Hi Guys,

I have been on another forum where I was trolled by someone.
This troll somehow got into my youtube account and showed what youtube videos I was watching.

So something like this "How can we take this guy seriously when he wathces xyz" and even put up my thumbnails of the youtube videos.

How the heck did they do this?
Could someone of this forum do the same?
Any ideas of how or what I can do about it, most welcome.

  • There's a million and one ways that could happen. Here's a very limited selection, bear in mind these suggestions are the tip of the iceberg.

    - The forum you were on had poor security
    - Your password or security questions were possible to work out (possible social engineering situation)
    - Your youtube settings are such that your history is visible to everyone

    To answer your actual questions

How the heck did they do this?
As above, you'll probably never know

Could someone of this forum do the same?
It could happen to anyone. The more information you give out the more chance of it happening. I doubt there's anything specific about this forum to be concerned about any more than any other forum.

    - Don't give out any personal information to anyone, that includes email address
    - Use different passwords for everything
    - Think about everything you do on the Internet, if you don't want something public, research how to keep it private. For example YouTube security settings.

Retrospectively, there's not always a way to undo damage that has been done. But taking the steps above will go some way to minimising the impact and future risk.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly - DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS

If someone is trolling you online, block/ignore them, why continue to interact? What do you have to gain? Absolutely nothing.

This is all basic Internet security advice that most children are taught at school and by parents. If you are struggling with this kind of thing and it is important to you then you should consider looking at local collages who maybe do a short series of evening classes for people who are less familiar with basic Internet principles and security.

Yep good advise, if you call them a Troll then they will run about and claim that you are, (eventhough everyone can see that they are).

And a troll typically when replying, Never apologizes, is always right, and Always baits their replys, to keep the argument running for as long as they can, (their sick little minds needs to constantly put others down to feel good about themselves).

And the other thing that distinguishes a troll, usually not very intelligent, or it is easy for others to wind them up and let go, so if they get banned the silent partner can think, l am safe and pity he got banned for life, (similar to a drug lord, eventhough they typically get shot or thrown in prison).

You can report a troll, ignore a troll, but Never reply to one.
