Just finished the latest Jack Reacher novel - "Blue Moon"

Has anyone else read it yet? If so - and if you've gone through Chapter 50 - I have a question for you.

    I'm just starting chapter 33.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

    Dan -

Chapter 50 - Reacher et al get into the computer room...there are TWO men in the room standing behind the table....the person they were LOOKING for and another described as about 5 yrs younger, geek type.....

Then we go into getting info and money transfer, etc from the the ONE guy they've been looking for. Then the 4 people who were with Reacher leave - he kills the computer geek....

....but what happened to the second geek in the room? I went back several times trying to find out but unless i'm missing it every time I don't see it.

Death by editor, yet his ghost remained.

    Death by editor.

That's all you got? Geez....Childs doesn't usually leave a live body just hanging around like that..

guess I'll have to kill him off in my own mind - can't leave any witnesses....

      There are two options:

Death by editor: my guess is he was simply fodder to convince the main geek to move the money. Why else plotwise was he there? Reacher kills him to convince the main guy that he's in serious trouble. It's possible his death crossed a moral line for Reacher (although that line is getting narrower, especially in this book) and the editor removed it and left a ghost. The book is full of decisions that, in my opinion, push Reacher from a Champion of Justice to Vigilante Serial Killer. The killing of the junior geek just to get the elder geek to do Reacher's bidding crossed Reacher's line. Thus editing him out, but doing a poor job of it. Obviously, this is purely conjecture; just trying to offer a logical possibility.

      Or...

It's a set up for a future book. He could be included in the group that left the room before Reacher. But this feels poorly executed. Thus, I think he was edited out and they did a poor job of it.

Dan - I agree - Reacher didn't seem to have an ethical line in this book. i think it's a definite 'oops' when it comes to the second man in the room - and probably many readers don't notice it.

No, it will never end...those silly authors just keep writing. BookBub emals cost me, too - several times a week I buy through that daily email. Good deals and great way to try new authors.

We have a great library and I can get kindle books there - but you have to wait till it's 'available' - and I'm not patient when it comes to books.

I buy a lot of books....
