Don't use my blog anymore...what next?

I really don't use my blog anymore, but I don't necessarily want to delete it either because I don't want to lose my posts. I am however looking to bring my blog down to just the minimum with minimum costs. I use HostGator as my domain host for my WordPress.org blog. Due to some hacking issues a couple years ago I have since been paying for SiteLock and Akismet for added security on my blog.

Ideally I would like to either save all my posts onto an offline file I can still view, or I would like to cut some unnecessary costs due to my blog being all but inactive.

I'm not sure what to do...

Do I really need both SiteLock and Akismet or would just one suffice?
Is there a way to save all my posts to Word, PDF, etc. and then close/delete my blog?
Is it possible to set my blog entirely to private, that way making the added securities unnecessary?
How/where can I cut costs without losing all my content or making my blog vulnerable again?

Can anyone give me suggestions?

Do you get any traffic to those blog posts?

The answer may help you decide whether to fully close it or not.

      No, not to my knowledge.

It was really just a travel updates for friends and family, when I made use of it.

You can protect yourself for free with All In One WP Security. I have been using it for years and never got a problem. But you do need to activate all the security things, like changing the link of the login page, changing database name, username, brutforce protect and all like it. You got hacked via Wordpress, therefore you can secure from it.

Also, consider moving your blog to a cheaper host. I got problems with gator a couple of years ago when they lockout my blogs for over-usage of resources without notifying me prior it and without even help me fix the issue. I use namecheap now and I am pleased with their services and prices.

Regarding saving your posts, I am sure there are some addons for backups, you just need to do some research.

    Loretta,

Lots of ways to close a blog. Permanently and temporarily. You can export the blog to your home computer and upload it to the same or a different host at a later date.

Where a blog does not have a lot of pages and posts, yet you would like to save the pages and posts to your home computer in Microsoft Word or PDF you can do that as well.

An easy way is to go to your website and print the pages and posts in PDF and save them to your home computer.

Your browser must have a PDF Printer. Here is a guide pdf.wondershare.com

Alternately just enable your browser to print PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat. Here is a Google link for FireFox with easy instructions: Google link

That's one of the funniest things I have ever read on this forum. Be honest. You can do that for 20 years and have no business - well, no income, anyway.

True. According to his signature he earns $100 daily doing just that, so the Secret Magic Button is finally revealed.

Yeah sure, I read somewhere that traffic from Ghosts is the best converting type. The formula is quite simple: Just write one post per day and interested ghosts & spirits will jump on your offers.

For sites I take down and yet want to keep the content, I print each page to a pdf file and save it in Dropbox.

    Hi Loretta,

    A few ideas:

    - think abundance/gain, not loss; keep the blog live but use strong a strong password to help prevent hacking
    - close comments; since I closed mine, hacking attempts dropped like a freaking brick
    - leave the blog up; gain passive traffic and save your content...you lose nothing
    - not a tech guy but my develop noted CloudFlare could help secure your blog

If you're looking for cheap hosting, http://estarr.com is a good option.

I'd also vote to keep the blog online if possible and jumpstart the content if you'd actually like to do something with it in the future. But if you are positive you do not want to do anything with it - you could save it offline somewhere like mentioned.
(Or I personally save my unpublished items to Evernote..)
