The Pet Traveler

I'm thinking about is using a site called www.Uship.com It's a freelance shipping company, kind of like Uber, but for long-haul deliveries.

They have a category for pets with people seeking rides to have their pets transported all across the US. I'm thinking about doing this sometime in the future, not for the money really.

I'd get a van and make it nice for the pets. I figure it's a good way to pay for traveling expenses, have some company on road trips and help families get back together.

Not sure I'll do it, but am thinking of it in a few years.

Are you thinking about doing anything a little different?

  • Gotta figure Quitstarinatmyboobies.com could be a winnah.

That way, I could filter out advances from guys don't want me jus' for my brains.

For anywan whose attention sits the unpalatable side of awkward, there would be promise of Karate Ballet Gals.

See cos I dial up my app when Cap'n Bug Eyes asphyxiatin' out on a neural internexus fusin' asphyxiation an' innate juicy ... an' within 25 heroic seconds, masked gals descend from the ceilin' all cinematic & make with the Black Widow kickin' out.

    • Hey,
Which Travel crate do you use to travel with your dog?

  • I would watch the margins Uber takes out Kurt, in AU, restaurants act like places where people can order their food and pick it up, but the margins are so expensive most retailers or coffee/restaurants are shying away from them, (Uber takes out 30%) not to mention the swiping the food before delivery issue.

Obviously swiping a pet isn't an issue, but knocking off some of the dog treats,....perhaps?

    • It isn't Uber, it's Uship and yeah their fees are a consideration. However, I wouldn't be doing it for a living. Just a way to help pay for travel expenses and I'd probably pick trips based more on destinations than earnings.

  • Kurt, might be a good idea. My only concern would be you'd need to keep it small so you have total control.

Several years ago I used a service that came to your home 3 times a day and fed/played with your pets and let them out or walked them. The person who came to the house to sign me up was great. I was not told she would not be involved as they 'outsource' to 'locals'. It was not a cheap service and payment was in advance.

I came home after 2 weeks to find a house that smelled horrible - with dog food and poos all over the floor. Dogs had not been taken out - food had been dumped in large quantities - and 2 of 3 water bowls were empty. Never again! It was a month before my dogs were back to normal and over the two weeks of neglect.

Unless you have people you know very well this would not (in my opinion) be a business you could expand very much. But as a personal service might be good travel time.

When you are at a point in life where you can pick up and go with little notice I think you would find customers. A dog is always a good travel companion in my view. they listen well and never argue.

    • Sounds like you've never had Boxers. They listen when they want and always want to argue.
    • Seems I haven't been clear on how Uship works. It's a shipping site where people list things they want to be shipped and independent contractors bid on the jobs with the "lister" picking a service.

One of the "Transportation Needed" categories is for Animals, which has a sub category for Dogs. People want animals transported across the US for a variety of reasons, so they list a job offer on uShip.

And people like myself can scan the available jobs and make bids. If your bid is accepted, you get the job.

I wouldn't be setting up a business, I would be looking for pets that needed a ride to someplace in the Southern states in the winter and north in summer. Uship has already established the business.

It's just a way to do a little traveling while getting some travel expenses. Ill still work online. And as a former cab driver, I'm pretty sure I'll like these passengers a lot more.
