    Kind of scary. Imagine visiting a loved one in the centenary. Your walking down a quiet pathway between the headstones, lost in your thoughts, when all of a sudden a headstone screams "Boo."

      Or a hacker got access and there was a sea of porn as far as the eye can see.

      This is a bad idea, and should only be allowed in cenetary's that want high tech, stupid additions.

    I see the appeal. Myself? It would be heartbreaking to hear my wife's voice after she died. It would be torture.

    My Dad had a brother that looked almost exactly like him. After my Dad died, It was painful to be in the same room as Uncle Dale....I would just stare at him, feeling sad.

    There is a downside to not believing in an afterlife.

    Yikes, just a little misguided. They could perhaps celebrate their friends lives or learn how to cope and move on in a healthy way and then share that with others.

    Naah, instead let's just log their daily interactions with tech so the living left behind can interact with a algorithm.

      It appears that is where it is going. I believe that specific cultures will like it to some extent. The Japanese already have customs that communicate to the dead usually starting after the first 49 days.


      Monetizing death... too morbid for me though I do see ways funeral homes could do it.

        Years ago, I was at a Dan Kennedy marketing event. Someone had a funeral home, and the audience was charged with giving programs to make more money for the funeral home. It was astounding how many programs, services, and products were suggested, some of them quite lucrative.

        I remember buying a recording of the event, thinking I may take the ideas presented and sell a marketing manual to Funeral homes.

        The truth is, I never understood why we had funerals, burials, wakes, viewing hours, any of that. It's incredible what we consider normal, even expected, if we see a ritual often enough....and enough other people do it.

    what one of the things i kept repeating .. that i worry that 30 years in the future my kids won't have to ask me what i was doing now or in five years from now.. that with all the data being complied .. at some point people will just check the virtual record and simulate what you where doing now ..

    i give that level of data collect another 10 years ..once we have computers you can carry around that have more processing power than your brain.. but a lot of our data is being collected ..and can give people a personality type ..more acurate than you know yourself ... unles you purposly mess with the data you are producing ..

    as for this ..pprogram.. so so .. i think it will be a slight comfort ..like video tapes or recording or letters .. but it will lack that something real people have .. at least the ones you care about

    unless of course AI's learn to Use Avitars of those you care about .. in order to manipulate you

    Seems this guy fleecin' the livin' outta all kindsa personal data on a promise that they gonna pass into the afterlife without bein' fleeced.

    If I am to be speculatively spirityool here, I would wanna be reincarnated from sum Ancient Egypt Nile gal.

    She hangs out by the river, she got cats, likely she is on the emergency Pharaoh Mummification team ... yanno, jus' tryin' to play her part.

    An' prolly she got a neat tattoo on her ankhle ... plays a wind instrument she carves out herself.

    Aw, gosh -- I am overcome with the sheer romance of my potential origins!

    True, we go to the cemetery to visit our loved ones and drop of some flowers, and see white screens pushing funeral insurance.

    Anything with a screen will attract advertising.

    This reminds me of a time when the local shopping ctr, tried to put a small screen in the middle of all the food court tables, and speakers.

    And did everyone embrace this, nope,....the plastic trays were put over this screen of endless advertising, and the tables with speakers were avoided like the plague.

    They were removed in the end.

    I expect that if advertising ends up on these things, then smashed screens will be the norm, human beings will only take so much BS.

      I don't know why it would be different for them, more so than for anyone else. When I watch old movies of loved ones, especially the dearly departed, I experience the full gamut of human emotions through a sensation in my mind reminiscent of a whirlwind.

      I know this sounds crazy, but I love the feeling of profound sadness that can wash over me in those moments. I can't put in the words the dichotomy of how feeling so instantly and intensely sad, brings me a such strange sense of unbridled elation.

      Very hard, usually, to make sense of it all, but in those moments I feel incredibly alive.
