And it'll be like Windows XP and Vista - unsupported.

  • A bit disappointing as I have a very reliable desktop I bought just at the time they were discontinuing sales of win7....oh well I'll use the win10 laptop for fancy stuff.

I have win10 on my lap - no problem with it. You might need a techie to work on it? (In my view a 'techie' is someone that - when you've done everything you know to do and nothing works - you drop off the computer and the techie makes it all better.)

    • I have Windows 7Pro, or have used it for the last 2 years, with all updates switched off Kay, so don't sweat updates being switched off.

Or the only issue to date is sometimes customizing files may not stick.

But it is a a good idea to have Norton, or whatever to remove temp, files as IE, does tend to build up a lot of rubbish when browsing.

  • I use my win 7 pro desktop for research, shopping, etc....it is pretty well protected (virus, etc) but I can use that to research sites that might lead to questionable links and keep my laptop for 'real work'...or in my case 'serious goofing off'.

  • I think at some point I have used almost every Windows version. Windows 10 has been my favorite and most reliable by far. I installed it when it was first released and in my opinion is much, much better than any of the earlier versions.

I am also using Office 365 which I love. I do a lot with writing documents, spreadsheets, tables, cheat sheets, flow charts and such. If I wasn't doing so much business online I may not care but I like having the best software that works. Nothing is perfect of course.

  • Arr, yes the Chrome browser is supported, and most software. Business packs may not though.

    I would hang onto it.

I used my w7p, for the last two years, full time, without any issues related to questionable emails and such.

Updates were also switched off from XP some time ago, and l have an old PC, with XP with no security updates for at least 5 years l think, and even with Norton that did get a Trojan, that look forever to remove but Norton finally outed it.

That was embedded in IE, (viruses like IE, or its temp, files folder, as they do with the OS restore points).

    • Aha, so finally looks like you are screwed unless you make sure that this laptop never goes online. Your ancient photoshop stuff must be preserved at all cost unless you finally succumb to paying for the latest stuff. What happens when your Win 7 laptop dies, are you going to look for a second hand one that can run it?

  • Damn, this hits me hard. I'm so used to Windows 7, but guess it's the right time to switch.

I know how those "laptop veterans" felt when the support ended for XP
  • Sc....d, no, no where near that. The OS, is 99.99% operational, unless l want to turn a file icon into a CD OS, image then it may take a few attempts, (not exactly, in trouble) and a minor issue considering what l got by leaving updates turned on on my other laptop.

You got the CS2 remark on par, true, and a case in point is l have saved myself over $1,200 so far by hanging onto the 15 year old CS2, instead of going for the cloud version, (the Adobe Suite option) in AU dollars.

I have tried the cloud one, (CS2 one) and certain key features are not there, that l use regularly for contrast and other aspects of image rectification.

What happens when it dies, use the money l saved and rinse and repeat!

  • Never happnin' to heels tho.

  • Win 10 is good enough, of course after you run a script to remove all garbage
