Greetings from the Grand Ol' Optie
Just checking in to say hello and let you know what I have been doing. If you're afraid of hard work, or like to do nothing more than 'talk' about completing your projects, but never actually work at them, stop reading, now - lest you embarrass yourself. If that's possible, of course.
I started building-out my new forum on December 27th by taking a forum I had built for a client, who did nothing with it, so migrated it to a new server. I then deleted all of the contents, which were nothing more than a few forums, sub-forums, topics and posts.
The first thing I did was install 104 extensions to expand the capability and functionality of the forum. After extensive testing, I chose to delete two of them. One for redundancy with another extension and one because I didn't like the aesthetic effect on the home page real estate.
Then over the course of 2 weeks of working on average 10 hours per day, 7 days per week, I created 42 top level forums and around 650 sub-forums. That's not a typo folks. That's 650 sub-forums. I then created 772 Initial topics in those sub-forums. A full 535 topics were created that contains biographical information from Wikipedia on that many individuals relating to the subject matter of the forum, their photograph and a link to their website.
I started this thinking it would take months to accomplish, so I am more than ahead of schedule for launching this puppy. I had no help, whatsoever as it was important that I prove to myself that I am as competent, committed and as awesome as I keep telling you people I am. lol I have proven my point and surpassed my own expectations, which has resulted in me having a question for the universe - "Who's your Daddy???"
The forum was phase one of my project. It is married to a new Internet radio station that I am currently building. The equipment is arriving day by day. I was hoping that Apple would have released their new Mac Pro by now so I could have migrated my current one to the dedicated workstation being built for the station. No luck, as of yet. That's phase two.
Phase three is a new website for the radio station which is already under construction, but since I'm doing all of this on my own, it will be a while before I get this completed. I have farmed out the graphics (not my forté) and have written scripts for my promotional videos, both humorous and serious in nature. I also have to do all of the Social Media, which I loath even contemplating. What a disgusting thought that will certainly suck the joy out of the rest of this project. What can you do? This is the depraved world we live in.
I have no actual date in mind for completion. I figured that since I deal with myriad health issues on a daily basis, I would only be putting undo pressure on myself by trying to stick to a schedule. Since I only have to be accountable to myself, I see no reason to sabotage my efforts. It's done when it's done. That said, there's no one harder for me to please, than myself - and I have proven that I can work as long and as hard as anyone much younger and in perfect health. I am an animal. lol
FYI - phpBB has not so much as hiccuped since I started this project. I highly recommend this script for anyone. I generally don't do 'free,' but it was sitting around so I figured I'd start playing with until it acted-up so I could move on to vBulletin, for which I have an unused license, but forget it. This script purrs like a kitten. It look a bit dated, but who am I to complain about that? Of course, it could be a different story once there are a slew of active users.
So - that's my story at the moment. I'm feeling great, working hard (and smart), am enjoying the hell out of what I doing, without being passionate about it. Honey is great, too. I'm doing more live shows on my current station as the mood strikes and am looking forward to my next 30 years. lol
I appreciate the minuscule number of kind words that have been said about me and that my absence was noticed. For those of you that PM'd me, I apologize for not responding, but I really wanted to get a month under my belt of just concentrating on getting my work accomplished.
Hope that everyone's 2019 is off to a good start. I'll see you in another month.
Cheers,
Optie
