Fiverr recently banned a very popular seller because of a meme

VoiceOverPete has been banned by Fiverr because of a credit card joke video he did for some gamers. He had at the moment of ban 250 orders of 50$. That's 12,000$ in revenue and whatever the amount he already had in his account. He was banned without a warning.

The good side of the story is that he started out on patreon and he already has a lot of subscribers. He even got a shoutout from Pewdiepie.

    What you guys think?

I think it's interesting how many people jump into defending someone in a story like this.

I tried to discuss with other sellers on the Fiverr forum about this issue, but all we got was our threads deleted.

You used their platform to argue with their decision about enforcing their own TOS ...why should Fiverr provide the venue for that?

The man made a 'funny' video...it gave people ideas so the orders were pouring in for similar videos....which were made in front of a green screen reading the words ordered and allowing buyers to insert anything into the background after the fact. Do you not see a problem with that? Do you believe 250 orders were all for a 'laugh' - or that scammers saw a way to potentially get cc or contact info?

Fiverr has a right to decide what is and is not allowed to be sold on their site. Some will always complain 'not fair'. Meanwhile - the furor over the meme and 'save Pete' will bring in more money for him....

Pete took it in stride didn't get upset and shifted strategy ..i personally don't get upset for things that happen to people .. that they don't get upset about and grasp why it happened.. he understood why he got banned .. and was openly .. or went to great effort to not look upset .. and laugh about it and explain turn it into a marketing strategy ..

so my opinion doesn't matter much ..i'm not going to be upset for something that didn't happen to me .. and that the person it happened to ..is turning it into an opportunity ..

and Key i agree with you view of not using a platform to argue about someone getting banned from the platform for a tos violation .. you have also mention in the past the real bad strategy of depending heavily on a single ..
      platform ..

Saw that on a Pewdiepie video by chance.

Fiverr is really looking to make their website the shittiest marketplace online.

I don't mind that since the majority of gigs there are useless.

It became "I'll pretty much do anything for $5".

Yeah, sure. I'm not talking about the name or what it stands for. I'm talking about all the creepy gigs pooping in every day where someone offers a logo that they got from Canva or elsewhere.

Fiverr was (for a short period) a good ONLINE MARKETPLACE where people offers services related to ONLINE MARKETING SERVICES.

Now it because a controversial place where anyone could do anything for 5$.

Take for example the majority of link building services there... Do you really believe you'll get decent results from them? In most cases you're just going to end with Spammy links that will provide more harm than good.

well .. the sarcasm in my other post aside this time.. i think or i was led to believe fiver was always like this .. and it was a matter of learning to find the quality people among the non quality people ..with inital low cost gigs

and 20 plus years online .. everything has always had this golden age that lasted a short period of time where the service was so much better than now .. ever game or service or new ish thing

No - it became if you think you can get anything on Fiverr any longer, beyond a, 'Hello," for $5, you haven't been paying attention.

That said. I depend on Fiverr for things I can't or don't want to do and have never been disappointed. I've have received great quality at prices of around a tenth of what I would have paid regularly.

These are the videos that got him banned:
Attention All Gamers Enter your Credit Card Info (VoiceOver Pete) MEME COMPILATION TRY NOT TO LAUGH - YouTube

I don't see the problem. Not only should he be banned but he should be held liable for any bad that comes from those videos.

The only thing missing is a signature link.

Yes, but every forum has a pet idiot. Don't be mad that he squeaked-out a win over you, for the title. It was extremely close! :-)

We don't have freedom of speech when on another's property. You can't come to my house and have the freedom to call my wife names. There is no freedom of speech on this forum - many posts are deleted daily for violating the rules. And, apparently, Fiverr has rules about what it allows. Same goes for Facebook, Twitter, and others.

Nothing new or strange or anything out of the ordinary. It's always been that way.

True, but I have always believed there is far more tolerance, here, as long as you're not doing anything truly dishonest or malicious.

I think I'm living proof of that - and I am grateful. Sometimes I think about banning myself for being such a douche, but, let's face it - - - I'm just so damn lovable. In the end, I always wind-up forgiving myself. :-)

At least I'm not, "Top Douche." No matter how hard and for how long I might try, I'll never be able to beat the main competition for the title - and I'm not big on ever admitting defeat. Additionally, I have to work very hard to achieve my level of douche. It comes naturally, to my competition.

A good few views from their show you posted too.
