Cats for only one reason, I don't have to walk them every day. But as far as loving them, it's about the same.

Two big dogs - Gracie and Sandy

I have always had dogs and cats (and, yes, that's plural)...
Don't know how people live without animals around them. They are everything from a sounding board to a foot warmer.

My wife said that she didn't want indoor pets, so the first 30 years of our marriage we had no pets. And we bought all new expensive furniture, and decided that pets were out of the picture.

But I grew up having dogs and cats. And although I love dogs, I usually bonded more with a cat. No idea why.

One day I saw a photo of Mac on the Shelter website, and knew he was for me.

Cheryl is a fantastic mom to the two cats. Had I known that she would like them, I'd have adopted a cat years ago.

Of course, in two years of having cats, our home has lost maybe $10,000 in value from the damage...and our furniture is now worth about $25. total....

But dozing off in a recliner...sitting next to the woman I love...with a cat sleeping in my lap....is about as good as it gets.

Of course, the 5AM "Hey DAD! It's time to WAKE UP!" activity is less than ideal. But I can't help but laugh as I hide under the blankets.

C,mon Claude we all know that the cat has dug its claws in, and the only reason you are relieved that your wife is near is so she can tear it off.

They aren't trying to wake you up. They're just checking to see if it's time to eat you yet.

Mac has a habit of waiting for me around a corner...to ambush me. And as I walk by, he leaps out and wraps his paws around my ankle...and tries to take me down.

I know what he's thinking "Every day, you're getting older and weaker. Some day...Some day"

          My cat has ambition.

We have several scratching posts too...but for whatever reason, our cats love to sharpen their claws on our leather furniture.

Honestly, when we got married, I didn't want pets either. Now that I think about it, I don't really remember why the idea of getting a cat occurred to me....maybe I saw one in a pet store, and got me missing the cats we had when I was a kid.

4 dogs and a cat that thinks she is a dog here. All girls. My weiner dog has recently gone deaf. She is old - probably 10 or so - but it came on kind of sudden. I need to take her to see the doc to see if it's old age or something else.

Even though we get irritated with them at times when they do something wrong - just like kids - they are family and I can't imagine being without them.

the 5AM "Hey DAD! It's time to WAKE UP!"

Our cats are like that - but my d-in-law is an early riser so she handles the morning feed.

Gracie is the only dog I've ever had who is never in a hurry to get up in the morning. She has a memory foam bed with her fave red plush blanket on it. She will sleep in as late as I will - she will doze after I get up while I putter and shower and dress....every dog before Gracie was alert and active the moment I opened my eyes in the morning. She's like 'let me know when I need to move'...

I don't have either yet. I grew up with dogs and loved them all. We had a beagle and a German Shepherd. I think the dog would be higher maintenance, but much more affectionate than a cat. I could be wrong. I'd be happy with either. Sadly, my wife is allergic.

You shouldn't tear up Claude just because they released this message...

Due to circumstances beyond our control the Captain Marvel franchise will be discontinued, due to boredom in coming up with new story's, dull fight scenes, cliche ridden conversations and the fact that the Earth is always getting taken over by some alien race.

With the only reason we allowed this one, is a female may limp it over the line, (bored housewives, etc) and we basically spun guardians and Transformer storylines, so it took a weekend for the scripts.

PS we are still doing another 20-30 spidy spinoffs, with at least three new actors for spidy, not because he is getting too old just that we need the occasionally murder to keep up our motivation.

Grew up with a Dog and later in life inherited 3 cats. Put 2 down sadly and had the 3rd one by itself for years. It was a Persian Calico and it was such a gentle cat that enjoyed sitting on my lap getting pets. You can google images to see what they look like.

Miss both the dog and cat, but I would replace the cat first because it was very low maintenance. Never needed to be walked, put out the food and fresh water and it was set. You could leave for a day or two and it would be fine. I still miss the cat several years later.
I would not consider a dog because it would lack the attention it would deserve.

I currently have a Conure (small parrot) one of four, that we got when the cats were alive. (cats were declawed, in case you were wondering) It has a great personality that is very entertaining. Every morning when I get up it sings, and waits for it's daily treats.

If anyone is looking into a charity or getting a dog or cat, look up tazewell county animal shelter, That rescues & relocates missed treated dogs and other animals, from the Appalachian area to be adopted and moved to a new owners home. A lot have been adopted and moved into the New England area.

It's only Labs that detect diseases & Cancer

I've read that but don't believe it. My pit bull insisted on constantly sniffing the breath of and licking the mouth of my son's 5 yr old black lab.

Gracie did not do the 'mouth sniffing' with the 3rd dog or with visiting pets - only with the lab. No one believed me when I said 'something is wrong' but then the lab went into seizures - diagnosis: brain tumor that was 'likely' malignant.

It may be only labs can be trained to detect disease on command but I've seen proof several times over the years that dogs detect 'problems' in dogs they live with.

Kay; I know you know this..but I was joking about Labs. A play on words.

Dogs have a sense of smell 44 times (on average) our sense of smell. and cancer and other diseases have an odor.

What amazes me is that they show concern. They try to tell us that something is wrong. That's what's so incredible to me. Dogs love us and care about us, in ways that are not shared by cats.

Dogs are just simpler versions of ourselves. I'm convinced of that.

There! You made me say it. Dogs have poor poop aim. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Plus, scientists work in Labs to try to cure diseases and cancer.

      Ever think of that?

I think I made my point.
And they put it on the market at a reasonable price range, (cancer drug) like 200k a year.

But dogs, yes, grown up with both, and dogs you have to walk, or they bark all night.

Clean up after them, (l have fond memories of that when l was a kid).

Male cats can also be a chore, with taking themselves for walks and getting stuck up a tree, regulary, as well as their headbutting skills being legionary.

Female cats all around are the better choice.

Although when a cat plonks itself in front of an open fire, and sparks land on him, and he doesn't move while the smell of burning fur fills the room is commendable.

As is the growling when someone picks him up, which is better than a bucket of water.

Hi Audrey - haven't seen you here for a while.

I had the same thing about 10 years ago -4 dogs who were about the same age -= I had a rough couple years. My Gracie is 10 this spring and I keep wanting to turn back the clock.

I also have a pet racoon.
I had a whole family of those in Mississsippi - they lived in the woods across the street and came to my front porch every evening. One would walk up the drive and around to the front door on the walkway - look to see if there was food.... If so, he'd turn around and leave and be back in 5 minutes with 4 more - another adult and three young'uns. If there was no food out, he would climb up on the flower box on the window and stare at me until I got the message. Pushy little beggers. I miss them.

Have you ever tried pooping in a box? I have, and it's really hard to do. it takes exceptional flexibility, style, and grace.

Dogs don't poop in a box, because their aim is so bad.

There! You made me say it. Dogs have poor poop aim. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Plus, scientists work in Labs to try to cure diseases and cancer.

        Ever think of that?

Isn't that Pinch a Loaf, oh, no, we can't say that Claude will get hungry again.

As well as him working with Hasbro on his top secret game, (Hungry, Hungry Claude).

They are still having technical delays, (they cannot figure out how to get as many jam and cream fillet round donuts into his mouth without them being squished) one young technician mentioned adding whipped cream but it quickly went into X rated territory.

Surprised at how many responded with 'cats - because they are less work'. I've never worried about work when it comes to pets - I enjoy them.

Except perhaps this week when family is out of town and I have to get up early to feed the cats because my d-in-law usually feeds them the 'good' canned food at 5:30 AM. Nothing like waking up with a cat's face 4 inches from yours as he meows his explanation of why he needs food NOW.

The dogs sleep in till I wake - the cats have a SCHEDULE and won't let me forget it.

  • Dogs can be intelligent and understanding its a two way relationship
while cats can be cute but not that smart only care for their needs like food, bath
but when iam angry as soon as i cuddle the cat it fades away! Dogs can be reasonable sometimes but a cat will hunt you of you are small like 6inch.

After having both dogs and cats I think it comes down to what you're looking for in a relationship with your animal. If you love the idea of having an animal there, but not much interaction with you then go cat. They're very self-sufficient. If you want an animal that is more engaging, can take outdoors with you but requires more work I would go dog.

No, probably because that looks eerily familiar to getting the last cookie from the very large cookie jar, early in the morning.

And after half an hour or squeezing, and running out of air, when he does achieve his goal, his wife and two cats, are the only ones that can release him,...that and falling down the stairs, which isn't advisable,....tends to lose the cookie in all of the broken porcelain.

          OK, that was funny.

I once bought a collar to put on my cat Mac. He struggled a little as I put it on. As soon as it was on, he went limp...and played dead for several minutes. I'd pick him up, set him on the floor, and he's just plop down like a rock.

I called my wife in to see it. We laughed hard for several minutes. Finally, I couldn't take it any longer...so I took off the collar, and Mac just walked away as though nothing happened.

I still can't think about it without smiling.

But I have to say, I think dogs are the closest thing to experiencing real..unfettered...unconditional love.

But it's almost impossible for me to look at a cat and not start laughing.

But I have to say, I think dogs are the closest thing to experiencing real..unfettered...unconditional love.

But it's almost impossible for me to look at a cat and not start laughing.

I feel the same way about you.

I have to wonder...did Mac wear a collar at the shelter? I have a feeling there's some negative connection from his past.

Also, I just posted yesterday on FB an article about dogs' secret power being love. The article told how dogs were given MRIs and when they saw their humans the part of the brain responsible for the emotion of love lit up.

Science has known for decades that dogs are the most social of all mammals, even more than people, and need pack members. Dogs were never intended to be left alone outside.

I wanted a rottweiler for a long time before I got one. Then, I'd tell myself, "When I get a rotty no one better mess with me or my rotty will kick their butt!"

Literally 30 minutes after I got my rotty puppy I told myself, "No one better mess with my rotty or I'll kick their butt!"

Dogs' secret superpower: not intelligence, but love
The reason dogs are our best friends is not because they're smart, but because they're built to love us back.

No idea about the collar. He didn't have one on when we adopted him.

But now that you mention it, my wife had a collar on when I met her.

I think you'll find it's actually a racehorse goanna. The setting (trees etc.) is most definitely Australian.

Not quite as big as a komodo, but can still grow up to 1.5 metres in length (~ 4ft, 6in).

Therefore if you stood it upright, from tip of nose to tip of tail it would be twice as tall as Dan Riffle.

Cats are something soft fluffy and warm but theres no getting away from them if they want something they keep on miaowing forever.

Dogs, depending which breed they are, they have their specific personality.

Please do some researches before buying a dog to make sure that it suit your lifestyle.

Generally speaking, pets don't do well in care of somebody that its too busy. Enjoying cuddling a pet is well different from feeding the pet, taking him for a walk and cleaning after him.

      ^ This ^

My dog is so honest with me. When I ask him what he wants to do today he says he wants to sniff butts. When I as my cat what he wants to today he says he wants to go fishing.

      So honest.

There's a sub plot in this that I find really funny. One woman is on a chair, then holds her heart. At the same time another woman has the lizard by the tail and is so comfortable she seems to turn TWICE and say something to the people or specifically the woman on the chair.

Why is she so comfortable holding a big lizard by the tail walking through a restaurant and where are they going?

I'd say that it's a regular occurrence there. The lizards (racehorse goannas - see above) are expert scavengers and I've no doubt it's had to be removed by the staff on numerous occasions. Despite their size they're afraid of humans unless of course you get them cornered. Then, you back away from them slowly and let them get on with whatever they're doing. Don't try running because they're not called "racehorse" goannas for nothing.

Interesting fact: Dan Riffle had a long and illustrious career as a Jockey, riding Racehorse Goannos in various events across Australia, before a torn scrotum forced him to give it up and move into banking.

            Fake news.

It is a scientific fact that garden gnomes don't have anything at all in the trouser region, let alone a scrotum.

I can say this with absolute certainty. If you enjoy having sex with your wife......consider a goldfish.

Dogs and cats will spend your entire "joy time" jumping on the bed or scratching at the door, yelling "What's going on, Daddy? Pay attention to me! ".

A dog is like having a baby. Sex is no longer part of your life...or a full night's sleep...

but you sure will laugh more, and enjoy the day more.

I find it very hard to believe that you, or anyone else for that matter, lasted 55 seconds let alone 55 minutes before giving Claude a clip around the ear.

Cats - because they are self-sufficient animals, do not require constant attention. can be left alone at home for several days
