote filming (nobody present) are wild animals remotely spying on you when you pick-up the equipment, lol.

That's probably the one I saw - I'd read about the photographer before on the nat geo site but showing how he gets the photos and his respect for each species impressed me.

The books are absolutely gorgeous and for me it's calming to open the book at random and just look at a few pages of photos. Leaves me smiling every time..

  • Coolest thing 'bout DNA?

So much of it is shared between species.

I share mine with a mushroom colony in Bavaria.

Colony handles Toosdays, Wednesdays an' Thursdays & I fix up Friday to Monday -- meanin' anythin' posted by "Princess Balestra" midweek prolly been peed on by wild boar an' other forest denizens.

Jeffery - how cool to help with that project...in any way

The two things in the interview that made an impression were that every animal has either a white or black background - nothing more than that.

Also, every species "fills" the screen....in the pictures the smallest insect is the same size (photo wise) as the largest speicies. When asked why, Sartore said "each deserves equal space". I liked that.

I am not sure if it was for that particular project and I apologize for giving that impression. In this case they were getting live video's of different animals. Mostly bears.

Never met the man. Just a few people on the team. One thing I will say about the team is they were dead set on quality in all regards. I liked that.

Claude shares his with some jellyfish, but we all know that.

But it will be interesting to see if ancient DNA, (Mammoth for example) will be included.

I've long been a great fan of National Geographic because of the quality and the insistance on 'getting it right'. The NatGeo magazine and website is,to me, one of the few great values to be found.

Yes! Lovin' those pics of boobies. They shaped my pre-adolescent years. :-)
