First, make sure the debt collectors can't find you. Don't use your real address when registering to vote. That's how many d/c find you. Don't have magazine subscriptions from big-name magazines. Never tell your card issuer your real address or phone number. Go paperless billing online. Never "update" your contact info "for security reasons" this has only one purpose: To sue you. Seven years ago I walked away from 44k of debt having credit cards initially with 6% interest rates then jumping up to 28% have never been late in paying. So, screw 'em. They asked for it. Then my credit score was in the toilet. I took all the money I saved and bought a car, made 5 payments, then paid the car off in full. This made my credit score jump 200 points! Now, I'm debt-free with great credit.
