The difference between Internet Marketers that struggle and those that thrive?

There are so many young Internet Marketers flashing cash money fans and flaunting a lifestyle that appears impressive to some. Meanwhile there seems to be a large majority of Guru Wannabe Internet Marketers lacking focus and chasing after one biz op after another. Unlike other things, people in Internet Marketing can fake it a bit. You can look like an expert even if you don't know anything about the industry, withdrawal your entire pay cheque and wave it around like you got something, or you can come off as a person with a positive mindset by quoting inspiring and motivational leaders.

Many Internet Marketers seem to struggle and in reality have taken out a second mortgage or borrowed absurd amounts of money from family members to start a company. Sometimes these Internet Marketers suffer from shiny object syndrome and keep spending more than what is being made hoping for some "push button software" instead of using it as a tool.

The faster you quit a bad idea, the sooner you can start another idea that shows more promise. When it becomes apparent that there is trouble ahead, knowing when to pull the plug can help minimize financial disaster.

When it comes to Internet Marketers that do thrive it usually is because there is a genuine interest and devoted passion. If you are doing Internet Marketing because it looks cool than you should probably have an honest thought about if this lifestyle is right for you.

If you need your sleep and dislike going to bed late or getting up early or because you just want to be your own boss than this might not be right for you. Those that are truly successful and thrive in Internet Marketing tend to work until goals are reached instead of stopping when tired or hungry. Working for yourself means you have many bosses since your customers are your bosses and you better deliver.

The other attribute of Internet Marketers that seem to thrive is independence. Leaders lead by example by executing simple plans effectively. If you feel the need to have a coach or mentor without putting in some effort before seeking guidance than perhaps you need to be lead which is fine as having structure and certainly is why the mass majority work a job.

Those that have truly obtained financial freedom typically got there by helping as many people as possible by providing products or services that deliver value instead of focusing on recruiting to line the pockets off the hard work of others.

Success is the sum of small efforts repeated daily.

The "gurus" who show themselves with flashy cars, girls and expensive mansions make everything about them, not their customers. Besides, the fake it till you make it crowd can easily hire all that stuff for a day and a photographer to make them look cool and successful.

I've found that the best mentors don't wave their wealth in your face but have a genuine passion to help people better themselves and achieve success in this niche.

And they never tell you that what they're selling (like a course) will make you rich in 30 days. They all tell you that you have to put the work in to see the results (not what a lot of newbies want to hear).

Consistency and focus are the keys. And developing the self discipline to continue with those when things don't seem to be working or you hit what seems to be an insurmountable obstacle.

The successful marketers don't give up at the first hurdle. They find a way around it. They pick themselves up again and again when they fail. Remember that we learn from our mistakes, not our successes.

Any budding marketer should read Straight-Line Leadership (it's on Amazon) so that they put themselves in the right mindset for success both personally and professionally.

Getting better at ads and writing copy. That's 90% of the success that I've seen. The rest is learning how to scale without dying. But that's a stage way later.

I've been quite successful with internet marketing for around 6 years. Here are some things that helped me.

    1. Focus. Pick one business model, one marketing strategy and take massive action.
    2. Learn MARKETING. Take the time to study HOW TO GET TRAFFIC. This might just be the top skill of successful internet marketers.
    3. Avoid shiny objects at all costs.
    4. Find a mentor who is more successful than you and humble yourself enough to listen to them.
    5. Invest in your business education. Read books, hire coaches, attend events, etc.
    6. Take all out massive action, no dabbling allowed.
    7. Learn from each mistake, stay the course and let the Slight Edge principle work for you.
    8. Have realistic expectations. The goal your first year is simply to learn and survive.

These are some of the things that have helped me. I hope they help you too.

IMers have a unusual drive that goes beyond money. An old mentor of mine used to tell me everything in this space is all about mindset. If you get your mind right you can succeed in IM.

Mentorship is critical. I also think the ability to think independently and not be focussed on what the next person is doing. The most successful people I've seen in this game have a fundamental structure that they've been taught by someone, and then have used their own creative thinking to pursue a variation of this.
